Snowball is a 3D animated short I worked on during my second semester. It tells a simple but sweet story: in a snowy landscape, a fox and a rabbit cross paths—not to chase each other, but to play in the snow. The fox takes a dramatic leap to catch the rabbit, only to land headfirst in a snowbank. After shaking off the snow, the two pause to watch snowflakes fall. The camera then pulls out to reveal the scene played inside a snow globe, sitting on the wooden top of a cozy fireplace. The animation uses a low-poly style to give it a storybook-like charm.
Concept Development & Storyboarding
I pitched the concept and created the first storyboard, mapping out the tone and key moments. Later, I worked on the cinematic breakdown.
Asset Creation & Modeling
I created most of the environmental assets, like trees, rocks, grass, the snow globe, the fireplace, and the room around it. I also took on finalizing the fox and rabbit models to make sure they were ready for animation.
Animation & Editing
I built and animated the fireplace scene and did some final touches on the animations and keyframes for the snow globe scene. Once all the animation rendering was done, I cut and edited the short in DaVinci Resolve.
This project taught me so much about animation and 3D asset creation, from the base modeling to materials and rigging. We had to work fast and didn’t manage to include sound, but I’m still really proud of how the story turned out—especially the ending reveal of the snow globe. If I ever revisit Snowball, I’d love to explore adding sound.
