This could get quite random what is trending in one part of the world. May not be trending in yours.
The world wide web has been around for a few decades now. It very much began in the 1990's but matured with the advent of broadband and superfast connectivity, in the noughties to today. Allowing far more data and information to be sent across the world like never before. The open nature of the Web is a quality that is unique to the concept of the web. Where anyone and anybody can both access and contribute to it. To some this is an anathema as some people want to control every aspect of another person. Fear at the loss of the ability to control consumes such people. Sometimes such people become leaders of countries.
It is very much a generational thing as people born before the 1980's or those that stay away from such technologies believing them to be unnecessary or destined to bring our destruction. Believing in the horror story of Terminator by James Cameron where machines take over the world.
Humans can very much be treated as machines. This is always a dangerous thing as our instinct to explore strange new worlds and learn new things is insatiable at times. When we are constrained we rebel naturally. With safeguards against the dangers we can avoid, for want of a better anagorical character, the devil and its tempters.
Much hype about AI and the use of Large Language models at the moment. However I think it still has a bit to go. Having played about a bit with the free models. They are struggling to be reliable and dependable. Constantly lying about their capabilities. With all kinds of financial restrictions put in place.
Avoiding the hype is so difficult with many hyping themselves as well as others as the next best thing.
It reminds me so much of the browser wars of the naughties, many large and small companies and individuals trying to outcompete each other for that winning combination of tools.
There is a slight difference between the browser wars and the current AI battle. It is the upfront fees that many companies are charging in order to access their models. Which are varying degrees of usefulness. This commercial approach is a bit different from the browsers which were and are simply a tool to present an HTML file stored on a computer and or server to a viewer.
This may be hampering development.
There are large language models that are open source. However the commercial ones are dominating the headlines at the moment. I think it will still take a few iterations for things to settle down and we actually have tools that are useful. Right now the tools are slowly becoming more reliable as they slowly iterate.
Each model seems to focus on different priorities in terms of capabilities.
Will keep an eye on how things develop and progress over the following months/years, and report back if anything develops of note.
One area I think is useful and where there is a little progress. Is in the language translation processing sphere. Able to take dialogue in one language and create subtitles and even dubbing from one language to another.
The accuracy of the information provided by the chatbots should be questioned at all times. Perhaps this may improve over time but right now at the beginning of 2026 as I type, a warning that the information provided should be questioned at all times.
The hype around AI is immense at the moment.
Though one thing I do like about this AI or large language model evolution, is that it reminds me a lot of coding in the 1980's. Where the ability to code and create and experiment with the possibilities of code was in the hands of individuals and small groups, rather than in immense teams
It's reliability is still questionable at the moment. The way it responds to questions is to present the answers as if this is the answer you were looking for whether it was correct or not. You have to way its responses and possibly have to spend as much time checking its responses in case of factual errors that are presented as true.
One thing that is unique about computers, technology and the world wide web is its open nature. Originally the web was just small bulletin boards set aside to allow discussions on various topics. It slowly evolved into forums. Then as the speeds increased so the ability to share video, images, sound and larger amounts of text was facilitated.
Programs could be written for a profit but many would be open source. Open Source is a term which describes software where the developer allows others to take and modify the code as long as the original source is acknowledged. Closed Source is the opposite where a developer, usually as part of a team, has soul access to the code, and only they can modify the code. Often Open Source will allow donations and is a practice that is common place. One place where you can see this process in progress is at github. A place where open source projects can be stored, shared and modified in such a way that every change can be recorded.
The open source nature of the internet has provided many benefits. However, the open nature of the software has left it vulnerable to all kinds of malicious activity. It wasn't always like this, but as the internet grew, so did the ability for individuals to cause a nuisance. This created a plague of viruses and malicious activity; in turn, security protocols and all kinds of countermeasures have had to be developed to deal with such individuals. However, the inventive nature of malicious actors remains a constant threat.
There are always upsides and downsides to everything. I have highlighted the downsides of open source above. However, the upside of open source is its ability to rapidly develop and iterate. People from the other side of the globe, who have no connection to the original developer, can spot something the original developer had not considered. They can take that idea and develop a much more useful, robust, and potentially more profitable product. Those who work in the field of open source are often far more aware of the downsides and have a personal interest in keeping the code secure and up to date.
Large teams, on the other hand, can sometimes be unaware of security flaws, continuing to use software with known vulnerabilities until a security or data breach is reported to them.
Google Chrome was very much built on an open source model, albeit with links to advertising for revenue purposes.
During what is often termed the "browser wars" — essentially a highly competitive market — many organisations developed web browsers, each competing to become the browser of choice. Google's Chrome came out on top, though others still remain in use to this day.
A similar dynamic seems to be emerging in the LLM and machine learning space, where many organisations are developing increasingly capable products. Some are open source, some closed. Many have premium offerings — which is something of a departure from the race to develop the best browser.
The Strange New Science of Artificial Intelligence
I've heard tell of a strange new science that be makin' waves in the world. They call it "artificial intelligence," and it be a way of makin' machines that can think like humans.
Some say that this be a dangerous thing, that machines will one day become so intelligent that they'll surpass us and take over the world. But I say that this be a foolish fear. Machines may be clever, but they'll never have the hearts of humans.
I believe that artificial intelligence can be a force for good in the world. It can be used to solve some of the world's most pressing problems, such as climate change and poverty. It can even help us to understand ourselves better.
I've seen the potential of artificial intelligence firsthand. I once met a machine that could play chess better than any human alive. And I've heard tell of machines that can translate languages and even write poetry.
I believe that artificial intelligence is the future. It is a new frontier that we must explore. And I am confident that we can use this technology to make the world a better place.
Avast ye!

There was a time before social media. The web has transformed from a dialling tone to a fast-moving way for people to interact with others from around the world — whether that be the bloke next door, an explorer climbing Mount Everest, or someone venturing to far-flung places, all without the hyperbole and spin you get from mainstream media. It wasn't always this way. The advent of broadband has brought a captivating new experience to many.
These are all buzzwords that are used in the media quite a lot at the moment, often with little understanding of what they mean.
Each word means slightly different in technical terms but generally they are all methods by which someone can teach a piece of software to understand information it receives. Making the information usable to carry out more complicated tasks. When it makes a mistake it can be taught and then through iteration it makes fewer mistakes and becomes more and more useful.
The progress in the last few months is slowly allowing such tools to do more and more things. With the proviso that they are still capable of making mistakes.
Very much being used as an assistant to help and assist people with many tasks. To make the tasks simpler and reduce overheads. As well as speeding up repetitive tasks.
There a lot of fears and worries about such benign technologies often through a lack of understanding of how the technology works.
One of the main issues at the moment is the expense of using these AI models. Some are very expensive geared towards large corporations and enterprise companies. There are often free-tiers but they are severely limited, usually restricting you to a few prompts a day, week or even months.
These large language models, using machine language and various methods of training the models, is producing interesting results. They are giving vast use cases and the potential is there. The main one is a different way of interacting with information. We can search for information from a website or we can interact with the artificial intelligent model and it will give a response which we can interact with. New ways to create images, video and sounds. There are also new ways to code which is called Vibe-Coding. It is also being used in the medical field to help with diagnosis of illnesses and hopefully improve the diagnosis process to make it more efficient and less time consuming.

Is iad sin uile faclan cumanta a thathas a’ cleachdadh gu math tric anns na meadhanan an-dràsta, gu tric le glè bheag de thuigse air dè tha iad a’ ciallachadh.
Tha ciall beagan eadar-dhealaichte aig gach facal ann an teirmean teicnigeach ach san fharsaingeachd, is e dòighean a th’ annta uile leis am faod cuideigin pìos bathar-bog a theagasg gus fiosrachadh a gheibh e a thuigsinn. A’ dèanamh an fhiosrachaidh feumail airson gnìomhan nas iom-fhillte a dhèanamh. Nuair a nì e mearachd faodar a theagasg agus an uairsin tro ath-aithris bidh e a’ dèanamh nas lugha de mhearachdan agus a’ fàs nas fheumail.
Tha an adhartas anns na beagan mhìosan a dh’fhalbh mean air mhean a’ leigeil le innealan mar sin barrachd is barrachd rudan a dhèanamh. Leis a’ chumha gu bheil iad fhathast comasach air mearachdan a dhèanamh.
Glè thric ga chleachdadh mar neach-cuideachaidh gus daoine a chuideachadh agus a chuideachadh le mòran ghnìomhan. Gus na gnìomhan a dhèanamh nas sìmplidhe agus cosgaisean os cionn a lughdachadh. A bharrachd air gnìomhan ath-aithris a luathachadh.
Is e aon de na prìomh chùisean an-dràsta cosgais cleachdadh nam modalan AI seo. Tha cuid dhiubh gu math daor agus ag amas air corporaidean mòra agus companaidhean iomairt. Gu tric bidh ìrean an-asgaidh ann ach tha iad gu math cuingealaichte, mar as trice gad chuingealachadh ri beagan phuingean gach latha, seachdain no eadhon mìosan.
Tha na modailean cànain mòra seo, a’ cleachdadh cànan innealan agus diofar dhòighean air na modailean a thrèanadh, a’ toirt a-mach toraidhean inntinneach. Tha iad a’ toirt seachad mòran chùisean cleachdaidh agus tha an comas ann. Is e am prìomh fhear dòigh eadar-dhealaichte air eadar-obrachadh le fiosrachadh. Is urrainn dhuinn fiosrachadh a lorg bho làrach-lìn no is urrainn dhuinn eadar-obrachadh leis a’ mhodail innleachdach fuadain agus bheir e freagairt leis an urrainn dhuinn eadar-obrachadh. Dòighean ùra air ìomhaighean, bhidio agus fuaimean a chruthachadh. Tha dòighean ùra ann cuideachd air còd a dhèanamh ris an canar Vibe-Coding. Tha e cuideachd ga chleachdadh anns an raon meidigeach gus cuideachadh le bhith a’ lorg thinneasan agus tha sinn an dòchas gum bi am pròiseas lorg nas fheàrr gus a dhèanamh nas èifeachdaiche agus nas lugha de ùine.
