About the PI

Jason is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Physiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine (Indianapolis, IN). He received a B.A. in Political Science and Biology from Brown University (Providence, RI), and a Ph.D. in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA). Following postdoctoral fellowships at the Center for Genomic Regulation (Barcelona, Spain) and the University of Colorado-Boulder, Jason moved to Mayo Clinic in 2016, where he led a research group for 6+ years. In 2022, he transitioned his laboratory to the Indiana University School of Medicine. In addition to research, Jason is a passionate educator and advocate for diversity in STEM and is currently serving as the Vice Chair for Strategic Engagement in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Physiology. Past service includes roles as the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion for the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, co-leader of the NIH/Mayo Clinic Initiative for Maximizing Student Development (IMSD) and Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) programs, and Associate Program Director for the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Track at Mayo Clinic.

Outside of the lab, Jason enjoys spending time with family, hitting the trails (on foot and on wheels), exploring local eateries, getting creative in the kitchen, and climbing things.Â
