Session 26A
Tyrian Gambit
Tyrian Gambit
A group of heroes returned to Altaruk to find Mahlanda and Kalkorin waiting for them. They were unable to share the results of the battle with Obadias but Mahlanda gave Nyther a personal amulet.
Kalkorin asked Magnamus to find for him a rare spyglass if he could as Sortars Army was now working for Altaruk.
Mahlanda implored “ I have asked you here to once again seek your assistance in a matter that concerns the village.” She turned and pointed her finger out toward the northern wall, behind which they could just make out the top of an argosy – a large fortified caravan typically pulled by one or more massive plated lizards known as mekillot. She turned back to them, her hand resting on the hilt of her sword. “That argosy has recently arrived from Tyr, and no one who is working with it will reveal its final destination or its cargo. I cast a ritual to learn more, but it only gave me an unclear omen of danger for Altaruk. I fear what that argosy means for our town.”
The group met with Federoth and learned that he had contacts and information. There's a mystery surrounding an argosy, and it was about to depart soon. The argosy has two sets of crew members. The first group consists of Tyrian citizens, including the mekillot driver, the argosy master, and four hold guards. They stay close to the argosy and haven't ventured into Altaruk. It's likely they specialize in argosy operations and lease space to wealthy merchants. The other group comprises hired guards and scouts, many of whom are now in the village.
Federoth emphasizes the need to gather detailed information about this argosy. It's a trading vessel not currently engaged in trade with Altaruk, posing a potential threat to Mahlanda, Altaruk, and the city's merchant houses.
You have two options for gathering information about the argosy. First, they can track it, wait for the right moment, and either attack or infiltrate it as it leaves. Second, consider joining the crew since they've hired scouts from Altaruk, providing a potential opportunity. They must be cautious not to inspect the cargo while it's near Altaruk to avoid sparking a conflict with powerful figures.
They'll be provided with crodlus, though they may not be in prime condition, and they can rely on a network of trusted contacts along trade routes if they can't return with the information.
The group headed to the Four Bits where they found the caravan captain, Drotgor, a vain and muscled mul along with two guards, a red skinned lanky elf named Poros and a scowling human named Maeredes. Unfortunately they were no longer hiring and made a faux pas by suggesting they wager on a fight and Drotgor detests gamblers.
Deciding to learn more they fond out that a woman was seen outside the southern gate and a half-giant named Gaanon was practicing out back. Approaching the half-giant they were able to learn that he would gladly quit the caravan if they could find him a spot in the gladiatorial games at the Bloodsand Arena.
