This a subject that is always evolving. Informed through science but a precision required to take the innovations that science can bring and make it useful for the everyday,
It very much builds on top of previous generations and transformed the lives of many of us and continues to do so today.
Engineering uses science to create solutions. Often in ways we don't expect. We often look at how previous engineers solved a problem and work out how to do it better, more economically or by using new science.
Scotland has been a place for science, engineering and innovation for centuries. Despite its rugged terrain, low birth rate and low population density it has and continues to contribute to science and engineering. Without the resources of the bigger countries it continues to innovate. The low tolerance for risk seems to be a constraining factor. With fewer resources the reduced ability to take risks means businesses often need to seek resources elsewhere in order to fully realise their ambitions.
