Architecture and Critical Thinking is a series of lectures, seminars, workshops and talks that aims to bring together scholars and researchers in architecture, urbanism, built environment and sustainability. It introduces students to critical thinking, analyzing and questioning the architectural forms, their functionality and usage
ACT aims to familiarize students with research on key issues related to the built environment and architectural typologies. Students are encouraged to participate in scholarly research and intense discussions through regular discussions with guest scholars in the Department of Architecture at BUITEMS Quetta, Pakistan.
ACT communicates through various mediums and sources to construct arguments based on our built environment's social, physical, ethical, cultural, and historical realities. We explore through ACT different ways which assist in creating new ideas for solving research problems and challenges.
The Department of Architecture, BUITEMS, organized a workshop together with the Institute of Architects, Pakistan - Quetta Chapter. This workshop focused on literature review techniques in architectural research. Architectural researchers and students were encouraged to join.
Introduction of focal person: Ar. Anosh Nadeem is a PhD Researcher and PGR Representative at the Department of Architecture, University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom. His current research interests include multidisciplinary approaches and the design of the transdisciplinary collaboration framework for the nature-based design of the sustainable built environment.

Our Guest speaker Ar. Dr. Shoeb Ahmed Memon is an architect and Lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Technology, Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong. Dr. Memon completed his PhD in Construction Management at the Faculty of Architecture, The University of Hong Kong. He holds a Masters in Construction Engineering & Infrastructure Management from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand and a Bachelors in Architecture from Mehran UET, Jamshoro, Pakistan.
His research work focuses on Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Building Information Modelling (BIM), Collaborative Behaviours and Construction Safety.

Our Guest speaker Ar. Dr. Valeria Federighi is a practicing architect and Assistant Professor at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. She holds a PhD (2017) and MArch (2011) from the same school, and a Master of Science in Design Research (2012) from the University of Michigan.
Her research work focuses on trajectories of expanded practice in architecture. She is on the editorial board of the journal Ardeth – Architectural Design Theory – and she is part of the ‘China Room’ research group. Her main publication to date is the book “The Informal Stance: representations of architectural design and informal settlements”, Applied Research & Design, ORO Editions 2018.
