Session 8
Deeper into the Face
Deeper into the Face
With a new strategy in hand, Safi, as some sort of giant telepathic cat, went off and scouted ahead. Just past the door there were two branches off to each side of the corridor. Turning right Safi made his way down a rough hewn tunnel that twisted and turned before finally ending around a bend that was gently lit by some phosphorescent fungi.
Fazanna, upon exploring the fungi, learned that it fed off of leached of defiler magic decided it was best to leave it alone until after the rest of the temple hd been explored.
Safi then made his way towards the left, beyond the door was a square room that had some snake symbol etched into the floor. Scattered inside the circle were various odd trinkets. When Fazanna cast detect magic she located a couple of vials of healing potions. Some others collected a few of the odd trinkets after quickly learning there was no punishment for entering the circle.
Making there way down the corridor to a set of double doors they came upon a large chamber. In a niche in the southern wall, an 8-foot tall, vaguely humanoid creature made of fused bones sat on a throne made of stone. Four statues, apparently carved of stone straight from the floor, stood around the chamber. Each statue appeared humanoid with snake-like scales wearing scarves of solidified wind. At the far left end of the chamber, across from the throne, was a great stone cauldron from which safi could hear whispers of gibberish.
Believing the eerie defiler magic feeding fungus might have something to do with the cauldron or throne they returned to gather some. Only to quickly learn that the glowing material had no efect on anything in the chamber.
When Safi entered the chamber to explore it, the statues seemed to conjure up wind and tried to push, or pull, him to the cauldron. He quickly exited and a new plan was hatched. Using some some improvised weapons they decided to attempt to destroy the statues from outside the chamber. They soon noticed that the vaguely humanoid skeleton had left his thrown and moved closer to them, but was still. They then attempted to use rope to lasso the statues in an attempt to bring the statues down but soon saw flechettes of bone tear through their rope.
They lured the creature into the corridor and surrounded him. The tactics worked well and after Shiv grappled with the creature it changed into a swirling mass of bone shards. This only briefly extended its unnatural life as they made short work of it.
Past the Storm Seat they came to another branching corridor. At either end were single urns placed on a pedestal. Using Comprehend Languages they were able to decipher the names of two unknown men. The group learned by making a simple offering they could receive small blessings from each.
Wide steps led down into what was once a grand chamber. Crackling fire burned from two braziers flanking the stairs. The flames bathed the room in an oddly inconstant light, throwing shadows across a floor covered in skeletal and mummified humanoid remains.
When they entered the dead began to rise and assault them. Falling back on their previous successful tactics, they attempted ot lure them ito a kill zone but soon learned that these creatures can pass through stone. They found themselves surrounded and in a tough fight but were able to overcome the challenge. They were badly hurt, but alive.
