While in no means official or public, the hours I put into carefully crafting these fictional characters and stories that only exist in mine and the heads of about four other people certainly have improved my storytelling and character design skills. I have been playing mostly D&D 5e for quite a while and have created countless characters, the best of which I've displayed below with short abstracts from newest to oldest. Recently I have also picked up Game Mastering for one-shots and a premade campaign and I'm also currently writing my own D&D 5e campaign set in Ancient Greece, with homebrewed NPCs, places and monsters inspired by greek mythology.
Half-Elf Cyborg, Rogue/Ranger (Assassin)
Lethea was created originally as a side character from Maevris' backstory (further below), but grew into an independent Player Character in an alternate universe setting. She grew up in a criminal organization as a sniper assassin until a mission cost her her lover Maevris' life and half of her limbs. She left to fulfill Maevris' dream of researching. When she dons her mask, she becomes Charon, a persona she created to hold and withstand the trauma of taking lives on a daily basis.
Lethea is smart and rational but also passionate and fiercly loyal to her loved ones. After two years of playing her, she has now hung her mask on the wall and dedicated her life to researching and teaching at the school, while trying her best to be a good mother to Vesper, an orphaned Tiefling girl whom she adopted together with her fiancé, Azure.
Yuan-Ti, Bard (College of Dance)
Feared by humans and ostracised by his superiorly evolved Yuan-Ti clan, Kaa ran away to the travelling circus 'Midnight Caravan' at young age, becoming friends with a handful of outcast kids that called the circus their home. When they were grown up and the circus passed into the island Obscuria, they decided to leave, led by Kaa's then boyfriend Rjukan. Afraid of losing the privilege and adoration by humans he had gained, Kaa refused to go with them, resulting in a hurtful breakup.
After trying to find footing in the city as an independent performer (and failing abysmally), the patron Beatrice took him under wing, and he flourished to be a top performer within a few years. Kaa is petty and vain, using his charms to get his way, creating a thick wall to protect the hurting and yearning child inside of him.
Drow, Monk (Way of the Cobalt Soul)
In the original version of Maevris and Lethea, Maevris was a drow who disdained his folk's brutal ways of living. Searching for enlightenment, he fled the Underdark and became a monk at the monastery of the Cobalt Soul, where he fell in love with Lethea. After a mission paralyzed her with no remedy, he set out to fulfill their dream of researching, always writing letters home for her to read. He is quiet, stern and collected, but his thirst for knowledge tends to get him into trouble sometimes.
Capfolk, Druid (Circle of Spores)
Reineyra was born from the ideas in my Visual Novel 'Secrets of Sakura Glade'. Originally named Hina, Nobu's terminally sick daughter was dying when he made a deal with a fey to save her. The fey brought her back from the dead, but took all memories of and about her as a price. Lost without a sense of belonging, self-named Reineyra set out to follow the call of adventure, searching for something that would fill the ice cold void inside her.
Strangely affined to necrotic magic, she sees beauty in every form of life, even in the undead and decaying. With every sunrise, she tries to illuminate the world with her undying love of life.
Fire Genasi, Paladin (Oath of Vengeance)
Ash was created in a random character one-shot, but I developed them past that in my own time. I animated their character backstory for a storytelling task in university (Video).
Fairy, Sorcerer (Lunar Magic)
Calysto, a fairy born in the Feywild, fell in love with a human soldier who stumbled into her hidden village. However, one day he disappeared and her village was attacked by Fomorian giants. She stood bravely to protect her people and was blessed by the White Well's lunar magic for her courage.
Assuming her soldier had been taken by the giants, she ventured into the Feydark to rescue him, only to find he had betrayed her. Broken-hearted, she was captured. Enslaved by the giants, she worked her way up until she was granted just enough freedom to slip away one day. Her flight led her through a fey crossing and dropped her in Faerûn, where she got the chance to start anew in a strange land.
Calysto is shaped by the whims of the feywild and the phases of the moon; irrational, short-tempered and cheeky, but able to wield the serene and ancient power of the moon. She also really likes sparkly and glowy things.
Sun Elf, Druid (Circle of the Land)
When he became king, Ivy's father received a prophecy that his daughter would kill him. When she was born, her mother couldn't bear to leave her to die. Smuggled out by her, Ivy grew up with her grandmother in a remote druid circle. Longing for her real family, she returned to the palace when she became an adult. There, she learned of her mother's death by her father's hand. Consumed by vengeance, she fulfilled the prophecy.
Air Genasi, Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline)
The child of a dragonborn and a genie, Chalzettony was dropped at the steps of a temple as an infant. The temple, worshipping Akadi, the mother of the wind, took this as a sign from her and raised the child as their own. In teenage years, she struggled to balance her innate magical powers and during a fight with her secret lover from an enemy temple, she lost control and caused him to fall into his death. Unable to face her family after this, she packed her things and left.
