July 2024
It was a busy summer with two students joining us for 8-10 weeks along with Harry continuing his work with us as a summer UROP student. Mark Zoberi came to us from Wash U and worked with Aneesha on cancer studies while Angel Martinez-Perez joined us via the high school SEED program (CTSI) and studied GNE myopathy with Becky. All three presented fantastic posters in July and we wish them all the best moving forward!
July also saw us say farewell to Alejandro as he pursues additional research experience at Butler before appliying to graduate/professional school. Good luck with your new adventure Alejandro!
Finally, congrats to Savannah and Aneesha for putting out a nice review on KLF10 in Current Opinion in Supportive and Palliative Care. Check it out!

Congrats to Savannah on receiving a research award through the ICMH Cancer Rapid Pilot Funding mechanism and to Becky for receiving a Biomedical Research Grant through the Indiana CTSI!
We had a busy summer in the lab with our new PhD students plus a summer undergraduate student - Ava Concannon - who joined us via the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in the Biomedical Sciences (SUREBS) program (https://medicine.iu.edu/research/training-programs/biomedical-sciences).
Also happy to see that a collaborative paper (Blocking muscle wasting via deletion of the muscle-specific E3 ligase MuRF1 impedes pancreatic tumor growth) led by Dr. Andy Judge's team at U Florida is out in Communications Biology!

This academic year was a busy one with several Indiana Biomedical Gateway (IBMG) PhD students rotating through the lab. We are so happy that 2(!) of them decided to join us for their PhDs. Welcome to Savannah Epstein and Andrew Hennigan...fun times ahead!

It was a busy summer with several papers coming out including two collaborative papers with Dr. Margherita Milone, a nice study from Dr. Martin Fernandez-Zapico, as well as studies from students and fellows in the muscle recovery from sepsis space. Nice work all!

A collaborative paper (with Gina Razidlo, Martin Fernandez-Zapico, and others) spearheaded by first author Aneesha Dasgupta titled "Anti-cachectic regulator analysis reveals novel Perp-dependent anti-tumorigenic properties of 3-methyladenine in pancreatic cancer" is now online at JCI Insight. Congrats team!
