While waiting in the safe house for Mahlanda and her teacher Marmara the wood and leather door of the simple home shattered open with a resounding crack. With a shout of 'Death to the Veiled Alliance!' half-giant and human guards forced their way in with bloodied weapons. The group had failed to hear the initial attack as the safe house was warded from sound entering or leaving. They easily dispatched the guards and the defiler that accompanied them.

Outside there were more patrols and the group began making their way out of the city while screams of the dying filled the air. They found a set of flaming footprints and followed them to a leather-clad mul laughing hysterically as he controlled a giant flaming elemental. After the mul killed Sartaj he taunted Mahalanda, "See how easy this is?" He asked. "Soon enough the True will have what we want and the entire Veiled Alliance will share your fate." Then with a mad laugh he tossed the teacher's body into a flmaing building. Mahlanda was thrown limply onto a pile of other bodies. 

The group later learned that Mahlanda was taken to a caravan to be sold as a slave in Urik.
