This virtual conference boasted Dr David Lewis as the keynote speaker as he addressed "PoCUS Beyond the FAST exam". Students and physicians across the country attended and were able to participate in insightful discussions concerning PoCUS expansion, involvement and education at the medical school level.

An Extraordinary Donation from the SJRH Emergency Dept.

Thanks to the phenomenal generosity of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Saint John Regional Hospital, the DMNB PoCUS club received an electronic simulated patient to further expand student learning!

This contribution allows students real time comparisons of ultrasound images and animated anatomy to broaden their Point of Care Ultrasound skills.

Thank you to the department and staff!

PoCUS Outreach

The DMNB PoCUS club were overjoyed to be given the chance this month to meet some bright young ladies who were excited to learn about the human body, first aid and ultrasound! They were able to see the Butterfly probes in action with the help of DMNB student volunteers.

Review from Life in the Fast Lane

As long time fans and frequent users of the resources on Life in the Fast Lane (LITFL), the DMNB PoCUS Club was honoured to be given some positive feedback in their most recent website review of us. Given the quality and scope of their incredible resources we were thankful for their recognition. LITFL's approach to making high quality resources available to anyone with an internet connection demonstrates the attitude towards education which inspired our initial PoCUS poster. We appreciate their support and look forward to any future collaborations with them.

Seguin Canadian PoCUS Education Conference

Recently, club members were happy to attend the first ever Seguin Canadian PoCUS Education Conference. The virtual conference was attended by students and physicians from across Canada to discuss the state of PoCUS education at different medical schools across Canada. From this opportunity club members gained a number of useful insights and suggestions. We're excited to continue to collaborate on the advancement of PoCUS education across Canada with these new connections.

Launch of Lending Library

Since the creation of the DMNB PoCUS club in 2019, our goal has been to increase exposure of medical students to time with PoCUS devices in-hand. The launch of the lending library of Butterfly iQ probes is a major step in advancing this goal and marks an achievement that the club might not have thought possible two years ago.

The club would like to sincerely thank the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation for allowing this project to be possible. We'd also like to once again thank Dr. David Lewis for guiding us through all aspects of this process.

We are very excited to continue to see where the efforts of our group can go!

Club wins PoCUS Award

At this year's Launch Ceremony for the 2021 Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick graduates the DMNB PoCUS Club received an award for our "Novice Guide to Point of Care Ultrasound" poster project. The Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound (ECCU) Award in Emergency Medicine Innovation was accepted by Pat Price and Ilya Abelev on behalf on the club. This award was generously created by Dr. David Lewis and Dr. Paul Atkinson and was designed to "encourage, recognize, and inspire innovation in research, emergency medical education and academic initiatives for all aspects related to Emergency Medicine and Critical Care, with a preference to innovations that promote the use of Point of Care Ultrasound (PoCUS)."

The club was honoured to receive this award and thanks Dr. Lewis and Dr. Atkinson for continuously supporting our efforts.
