Docsmith is a private, on-device PDF workbench: edit PDF text, scan, sign, OCR, and 20+ tools, all on your iPhone. Below are answers to common questions. Still stuck? Email galtuh@gmail.com and we'll help.
Getting started
Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up and no login. Open the app and start working.
Where are my files stored? Only on your device, in Docsmith's private storage and wherever you choose to save the results (for example, the Files app). Docsmith never uploads your documents.
Is Docsmith free? Reading and marking up are always free. Editing PDF text, signing and scanning are free every day within a daily allowance, and each core tool (merge, split, compress, convert and more) gives you one free run per day. Docsmith Pro removes all limits and unlocks the Pro tools.
Editing PDF text
How do I edit the text in a PDF? Open the document, tap the Edit line tool in the markup bar, then tap the line you want to change and retype it. Docsmith matches the original font, size and colour, and the text stays selectable and searchable.
Can I edit a whole paragraph? Yes. Tap a line and choose Edit whole paragraph to rewrite it; the lines reflow inside the same block. If a change cannot be made safely, Docsmith tells you and changes nothing.
Does it work with scanned documents? A scan is an image with no text layer. Run Make searchable (OCR) first to add a text layer, then you can search and select the recognised text.
Scanning and OCR
How do I scan paper? Use the scan action to capture pages with the camera; Docsmith turns them into a clean PDF.
How do I make a scan searchable? Open the scan and run Make searchable. On-device OCR adds a searchable text layer. Nothing is uploaded. OCR is a Pro feature.
Signing and forms
How do I sign a document? Use Sign to draw, type or photograph your signature, then place it on the page. Your signature is stored only in your Keychain and never leaves your device.
How do I fill in a form? Tap form fields to fill them, or add text with the text tool. Flatten the document when you are done so the entries become part of the page.
Tools
What tools are included? Merge, split, page numbers, Bates numbering, compress, PDF to images, extract text, extract images, compare two PDFs, redact, watermark, set or remove password, make searchable (OCR), and batch across many files.
What is free vs Pro? Each core tool gives one free run per day. OCR, batch, redaction, passwords, watermarks, Bates numbering, flattened copies, and the shapes and stamps annotation kit are Pro. Pro also removes the daily limits and gives unlimited text editing, signing and scanning.
Subscription and purchases
What does Docsmith Pro cost? Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription. The yearly plan starts with a 3-day free trial. Exact prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy.
How do I restore a purchase? On a new device or after reinstalling, open the Pro screen (or Settings, Docsmith Pro) and tap Restore.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription? Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open the Settings app, your name, Subscriptions, or in the App Store tap your photo, Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Pro until the current period ends.
How do refunds work? All purchases are handled by Apple. Refund requests go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Privacy and security
Does Docsmith send my files anywhere? No. Everything happens on your device. Files leave only when you share or save them through the standard iOS share sheet.
Can I lock the app? Yes, turn on Lock with Face ID in Settings, Privacy.
Does Docsmith use the cloud? No. There is no cloud sync and no account.
Languages and accessibility
What languages are supported? Docsmith is available in 40 languages. You can change it in Settings, Language.
Is it accessible? Docsmith supports Dynamic Type, VoiceOver, and the system appearance and accent options in Settings.
Managing your data
How do I delete my data? Delete individual documents inside the app, clear the version history in Settings, Storage, or remove the app from your device to erase all Docsmith data at once.
