Welcome to the Doles lab

We are a basic/translational biomedical research lab studying skeletal muscle wasting, tissue regeneration, and stem cell biology

About Us

Our lab is based in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Physiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. We work to better understand how muscle stem cells interact with their surroundings to drive tissue regeneration. We are especially interested in how this process is corrupted in disease states or with advanced age. The lab uses a variety of tools to address these issues, including mouse modeling, in vitro and in vivo stem cell assays, physiological assessments, functional genomics, single-cell profiling and metabolomics.

We believe that science benefits from diverse perspectives and welcome those from all backgrounds regardless of race, ethnicity, ancestry, color, country of citizenship, socioeconomic status, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, veteran status, ability, or marital or parental status. We strive to maintain an equitable and inclusive environment where everyone feels empowered, safe, and free to show up as they are. We acknowledge opportunity gaps and encourage those from both traditional and non-traditional backgrounds to join us. We are all walking a unique life path and are excited to share, learn, and grow together.

We are grateful for funding support from the NIH (NIGMS, NIAMS, and NCI), the American Association for Cancer Research, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the Glenn Foundation for Medical Research, the Eagles Cancer Telethon, Regenerative Medicine Minnesota, the Mayo Clinic and Indiana University.
