The song At My Last Breath is a ballad track about someone who's about to die because it implies that someone is at his/her dying days before passing away. The tempo is set at 88 BPM while the key signature is set at A major with a key change to E major in the chorus. The slow tempo, key signature and lyrical content reflect the theme of the song which is about losing someone.
The song is set in a major key because the sad lyrics will contrast with a happy and uplifting tone of the melodies. It is a pop and R&B ballad that will be suited for my target demographic due to its happy tones but deep and meaningful lyrics. This is the way I would present my idea to the record label. We can advertise this song in the hopes that a listener who feels torn about the death of someone they know, either a family member or a friend, might hear a preview of it and connect with the idea.

Lyrics:
Verse one:
Riding across the street
With the lights on
I’m not so far from home
As I race through this road
Ended up going fast
With little to no attention
Where I’m going to
By now, I feel this fear
Pre-chorus:
I lost control of everything
That is lingering on my mind
Soon as I weaken myself
So will be my shattered heart
Chorus:
I keep having thoughts
About where I’ve been
And if I take the fall
Would I keep holding on?
It’s at my last breath
That I have the last word
So I won’t be alive
My long-lasted hope is gone
Verse two:
Took me by surprise
When I hit my head
Been suffering from this tragedy
That’s unable to erase itself
Been asleep in bed
Within a few weeks
I don’t know if I
Can prosper any longer
[Repeat pre-chorus]
[Repeat chorus]
Bridge:
Just in case I don’t
Find my way back into life
I’ll forever close my eyes
And let it slip away
If my heart and brain
Are rapidly fading in the dark
Remember that I’ll be up there
Before I return
[Repeat chorus till fade]
The inspiration for At My Last Breath came to my senses after my two other songs, Perils of Love and Give Me Time to Live my Life, were finished. This song had inspired a bike accident six years ago because I was at a special school doing some orientation lessons with the other disabled kids. All of a sudden, I lost control of my balance and my head cracked onto the right-hand side. Mum had to take me to a hospital after a nasty fall down and it's something I had been experiencing tragically over the last couple of years because I'm never going biking with my sunglasses and helmet again, let alone going on a bike due to my cerebral palsy.
In the first verse, the narrator was riding across the street on her bike because everything seemed great for starters. However, in the last few lines, it has been rumoured that she's about to lose control of the bike and fall off due to not handling it properly, suffering a concussion in the process. ("Ended up going fast/With little to no attention/Where I'm going to/By now, I feel this fear.")
In the pre-chorus, the narrator proclaimed that she is damaging herself after that near-tragic event because it haunted her as time went on. The reason why is that it implies on the final two lines of the song, commenting that if her mind is broken, her body will break too, building up to the song's chorus. ("I lost control of everything/That's lingering on my mind/Soon as I weaken myself/So will be my shattered heart.")
In the chorus of the song, it is said that the narrator is close to dying because of a near-fatal injury she had experienced in her life. Coupled with a time-lapsed rhetorical question about her taking a risk in the future ("If I take the fall/Would I keep holding on?") to a tearjerking metaphor that will beg the narrator to not pass away ("It's at my last breath/That I have the last word/So I won't be alive/My long-lasting hope is gone"), it has a powerful message into the track because the listeners would want to hear what's going on in the afterlife when either person will stay alive will come out strong or stay dead and be buried at a cemetery where he or she will be fondly remembered by all.
In the second verse, it depicts that the narrator has been hit in the head after she fell off her bike and is trying to forget the accident never happened. ("Been suffering from this tragedy/That's unable to erase itself.") The reason for that is because she is about to erase it from her memory, but is unable to after this tragic accident had occurred, thus ending up in a hospital during a span of a few weeks. ("Been asleep in bed/Within a few weeks/I don't know if I/Can prosper any longer.")
In the bridge, the narrator explains that if she doesn't stay alive after the accident, she would die. This is further elaborated in the bridge section because, amid the blackout, the narrator complained that she is already in the hospital and is waiting for the moment if she's going to live or not. ("Just in case I don't/Find my way back into life/I'll forever close my eyes/And let it slip away.") She said that if her body and mind are failing instantly, she would be put to sleep and end up going to Heaven due to her stating the obvious that she will make it back to Earth one day. ("If my heart and brain/Are rapidly fading in the dark/Remember that I'll be up there/Before I return.")
The next song Froze Up From Being Selfish is about a person who's blaming herself after she's been bad because she can't stop herself from being a naughty person, with her freezing up as a metaphor for her stubbornness. The song's tempo is set at 152 BPM in a 4/4 bar measure whereas its key signature is at F-sharp minor.
The song Froze Up From Being Selfish has a rapid-fire tempo, a darker minor key and abrasive lyrics about being angry. The way I would present it to my target audience and record label is to promote the song to teens who can control their anger management when they grow up over time. I want to advertise it through my social media pages because every teenager will use a social networking app of some kind, eventually pre-ordering the song when they see a promotion of this track.
Intro/break: C#, Bm, F#m, E
Verse: F#m7/9, E (x3), Dmaj7, Db7
Pre-chorus: A, E, F#m, C# (x2)
Chorus: F#m7, E, Dmaj7 (Bm7 on bass), F#m
Bridge: Bsus2, A, F#m, Db7, Bsus4, D, F#m7 (x2), Db7

Verse one:
I’ve been through a whole lot of trouble
Now I’m sealed in a giant bubble
I continue to see red, tell them you’re dead
Everything’s been torn to shred
It’s so hard with this agitation
Kicking and screaming, yelling I hate you
I shouldn’t have said those words
Let alone the courtesy to flip the bird
Pre-chorus:
I’m not trying to make you sad
All I wanna do is make you feel glad
And even when you’re ill, I’ll be here for you
But sometimes, my mind of its own won’t tell me what to do
Chorus:
I’m stuck up from being bratty
Why couldn’t I take a breath?
I must find a clue
Before I take the wrong way so well
I’m froze up from being selfish
Why didn’t I listen to myself?
I’ll search for a solution
Before the damage is done to hell
Verse two:
I’ve blown up one too many times
So I need a time out
Can’t control my emotions, put bars into motion
Everyone is having those commotions
Telling me I need to relax
But my heart isn’t on the right track
I’ve been popping off the top
In a disasterous way, so I have to stop
[repeat pre-chorus]
[repeat chorus]
Bridge:
What if I pretend to act my age?
I want to be normal without the rage
It won’t make any difference to who I am
I gotta profess like I give a damn
I’ve been spending years and years
Fighting these tears and those cheers
For once, I want that little girl smile
But it’s gonna take more than putting out the fire
[repeat chorus]
The inspiration for this song is a personal one because I started acting up like a spoiled child thinking about what I can do and what I can't do some of the time. Additionally, on a few occasions, I would throw a meltdown, cuss something out and scream at the top of my lungs before stopping. Froze Up From Being Selfish is a mature version of one of my other tracks from my sophomore album because it explores further into those unfair emotions that the person had caused his/her entire life; being selfish is one of them.
In verse one, we see that someone is being apologetic towards her because she keeps getting angrier and infuriating by the moment she throws a tantrum. There's one part of the lyrics where she sees the colour red because it represents rage in the circle of emotions and she tries her best to control her anger, especially when she has one of her meltdowns. ("I've been through a whole lot of trouble/Now I'm sealed in a giant bubble/I continue to see red, tell them you're dead/Everything's been torn to shreds.") In another set of words, the last line stated that she hadn't given the bird because it is a slang term for being given the middle finger, which she couldn't handle. ("It's so hard with this agitation/kicking and screaming, yelling I hate you/I shouldn't have said these words/Let alone the courtesy to flip the bird.")
In the pre-chorus, the person is doing whatever she can to make someone else feel happy. However, her brain has a mind of its own on some occasions implying that if she makes one mistake on another person, he/she will feel sad because of her ongoing breaking point. ("I'm not trying to make you sad/All I want to do is make you feel glad/And even when you're ill, I'll be here for you/But sometimes, my mind of its own won't tell me what to do.")
The song's chorus, it's riddled with warning shots upon the person because if she gets angry some more, she will see a negative outcome if she continues throwing those hissy fits. For example, the first line "stuck up from being bratty" and the fifth line "froze up from being selfish" express her unfair emotions in terms of being spoiled and acting stubborn because they follow up with a person searching for something that will help calm her down in a grown-up kind of way. ("I'm stuck up from being bratty/Why couldn't I take a breath?/I must find a clue/Before I take the wrong way so well/I froze up from being selfish/Why didn't I listen to myself?/I'll search for a solution/Before damage is done to hell.")
In the second verse, the person needs to prevent herself from her erratic behaviour because she has to think of a way to deal with a situation positively rather than continue making the same mistakes. In one example, the people are concerned with her bratty ways while that person in the song needs to take a break to lower her anger levels i.e. a time-out. ("I've blown up one too many times/So I need myself a time out/Can't control my emotions, put bars into motions/Everyone is having those commotions.") In the last few lines of the verse, the person has to come up with some techniques because she needs to stop herself from blowing her lid even further and carry it on from there. ("Telling me I need to relax/But my heart isn't on the right track/I've been popping off the top/in a disastrous way, so I have to stop.")
In the song's bridge, the person is doing her best by turning herself around and not going onward and upward by being a destructive woman. This is cemented further because she thinks of different ways to prevent being violent at one another whether it's at a person or something that ticked her off, to begin with. Even when she starts acting her age and isn't bothered about something, it won't make any changes to her lifestyle as it is likely for those tantrums to continue if she doesn't get her way. ("What if I pretend to act my age?/I want to be normal without the rage/It won't make no difference to who I am/I gotta profess like I give a damn/I've been spending years and years/Fighting these tears and those cheers/For once, I want that little girl smile/But it's gonna take more than putting out the fire.")
The next song Happy is a midtempo hip-hop song with self-empowerment lyrics because it is written from a second person perspective with some elements of a first-person perspective. The song is set at 106 BPM with 4/4 and 6/8 bar measures and the key signature is in G major.
Happy is a hip-hop song that mixes uplifting melodies and lyrical content about building your self-esteem through happiness. Its major key signature, inspirational messages about happiness and doo-wop elements in the chorus will attract the target audience and convince the record label to promote the song.
Chords:
Verse: Dsus4, C, Bm7, D, E
Chorus: Cmaj9, Bm, Cmaj9, Bm, Gmaj7, Emaj9, D
Lyrics:
Verse one:
Are you being lonely and bored?
With everything that you're falling to the floor?
You're this close to getting the door
When people think you're mean to the core
Well, at least that's what they said
So what's the problem with today?
Have you read your own life story?
Lately, the weather's getting stormy
You feel like you're ready for tears
Because the worst thing happens here
At this moment, you need a bit of sunshine
To clear your head because your future's bright
As ever, no matter what the bozos say
But it's their opinion anyway
Happiness will find a way
Because you will forever seize the day
Chorus:
All of this makes me feel happy
So go on, sing a song, ol' chappy
With your friends and your grandpappy
And pretty soon, you'll be happy
Like me, I'm happy
Oh, so happy
I'm happy that I can dance again
So happy
Verse two:
Is that supposed to be true?
Have all your days been oh so blue
Is it impossible finding the perfect you?
Mate, this isn't your curfew
You gotta get back in the game
Pretend in your mind everything's okay
Not all day could you be real happy
Who knows? You can always catch me
On the stereo, on the TV
In the papers, you should agree
That life isn't always precious
If you had a lousy day, bless us
And your lonely hearts in the club
You stepped into the newest hub
Filled with joy and harmony
I wrote this track down, my honey
I live on a whole new planet
Where all the people can have it
In this utopian life of mine, like bread and butter
For you see, it's all about being in technicolour
[repeat chorus]
Verse three:
Now where is that smile
The type that puts it on your face for a while
The one that stretches like the River Nile
Hell, you can keep grinning for many miles
Just don't get so many wrinkles
With your teeth, they're about to twinkle
Whenever you look at the mirror
And hold on to your memories, dear
If that's the case, get hold of the good times
Don't let yourself down in the grandiose life
That is yours, you need to talk about
What makes you happy inside and out
Those words can turn you into poems
Take you many places you can roam
You own this show all the time in the world
Now, go out there and live your dream, for the world
[repeat chorus]
The idea behind the song is I wanted to create an anthem that will depart from my side and write down these lyrics and chord arrangements from a second-person perspective. Case in point: being happy. Becoming happy tells me what everyone's doing right now because not somebody feels sad all the time and a smiley anthem calls for the hard times that a person is going through.
In all of the three verses, each one is told from a second-person perspective with a mixture of a first-person perspective. The reason why is because I want to give them a message to the listeners explaining what needs to make them feel good.
For example, the first verse has a couple of lines that address the audience implying that they feel down due to the difficulties of finding a place that will make a person smile. ("So what's the problem with today?/Have you read your own life story?/Lately the weather's getting stormy/You feel like you're ready for tears/Because the worst thing happens here.") At one point, the last few lines are directed to the listener because the song is telling you the person is depressed and needs to be happy when in reality, some other people can diss you for something, especially if it's in a sad emotion that will make things hard to emote and communicate. Through the trauma, please go and search for something that makes you happy rather than being stuck in a depressing mood all day long because no matter what they think of you, you need to break the day up and get today over with. ("At this moment, you need a bit of sunshine/To clear your head because your future's bright/As ever, no matter what the bozos say/But it's their opinion anywayHappiness will find a way/Because you will forever seize the day.")
The second verse, again, gives its direct address to the listener and this time around, the verse feels more of a therapy session than just the song itself alone due to its rhetorical questions and other language devices like metaphors and similes. Halfway through the next verse, a first-person perspective comes into play because what I am referring to is somebody who the person is listening to and how he/she can get to said person. ("Who knows? You can always catch me/On the stereo, on the TV/In the papers, you should agree.") Amongst the second-person and first-person mix, it also includes a shout-out to the album title at the end ("I live in a whole new planet/Where all the people can have it/In this utopian life of mine, like bread and butter/For you see, it's all about being in technicolour.")
In the third verse, as it is with the second verse, it continues from the psychotherapy side of things because someone will be asking you about where your smile is, even a grin. It also features a metaphor and simile together, giving it direct comparison to a smile and something else, while doing something similar to that strategy. ("Now where is that smile/The type that puts it on your face for a while/The one that stretches like the River Nile/Hell, you can keep grinning for many miles/Just don't get so many wrinkles/With your teeth, they're about to twinkle/Whenever you look at the mirror.") Once again, it's telling you that you need to make others happy and that you have to show them what you got because it builds some self-esteem and confidence for the listener who hears this track. ("Don't let yourself down in the grandiose life/That is yours, you need to talk about/What makes you happy inside and out/Those words can turn you into poems/Take you many places you can roam/You own this show all the time in the world/Now, go out there and live your dream, for the world.")
Amongst the verses is the chorus for Happy because it delivers a blend of both first-person perspectives consecutively about the topic of the song which is being happy. Throughout the chorus, it addresses you to get up and sing and dance along to the song you're listening to. This is because the listeners will try to get used to being happy instead of getting in one of those negative emotions every day. ("All of this makes me feel happy/So go on, sing a song, ol' chappy/With your friends and your grandpappy/And pretty soon, you'll be happy/Like me, I'm happy/Oh, so happy/I'm happy that I can dance again/So happy.")
Today, I have been changing the chord structure of the chorus from my third song, Happy. The original plan for the structure featured the Cmaj9 chord twice, however, due to the inability to practice quick Cmaj9 transitions to B minor, I had to replace a ninth major chord with a suspended chord because the latter will be more suitable for the chorus to transition from one to the other chord rather than make ninth major chords complicated for this part of the song.
Chorus: Csus2, Bm, Csus2, Bm, Gmaj7, Emaj9
The next song Fine by You is a pop and R&B ballad that focuses on an unrequited love between two partners. Set at a 4/4 bar measure, the song's tempo is set at 90 BPM while the key signatures are at C major and D major on the final chorus.
Fine by You is another ballad taken from the In Teknikolour album with the concept focusing on unrequited love in terms of production and lyrics. This song includes a slow composition that sounds happy but it also has nonchalant lyrics about brushing off the relationship when someone is not interested in you but is interested in the other person he or she is in love with.
The way that we would advertise the song to teenagers is to put this out on social media as a preview for the EP. I think teens will like it because they have been in a relationship that is either forbidden or unrequited to one another, therefore they would take inspiration from the song. As for the record label, they would like the track because of its lyrical content and catchiness.
Intro: C, Fmaj7, Gsus4
Verse: Csus2, G, F, Dm7
Pre-chorus: F, G, C, Em7
Chorus: Csus2, Gsus4, Am7, Csus2, Gsus4, Fmaj9
Bridge: Dm7, G, C
Verse one:
We need to talk about what's going on
I feel scared about doing you wrong
But I didn't, we always break up and makeup
Lots of times, do you want to stay up?
Maybe we can sort things out
But you had to bring it down instead
I was seriously in love with you
However, you kept passing me by all through
Pre-chorus:
Do you remember what it's like
Seeing the opposite of love?
Do you need a little time?
To clear your mind or are we done?
Chorus:
If you want to go the polar side
It's alright with me
And if I choose to walk on by
That's fine by you
I'm sorry you got into this
Because it's something that felt amiss
If you pick the contrary route that I did
It's fine by you
Verse two:
I felt worn out trying to keep the peace
Because what you did was to let out a scream
Kept telling me you can't do it anymore
If there's silence around you, you will soar away
It meant that I won't see your face again
Because it felt like this was already the end
But I kept calm, even went and forgot about it
So I won't keep bugging you before you doubt it
[repeat pre-chorus]
[repeat chorus]
Bridge:
You can go my own way
Or you can go the reversible way
It is a possibility
That you can deal with the impossible
Love as we know it is unanswered
Because you're just not into me
If you want to choose the opposite path
That's fine by you
[repeat chorus]
Today, I have started working on my next song called In Her Shoes. An uptempo trap song about being envious, it is about a woman whose male partner is in an estranged relationship with his envious girlfriend because she had thought about replacing the female partner once she leaves him. The song is set at 115 BPM (on the intro and outro) and 155 BPM (verse, chorus and bridge) respectively with its bar measures set at 12/8, 4/4 and 3/4. The song's key signatures are at G# minor for the majority of the song's structure and B major for the bridge section.
In Her Shoes is a track that features a trap-styled composition and lyrical content about a woman who is about to take the place of an estranged girlfriend in a failed relationship. With the conceptualization of envies and its association with the colour green, teens might like this song because when somebody is getting tired of the partner he or she is with, they would understand that they would break up, leaving the other one as a replacement for the previous lover. The song is relatable for teens who are also in a relationship like that.
The way I would present it to my record label is to promote this song on social media as a sneak peeks of what's to come on the album. It is a different song that distinguishes it from the rest of the tracks I've worked on because it has a mature composition and vengeful lyrics throughout. The record label would like this one because I like to add in a bit of variety to this album addressing the concept of In Teknikolour, but with a different feel.
Intro/outro: G#m7, Emaj7, C#m7, Eb7
Verse: Ebm, G#m7, Edim, F#sus4
Chorus: G#m, Emaj7, Ebm7
Bridge: B, Eb, F#dim
Verse one:
Didn't you realize that this girl kept complaining
Because all I need out of her is a lot of explaining
I know you've been hurt due to how she acts
Because all she talks about is you being a twat
You need to get over her, start a new page
You don't want to see her go through the sudden rage
It's just a matter of time before she drops the bomb
Tell that girl to bugger off because she's gone
Chorus:
But don't worry, I'll step in her shoes
See how she feels now that you're hardly used
That woman's getting envious, looking all green
So she's going to see the world that's left unseen
You don't deserve to be caught up in the dirt
Because I know you've already been hurt
You have to understand once I step in her shoes
And when I do, it'll eventually be me and you
Verse two:
Don't you see that a woman like me
Seen so many signs of troubled dreams
Ask this girl who's been the angry one
It's like she wants to write a heartbreak song
How unnecessary is that
For a man to be fallen into a trap?
You need somebody to cater for
Because you don't need to be hated for
[repeat chorus]
Bridge:
I hate when the girl gets her hands on you
Let's face it, I wouldn't matter to you
I'll never do anything to someone like you
Who's been through a terrible love, times two
So when she's finished, I'll take her place
Because you'll never be controlled this way
What I'll do is step in her shoes
For now, you see, I'm often into you
[repeat chorus twice]
The challenges I'm facing with my solo EP are the bits where I feel stressed out and I have no plans for my next song to back it up. Also, I was being told by the music tutors to mix and master the tracks properly while I'm using Logic Pro independently with moderate flaws.
I would overcome these challenges I'm struggling with because for starters, I need to think of a plan before I can use it for college purposes. If it is made at home, I would go to a recording studio and edit the song using Logic Pro. If it is in the works at college, I would go on Logic at home when I'm not in one of those college days.
The constraints I face lies between the music production and my mental health meaning that my timing and stress levels can sometimes go off. The strategies for sorting out my stress-inducing problems and the ability to synchronize with the beat is to calm down and write something with lyrics and chord arrangements in the next production.
The skills that I've featured musically are my independent skills, time management skills and co-operation skills because they are the three skills that I have possessed through the first five weeks. After half term, I still need to enhance those skills because, to be a professional singer-songwriter and music producer, I should approach myself with some new ideas on what the next song's going to be.
The marketing EP is going great despite the Covid absence I had. I have been writing down a lot of details in regards to my next EP on social media, posting up snippets of my Logic Pro projects under the hashtag "ConfettiEP". I still need to promote the album even further and keep my core demographic updated with what I'm doing in the development process. For example, I should send in a preview of what the next track will be, depending on when it is completed.
My EP will appeal to the same record labels because labels such as 300 Entertainment, Ninja Tune and Butterz will still appreciate my music content. The genre hasn't changed much as they are staying how I originally intended.
The idea of Fine by You first grew into fruition when I wanted to do a pop ballad song that deals with the topic of unrequited love amongst teenagers. This is due to having one partner love another but that other partner wouldn't love that one back. For this song, I took that concept a step further and made it my track by writing down lyrics, producing chord structures and melodies and I have been laying down the vocal production afterwards.
In the first verse, the character in the song is trying to make amends with a male partner, only for him to look away from her because he's not interested in her. Because of the partner not wanting to speak to the person who's not in love, the character is indecisive and afraid about what the outcome will be if she talks to him. ("We need to talk about what's going on/I feel scared about doing you wrong/But I didn't, we always break up and makeup/Lots of times, do you want to stay up?") The character then confesses how her male lover is very much in love with her, only to realize that he is not seeing much of her as he brushes off her charm nonchalantly e.g. passing her through. ("Maybe we can sort things out/But you had to bring it down instead/I was seriously in love with you/However, you kept passing me by all through.")
In the pre-chorus section, the character asks some questions to the male partner deciding if he needs time away from her. The reason why is despite loving that person, it's unclear whether or not the boy lover wants personal space or the relationship is over. Its lack of clarification implies the listener to decide for himself or herself if the partner is going to give him his time off from the relationship or if it's going to end. ("Do you remember what it's like/Seeing the opposite of love?/Do you need a little time/To clear your mind or are we done?")
In the song's chorus, the character tells the partner that if he wants to take the opposite route of this relationship, she will shrug it off and accept how it is. As the title of the song suggests, the words "fine by you" mean that the character wouldn't mind about the person she is with because she can agree to the situation if the partner can go his separate ways and finish the relationship. If that happens, this character will go a similar path she did with him. ("If you want to go the polar side/It's alright with me/And if I choose to walk on by/That's fine by you/I'm sorry you got into this/Because it's something that felt amiss/If you pick the contrary route that I did/It's fine by you.")
In verse two, the story of unrequited love continues where a partner is feeling stressed out about the troubled relationship and he'd rather be somewhere else as a substitute for losing his temper. Meanwhile, the girlfriend feels tired of her unrequited boyfriend and his bouts because he wants to be somewhere where he needs to look for another girl and start a new relationship with her than he did with the previous one. ("I felt worn out trying to keep the peace/Because what you did was to let out a scream/Kept telling me you can't do it no more/If there's silence around you, you will soar away.") At one point, the boyfriend's decision to leave the relationship behind implies that the girlfriend will never see him again because of that partner looking for love with the next girl he dated and that she would miss him. However, her only reaction would be to forget that the relationship had already happened due to it being an unrequited love between her and the boyfriend. ("It meant that I won't see your face again/Because it felt like this was already the end/But I kept calm, even went and forgot about it/So I won't keep bugging you before you doubt it.")
In the song's bridge, the girlfriend tells her now-ex boyfriend if he can go his way or her way, depending on which road to take in the relationship. Eventually, she would say to that person that if he goes in the polar direction of this relationship, she will agree to it and let it pass. This is due to a build-up in the song's chorus where it undergoes a key change to D major into the song's eventual climax. ("You can go my way/Or you can go the reversible way/It is a possibility/That you can deal with the impossible/Love as we know it is unanswered/Because you're just not into me/If you want to choose the opposite path/That's fine by you.")
In the conceptualization of In Her Shoes, I want to produce and write a song that is akin to my other track from my debut album, but with a little maturity and feistiness in terms of the instrument and vocal production. I wrote down some chord arrangements and melodies in a minor key signature and trap-infused beats because I need to make it sound upbeat while adding in some haunted elements into the musical instruments and drum beats alone. Then I wrote down some lyrics about a femme fatale who wants to seek vengeance on a begrudgingly toxic relationship caused by an envious girlfriend; like the song title, she wants to replace the girlfriend with her own so that she can convince the boyfriend to move on from a failed relationship and begin a new one. Teenagers know how they feel about one's envious partner due to proclaiming what the other one has that he or she don't, thus carrying on with a relationship that is about to go on the rocks. This is why I came up with In Her Shoes because I can understand what it's like to be caught in a relationship that doesn't last long and yet that other person would be able to replace the estranged partner someone is in love with before it got out of control.
In verse one, the woman is getting sick of the failed relationship between the boyfriend and girlfriend, sparking off a whirlwind of envy and pressure amid said relationship. It is hinted that the relationship is falling apart due to the girlfriend's envious acts towards her male partner and commented about the time he's been feeling stupid to her. ("Didn't you realize that this girl kept complaining/Because all I need out of her is a lot of explaining/I know you've been hurt due to how she acts/Because all she talks about is you being a twat.") In the middle of a broken relationship, the woman tells the partner to let go of that relationship and start anew with the next one because he doesn't want to see the girlfriend do bad things to him whilst at the beginning stages of her jealousy behaviour. ("You need to get over her, start a new page/You don't want to see her go through the sudden rage/It's just a matter of time before she drops the bomb/Tell that girl to bugger off because she's gone.")
In the chorus, we see that the woman is making a vengeful plot that will break the boyfriend's stalled romance, but in a good way. This infers that she wants to take the place of a girlfriend and let the boyfriend come over so that she can give him a word of advice about breaking off the relationship. From that moment on, she would tell her boyfriend that she is his and he is hers, forgetting about the ex-girlfriend altogether. ("But don't worry, I'll step in her shoes/See how she feels now that you're hardly used/That woman's getting envious, looking all green/So she's going to see the world that's left unseen/You don't deserve to be caught up in the dirt/Because I know you've already been hurt/You have to understand once I step in her shoes/And when I do, it'll eventually be me and you.")
In verse two, we see that the woman is upset about the boyfriend's begrudged romance with her girlfriend because she feels sorry to him about what had happened that caused the relationship to break away. She rumoured that the girlfriend is always troubled and has plans of making a song that has a concept of heartbreak in an angry timbre but was never objectified. ("Don't you see that a woman like me/Seen so many signs of troubled dreams/Ask this girl who's been the angry one/It's like she wants to write a heartbreak song.") In response, the woman needs the boyfriend looking after unlike what his girlfriend possesses from the start. This again theorizes the envy theme of the song because the woman of the song needs to take care of a boyfriend and treat him more fairly in contrast to what the girlfriend hadn't done with him. ("How unnecessary is that/For a man to be fallen in a trap?/You need somebody to cater for/Because you don't need to be hated for.")
In the bridge, the woman makes a promise to the boyfriend that she would trust him and stand by his side. It is implying that she would be a better girlfriend to the previous one a boyfriend had in the past for him to get away from a failed romance and create a new one from there with a different person who's more caring and trustworthy, not only to the boyfriend but to everyone else around him too. Once that piece of drama is resolved, he will break off that toxic romance and be with a new girlfriend who will love him even more. ("I hate when the girl gets her hands on you/Let's face it, I wouldn't matter to you/I'll never do anything to someone like you/Who's been through a terrible love, times two/So when she's finished, I'll take her place/Because you'll never be controlled this way/What I'll do is step in her shoes.")
Today, I have written and produced my next song The Way They Are, a mid-tempo R&B and hip-hop track about tackling issues with racism, discrimination and prejudice amongst people who were dark-skinned, especially black citizens. Disguised as an anthem for Black History Month, the song's tempo is set at 90 BPM in a 4/4 bar measure with its key signature at B-flat minor.
The Way They Are deals with the struggles of black rights across America, meaning that teenagers will get used to the song due to its problems of fitting in the black community and being different in an ethnic group with the same race. Teens who have an ethnic background can relate to the track because the lyrical content is based on real-life events that are happening in the United States of America in the past and present, presumably civil unrests and the deaths of black-skinned people that are caught with a crime they've never committed to.
There are two versions of The Way They Are: the first has English lyrics while the second is under a different language encouraging listeners to hear and sing the namesake track in another language besides English. I have written the other version of this song in Afrikaans (Soos Hulle Is) because teenagers who are in the UK from Africa should learn that language and sing the lyrics over the track, otherwise they could stick with the English version if they are unable to study the Afrikaans language.
If I were to give this song (both versions) to my record label, I would have to advertise it through social media or something else including the newspapers, television, billboards and magazine. The Way They Are is an empowerment anthem that has inspirational lyrics and a hefty hip-hop music production throughout and it suggests that the executives of my label will like this one since it has a message to my target audience about the danger signs of living in the black community under a different ethnicity, being the strongest suit of the In Teknikolour project.
Intro/outro: Bbm, C#, F#7, Dbsus4 (Db, Gb, Ab), F dominant 7
Verse: Bbm7, Ebm, F dominant 7, Bbsus2 (Bb, C, F), F
Chorus: Bbm, F#7, F
ENGLISH: The Way They Are
Verse one:
What’s the difference between being black or being white?
It’s a racial innovative that became a crime
Front and centre, black people are the ones to blame
More than white people with their lives they claim
The ten-year-old boy had a gun in his hand
Thinking he and his dad are gonna rob a bank
When the cops came here, they shot him down
And soon the riots went over town
It went past five o clock when they heard the guns cocking
The New York citizens listened to the cops knocking
Several of them became the ones who oppose
The rights of equality in an aggressive tone
The officer began pleading
While that little boy continued bleeding
Couldn’t pay attention to the decree
Not guilty, suck it, he’s not taking me
Chorus:
Why was I the one disturbing the peace?
If I’m staying the same, was it all I needed?
Is it because I’m white?
Or am I saying to think it’s a crime?
Just because I’m light-skinned
Don’t mean you can put me in the bin
I’m different to who they are
Because I am the way they are
Verse two:
Back in my country, I lived across the ghetto
Trying to set the standards of writing bars that mellow
Shootings start to get erratic for teens
Talking of, let’s go back to 2015
I was a student almost ending my school years
Until that man carried a knife too near
At the ones who objected him
Opposing to the ones who protect him
He was only in his mid-twenties
When he went to the hospital in a frenzy
Not before he got the handcuffs
The officers battered him, though roughly
Life in Baltimore is a little tough
So the riots and protests are having enough
Thanks to dropping charges halfway through
Just imagine I am resisting arrest upon the curfew
[repeat chorus]
Verse three:
Now when the epidemic started
People went and stayed apart
Guarding themselves at six feet
Then before I knew it, I have seen
A man carrying twenty dollars
From his pockets before hollering
Getting pinned down by cops
Couldn’t be able to breathe, he dropped
Down to the station, saw the cash was forged
The man didn’t talk like he did before
As the policeman went into court
He was guilty, had to go out the door
And got into jail as justice had to be served
Because I remember a lesson had to be learned
It's all real news that had to be spewed out
By the press whose equality article can continue now
[repeat chorus]
AFRIKAANS: Soos Hulle Is (The Way They Are)
Verse one:
Onskuldig, suig dit, hy vat my nie
Chorus:
Hoekom versteur ek die vrede?
Is dit al wat Ek wou hê?
Is dit omdat ek wit is?
Of is dit alles 'n misdaad?
Ek voel lig van vel
Dit sal my nie breek nie
Ek is anders as wie hulle is
Want ek is soos hulle is
Verse two:
Toe hy in 'n waansin hospitaal toe is
[repeat chorus]
Verse three:
Nou toe die epidemie begin het
Mense het gegaan en apart gebly
Bewaak hulleself op ses voet
Voor ek dit geweet het, het ek gesien
'n Man wat twintig dollar dra
[repeat chorus]
The concept of the song is about dealing with equality issues based on different skin colours because the majority of racial music artists have been covering those problems in a bunch of those tracks. Artists like Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Marvin Gaye, Beyonce, James Brown and Stevie Wonder were among the few black performers to have written, produced and sung a track that features them protesting at a subject that upsets them and other people including the end to war, racism situations, female rights and political issues. The Way They Are is considered a protest song, but it also recounts past events that occurred in North America due to the country's act of slavery while also getting privileged under the law meaning that black people and other citizens of different skin colour aren't going to face the likes of immigration, literacy and the right to vote. Teens who are related to the song's lyrics and music production will help them inspire someone who is having trouble being in a racial community because it has the same people with the same skin in an equal group, making things hard for a person with a different ethic to fit in with the rest of the team.
Lyrically in The Way, They Are, three verses were based on real-life tragic events with black people that happened in the past to present. For those lyrics, I have been covering the deaths of Clifford Glover, a ten-year-old school student from New York City, New York, USA, twenty-five-year-old Freddie Gray Jr. from Baltimore, Maryland, USA and Fayetteville resident George Floyd from North Carolina, USA. Along the way, I have also been writing about the riots following the deaths of those three citizens because I want the listener to feel sad about the violence in the civil unrest, especially after the passing of a person who is dark-skinned and started the incident.
For instance, the death of Clifford Glover became a serious topic through verse one. After the first few lines which give us the question, "What's the difference between being black or being white?" It then leaves the listener with a reply stating that it started as an idea before it went downhill in terms of racism, discrimination and prejudice because people who have a dark skin colour have more problems than they are with white people in the American community. The beginning lines will last through each verse (with a first-person view in the second verse) before tackling a serious issue and what caused it, in this case, Clifford Glover. Clifford was a young boy living in New York City with his parents and had attended an unnamed school before the shooting took effect. In the lyrics, it was rumoured that the boy was carrying a weapon and that he and his father are going to commit a bank robbery before getting shot down by a police officer, thus starting a riot in South Jamaica. We found out that later on, the officer that shot him was found not guilty because he speculated that the father took the gun away from his son's hand. ("The ten-year-old boy had a gun in his hand/Thinking he and his dad are gonna rob a bank/When the cops came here, they shot him down/And soon the riots went over town/It went past five o clock when they heard the guns cocking/The New York citizens listened to the cops knocking/The officer began pleading/While that little boy continued bleeding.")
In verse two, it takes on another subject which recollects the Baltimore riots and the Freddie Gray incident. In this verse, Freddie Gray was a young man and a juvenile delinquent living in his mid-twenties in Baltimore, Maryland. For some time, he had been carrying a knife and started threatening a few police officers before they arrested him and was ended up in a hospital, leading to his homicide. The reason why is Freddie had been opposing the law facing a criminal record and possessing drugs throughout his life, ultimately in him getting charges for drug substance. Following on from the event, the police officers were suspended and filed charges against one another, declaring that Gray's death is proven to be a homicide rather than an accident. ("That man carried a knife too near/At the ones who objected him/Opposing to the ones who protect him/He was only in his mid-twenties/When he went to the hospital in a frenzy/Not before he got the handcuffs/The officers battered him, though roughly/Life in Baltimore is a little tough/So the riots and protests are having enough/Thanks to dropping charges halfway through.")
The third and final verse has a final subject that takes back to the time when the death of George Floyd had happened amongst the ongoing civil unrests and protests throughout North America. George Floyd lived in Fayetteville and often went to a shop in Minneapolis as a customer while landing several jobs as a police officer, bouncer and truck driver. One day, another customer felt suspicious about what the man was carrying because George Floyd had a twenty-dollar bill in his hand before paying. It turns out that the bill was counterfeit and the police got involved dropping George down to the ground before he was arrested for carrying a fake twenty-dollar bill. Due to the police brutality, he was unable to breathe for air and eventually broke his neck in the process. Following his death, the protests began to break out across the majority of North America where people from different races joined in to fight against those who have been disobedient with racism as well as trying to encounter the police violently before the incident. ("I have seen/A man carrying twenty dollars/From his pockets before hollering/Getting pinned down by cops/Couldn’t be able to breathe, he dropped/Down to the station, saw the cash was forged/The man didn’t talk like he did before/As the policeman went into court/He was guilty, had to go out the door/And got into jail as justice had to be served.")
In the song's chorus which comes after each verse, it has a first-person perspective where the narrator was questioned why she was one of those people who was against the law when she wants to be indistinguishable in the same community under a different ethnicity. The reason why is that because black people are getting dissed from another racial community, she didn't want to do the same with a different group of racial people, thus declaring that she needs to stay how she is the way they are, despite the skin colour. ("Why was I the one disturbing the peace?/If I’m staying the same, was it all I needed?/Is it because I’m white?/Or am I saying to think it’s a crime/Just because I’m light-skinned/Don’t mean you can put me in the bin/I’m different to who they are/Because I am the way they are.")
Today, I have been writing and producing my next song from In Teknikolour called Sea of Storms (Rainbows Will Appear), a pop track that touches on the women who are struggling to be beautiful on the inside. The tempo is set at 112 BPM in a 6/8 bar measure and the key signature is set at E minor, with two key changes of G major in the chorus and G-flat major in the final chorus of the song.
Sea of Storms (Rainbows Will Appear) is a female empowerment track that is sung from a first-person perspective and second-person perspective because of its pop and soul production and inspirational lyrics about women who were trying to stay as pretty as they could, regardless of their imperfections that caused them to be taken aback from the start. Female teenagers will like the song because, despite their flaws, they can look attractive and be themselves instead of them thinking about those defects in the mirror. Its subject matter of attempting to look good will motivate young ladies into being who they are and they will not let anything damage their visions of being the perfect girl.
Record labels will love the concept of this next song because Sea of Storms is about improving your beauty despite the disadvantages women went through. Its well-derived soul-pop production, soft harmonies and stimulating lyrics about the dangers that flawless girls will face could work well with the promotion of this track when I put a snippet of it on social media. The reason is I want to let the song speak up for the ladies who were trying to redeem themselves from their limitations and be who they want to be even with their continuous flaws throughout their lives.
Intro/verse: Em, C, B, Em, Am, Bsus4
Pre-chorus: Csus4, Bm7, Gm7, Dmaj9
Chorus: Gmaj7, D, Am7, C
Bridge: B, Em, Bb7, G, Am
Verse one:
It comes to no surprise
I regretted this very day
The minute he came here
He got a bullet to my face
Am I a freak
Because I’m different to other girls
Been getting surgery
Watching my insecurities unfurl
Pre-chorus:
Maybe I
Made one misfire
Hadn’t it been torture?
I’ll always be a survivor
Chorus:
In this sea of storms
I vow to take revenge
On the one that did me wrong
And to others, I will avenge to
All the pain and hurt, I prayed
That a rainbow will soon appear
I’m at odds with being broken
So I’ll remember how to breathe
Verse two:
Strong winds burst through the sky
When murder taught me about dying
I felt disfigured
Until now, my skin got thicker
I now know how to smile
And I’ve done it for a while
I spoke out from the heart
That I will be a part (of those girls)
[repeat pre-chorus]
[repeat chorus]
Bridge:
The first thing about beauty is
Would you throw everything away?
It’s okay that you feel beautiful
But you don’t have the turn of phrase
To say that you’re perfect
You have to take risks at all costs
However, you’ll be just fine
With a plan of a payback
[repeat chorus till fade]
After doing the last song for Black History Month, I wanted to do a track that is tailored for International Women's Day this year. Associating with its theme of equality, I have decided to do the next one because this time around it will be targeting female listeners of my core demographic. With its written lyrics about facing your imperfections in terms of character and personality and its 6/8 soul-pop and electroproduction, Sea of Storms struck through my mind. The track was written around the time when Storm Eunice broke through the rest of Great Britain because the name alone will fit as a metaphor for being a powerful woman who can help other faltered ladies in need. Women have been through this situation before and others went on to go about their daily lives despite their faults, whereas some of them dealt with anxiety and depression issues, implying that they couldn't take their failures any longer.
Its lyrics talk about the real-life event of an American woman whose face had been deformed after her abusive boyfriend fired bullets at her. However, despite this, she continues to carry on with her life and eventually became an inspiration to young women who have also faced similar problems. Being in a violent relationship became a recurring theme in the first verse where a young woman had to go get plastic surgery at a hospital following the incident. This is because although there was no reason why the man held the woman at gunpoint, she had to be hospitalised and was therefore given a makeover, bending the shape of her face while being anxious about it. ("It comes to no surprise/I regretted this very day/The minute he came here/He got a bullet to my face/Am I a freak/Because I’m different to other girls/Been getting surgery/Watching my insecurities unfurl.")
In the pre-chorus before the chorus, the woman thought that the shooting was an accident, but I can imagine that if this experience hadn't caused her to get injured, she will continue to thrive even with her imperfections. This is further explained because the shooting was an incident and not an accident meaning that if it became more fatal, she would've been dead in the hospital before the surgery began. ("Maybe I/Made one misfire/Hadn’t it been torture/I’ll always be a survivor.")
In the song's chorus, the titular sea of storms turns into a metaphor for someone who is about to get back at the other people who poked fun at her along with the opportunity to defend those girls that have dealt with a similar issue before, including herself. ("In these seas of storms/I vow to take revenge/On the one that did me wrong/And to others, I will avenge to/All the pain and hurt...") At one point in the song, she wished that a rainbow will come into view across the sky because the rainbow symbolizes hope for happiness amongst people who are feeling down about something they can't forget about. Although the woman is being imperfect, she is still learning how to get through life with the inclusion of her personality defects. ("I prayed/That a rainbow will soon appear/I’m at odds with being broken/So I’ll remember how to breathe.")
In the second verse, the woman talks about her insecurities on a windy day, stating the obvious that her face is now out of shape. This is because she has been getting depressed lately post-surgery and she needs to find an opportunity to rejuvenate herself without carrying it on. ("Strong winds burst through the sky/When murder taught me about dying/I felt disfigured...) Her hopeful chances at loving herself come later in the verse, commenting that she can smile and talk again leading into her telling other women about her experience and how she wants to be in this community filled with young and old females who have been getting similar faults as she is. ("Until now, my skin got thicker/I now know how to smile/And I’ve done it for a while/I spoke out from the heart/That I will be a part (of those girls).")
In the bridge of the song following from the pre-chorus and chorus, the lyrics transition from the first-person point of view to a second-person perspective. Beginning from the first two lines: "The first thing about beauty is/Would you throw everything away?" It is rumoured that if a young lady has had any experience with perfectionism, they are given the first option to put in their weaknesses. This gives a direct address to the female listeners due to them dealing with their own falters in personality and character, suggesting that they need to make their sacrifices to make them feel strong and glamorous, transforming them into beautiful, independent women that will keep going for the rest of their lives. ("It’s okay that you feel beautiful/But you don’t have the turn of phrase/To say that you’re perfect/You have to take risks at all costs/However, you’ll be just fine/With a plan of a payback.")
Today, I have written a bilingual song in Japanese and English called Kibo ga Ari, Kaka rete Inai, which is translated to The Hopeful and Unwritten as its English title. A track that interpolates an uptempo J-pop music production, the tempo is set at 145 BPM with its key signature set at A major. Teenagers and adults will like the song due to its bilingual lyrical content, its modal changes and its J-pop composition about people who want to withstand their negative feelings in a song whilst facing problems with what they want to write and sing about.
I think record labels would love the song's concept and its mixture of Japanese and English words because it would catch the attention of my target audience of Asian heritage, presumably those who are from Japan. To do this, I have to put out the song and promote it on my social media pages as a way for people to get that track and gain inspiration from it that is entirely about finding your spark through song-writing. I will also put it out through word of mouth, on the telly, through the billboards and in magazines and newspapers.

The inspiration behind The Hopeful and Unwritten came to me when I was self-isolating myself after being tested positive for Covid. For some time, I have been listening to songs in a different foreign language because I want to sing about something bilingually in the place of having me sing a track in the English language. I listened to songs in French, Norwegian, Swedish and later Japanese which will be the other language that I need to learn.
Japan is part of the Asia region and amongst its Japanese culture of girls wearing school clothing, popular anime characters and Japanese food ranging from riceballs to ramen noodles, music is also a part of this country due to its uptempo and varied instrumentation sung in its Japanese language. I have been listening to tunes that are sung in the Japanese language and never could I sing a song under that language without learning its pronunciation. With this new song, I want to demonstrate it in a different language and sing it bilingually while also doing it in the English language.
The two verses centre around finding your song in the midst of failing at doing your composition because a lot of people have been getting problems with searching for song ideas and writer's block, getting to the point where they can't think of something until they use a brainstorming strategy around it to make a hit song. They are sung under the perspective of a DJ who wants to make the citizens feel inspired by creating music for the new ones who haven't listened to any music genre before, therefore producing their tracks as they go along.
In the first verse, the visitors are finding it hard to come up with a song idea because they aren't being introduced to music yet along with the ability to create a track from scratch by themselves. It was then that the song gives its introduction to the DJ of the song who feels disappointed about a lot of people trying to pile up some new ideas for a track that will go on to huge success in the music industry. ("Watashi wa kaitai no utahimedesu/Warui ongaku o hakai suru/Micho ni seiki o hete/Dorei o odora seru tame ni mamoru.") It is later suggested that they are lacking any inspiration in the song because the visitors aren't paying attention to what they come up with in terms of making their composition and thus they needed to be inspired by using a brainstorming technique to make a song out of it. ("Hitobito ga iu no o kiita/Kyoku no insupireshon o ushinau/Dore ga hitsuyodesu ka/Sore wa fanni kangee saserudeshu.")
The second verse is about the DJ asking questions to the people who are failing in gaining inspiration for a new song. For example, she tells them what is missing in there and she later gave the direct answer to them that a beat and some melodies are what a track needs. This is because a song needs to have a drum beat and an instrument line that will back up the production using harmonies, bass lines, riffs and melodies to go along with the drums. ("Kyoku ni kakete iru mono/Daremega kanjiru koto ga dekimasu/Tamashi o kataru merodi/Matawa isshoni do suru bito.") Furthermore, the DJ tells the visitors that they need to make the song that they have never written before due to echoing the song title in the hopes they should become famous after a song that will either be advertised as a signature track or a one-hit-wonder. ("Koewokakeruniwa/Koe ga hitsuyodesu/Kikitai bito kincho o torino zoku fangae/Kibo ga ari, kaka rete inaihito kyokuni.")
In the pre-chorus, the DJ needs to think of a way to make the people feel inspired in terms of going through a taste in music. Because of this, she is going to make a track that will help the citizens find their journeys in the sounds of music, thus leading up to the chorus of the song which, like the title says, will aim at those who have never written down a song before but have hopes of doing so. ("Minn dniai okomemashou/Soshite, yuka ninai itaihitowa daredemo.")
In the song's chorus, it is sung in a mixture of English and Japanese languages due to singing it bilingually as a way for the DJ to produce and write her track that is designed for the ones who have not been writing a song before. This is so that people need to be putting some relation into its concept about getting a spark through writing music. ("This is our anthem for the hopeful and unwritten/The one you want to sing loud than a whisper/Nisei o toshite Mae ni sokoniita/But there will be a hymn to bring a call to mind/At last, I made one for the hopeful and unwritten.")
The song's instrumental part features some modal changes into the production because due to its uptempo and energetic theme, I want to make it sound more like an opening theme tune to a Japanese anime cartoon the way it should be. A similar thing can be done with the outro as it includes the prominence of two diminished chords that are borrowed from the major scale. For instance, A becomes Adim and G has a Gdim chord because it signifies them being set at a minor scale with A minor and G minor being placed into the chord structure rather than sticking at A major and G major. The chorus part also has an Edim chord because it is substituting the E major chord and it is now set at E minor instead.
Adim: A, C, Eb
Gdim: G, Bb, C#
Edim: E, G, Bb
Today, I have been modifying the intro and pre-chorus structures because the chords that were intended for the final mix of The Hopeful and Unwritten are scrapped due to some complicated chord arrangements I cannot do. In place of the original chords in the structure are the new chord arrangements that will be placed in the intro and pre-chorus of the track, with the addition of suspended chords and diminished chords at some point in both structures.
Intro: A, E, Dsus4, F#m, E, Dsus2 (Dm7 as a build-up to the song's structure, verse or instrumental)
Pre-chorus: Edim, F#dim, Dmaj7
Also, I have been putting in an instrumental part that consists of mainly augmented chords that differ from the suspended and diminished chords I've done. The reason why is because I want to try something new with the instrumental structure and concentrate on doing some augmented chords rather than only doing suspended and diminished chords throughout the production.
Instrumental: G#dim, Dsus2, Gaug, Esus4 (E, F#m, Dsus4 as a build-up to the final chorus)
I have been adding in an augmented chord because, in the complete opposite of a diminished chord, the augmented chord structure is played at a major chord whereas a diminished chord is set at a minor chord. In the Gaug chord, it creates a diminished triad that is set at G major because it produces a bright, but strange tone in the modal change. I wanted to add something brand new to the structure that doesn't revolve around suspended and diminished chords in its song's entirety and thanks to the addition of an augmented chord, I want to build it up in a happier timbre rather than it being in a moody tonality.
A similar thing can be applied for the outro because the Gdim chord isn't part of the A major structure and something had to change. Therefore, it will have a G#dim chord as a replacement to the original Gdim chord. The same can be said for the Adim chord because I want to substitute an augmented chord in there, turning into Aaug than what it originally intended alongside the seventh dominant chord in C# minor.
Outro: Aaug, E, G#dim, C#m, D
Today, I have been writing another track called Xcuse My French (Drama Queen). A midtempo hip-hop song about someone who's been through a break-up, yet coming out strong in the end, the song's tempo is set at 112 BPM while the key signature is set at B minor but with a key change to D major in the song's chorus.
My target demographic will like the song due to its modal changes mixed between happy and sad in the composition, mature writing and its message suggesting that people must celebrate following a break-up with someone who hasn't been getting along in the relationship. Mostly, a lot of men and women have been struggling with their love lives due to the amount of betrayal and/or infidelity in one's partner causing them to leave the relationship. But rather than be moody and depressing about what is up with their partners, they will put on a brave face and confront them in a self-empowering way before ending the romance.
I will convince the record label to put the song out on my social media pages and through word of mouth, the television, billboards, newspapers, magazines and on the radio because I want to give it a preview of my new song that has a celebratory statement, conveying that people would pull out a savage move and move on from their toxic relationships after years of betrayal and infidelity, hence the words "excuse my french" being an example of showing off your strength and independence as a person following a break-up.
Verse: Bm, F#7, G, Em7
Chorus: D, Amaj7, Emaj7, Gdim
Bridge: Bm, G, D, F#7, Em, Bb7, Amaj7
Verse one:
I wish you wouldn’t be so dumb
Now that I’m stood here drinking rounds of rum
You and your mates were having fun
Before you start breaking young girls’ hearts and then some
“Come on, it isn’t always bad,” you said
“Keep it together,” it read, “think it’s a fad?” I said
Well, I’m not the kind of girl with the bark she chews
Go get your date, she’s already past due
Now I’m huddled to the corner crying
Pondering how I wish you could die
Without me often on your side
I don’t think it’ll do us good, you and I
I need to take a break from screaming
About your infidelity and start dreaming
How I can pen a song with feeling
Look to the stars when I see them gleaming
Chorus:
Excuse my French,
But I’m bloody better than you
Pardon my language,
But you f****d me over in two
This is the final time I attempted
Someone who is hell bent over me
Excuse my French,
But I think you’re a w****r and a drama queen
Verse two:
I came by your house blocks away
From where I’m at, and what did you say?
“I don’t ever recall seeing you”
Oh really? What are you going to do?
When we began dating with destiny
It feels like I’m high on ecstasy
Swore you had to keep it on a low profile
Now it’s all about restraining files
Every time I go near you with that milf
Obviously, she’s rubbish judging from the filth
I plead the fifth, sod it, I’m going to the Oak
While you and your lover watch Hollyoaks
Sounds like a great end, isn’t it?
Okay, I will let her finish
But I’m your greatest woman of all time
You could’ve stuck with the latter from Tyne
[repeat chorus]
Verse three:
If I were to pick on someone who’s greedy
I had a thought I’d give your ego to the needy
You stole my heart, gave me your ambition
You’ve taken me for granted, now you’re fishing
For others in the sea, including your jilted c***s
Who’ll kick you in the b*****ks, or rather your bum
It’s not good clean fun when your trousers are soiled
All I know is you’re a man child who’s feeling spoiled
Thanks to you, my colours are getting brighter
Opened my senses now I’m done with all-nighters
There’s your keys and your Beamer
Because it’s the last time you’re going to see her
Bridge:
But I could congratulate you, though
For turning those women into psychos
And when I say you’re a drama queen
Tell you the truth, let me scream it out
[repeat chorus]
The idea of this song came out of my mind where the abstractions of creating tracks about the topic of a breakup are starting to get more explicit and grown-up over the present decade, especially during the wake of the pandemic. Xcuse My French is the ultimate breakup anthem aimed at people who have been going through their failed relationships for a few reasons that are left to be told. This is because it has a powerful message to the exes who have been doing bad things to their ex-partners and therefore the latter will move on from the relationship and begin their new chapter in their single life until they find another lover that can treat them better.
Verse one tells the story of a female person who has been drinking all night following a messy breakup from a bad relationship with her ex-boyfriend. The reason why is that this song covers the topic of betrayal where a person has done a lover wrong, causing the latter to end the relationship for good. In this one, the woman looks back on how her ex-boyfriend's doing without her now that she is finished with the heartbreak. ("I wish you wouldn’t be so dumb/Now that I’m stood here drinking rounds of rum/You and your mates were having fun/Before you start breaking young girls’ hearts and then some.") This suggests that the woman has been drinking loads of rum in a depressing mood and how her ex and his friends are going around talking to other women instead of solely focusing on her. The song then delves into a conversation about the boyfriend fobbing off thinking that him going out with different girls isn't a bad thing when in reality, cheating sets off a red flag implying that it could lead someone to some consequences if he or she is not being careful trying to stay in a relationship, or this case, be in a relationship. Therefore, the woman argues about how she's not the right choice for him yet the other woman he loves is. ("'Come on, it isn’t always bad,' you said/'Keep it together,' it read, 'think it’s a fad?' I said/Well, I’m not the kind of girl with the bark she chews/Go get your date, she’s already past due.") Tired of weeping about her recent breakup, the female person thinks that she will be better off without him and his cheating ways because she needs to think about living the single life for the time being and wondering how she's going to jot down a breakup track about him while staring off into space, leading up to the song's chorus. ("Now I’m huddled to the corner crying/Pondering how I wish you could die/Without me often on your side/I don’t think it’ll do us good, you and I/I need to take a break from screaming/About your infidelity and start dreaming/How I can pen a song with feeling/Look to the stars when I see them gleaming.")
The chorus of Xcuse my French is where things are beginning to sound adult-like in terms of lyrical content because like the title implies, the woman is sorry for her foul mouth but she's only aiming her use of bad language at her ex-partner as a way of getting back at him for his acts of betrayal amid their relationship. Midway through the chorus, the woman is declaring her independence from a broken relationship before culminating in that one moment where she calls him a bad word used from British slang and a drama queen together, realizing that he is not just stupid but a guy who likes to be very emotional in unfair situations too. ("Excuse my French,/But I’m bloody better than you/Pardon my language,/But you f****d me over in two/This is the final time I attempted/Someone who is hell bent over me/Excuse my French,/But I think you’re a w****r and a drama queen.")
In the next verse, the woman comes into the house of her ex-boyfriend whom he has completely forgotten about since he cheated on her with other females. Upon letting it slip about the woman he's with beforehand, she made a response to him about what he's going to do with her in an angry feeling because it's unclear whether or not the boyfriend will do something to the girl until later in the verse where he had filed a restraining order against her, not to mention a drug reference where the woman jogged her memory about falling in love with him. ("I came by your house blocks away/From where I’m at, and what did you say?/'I don’t ever recall seeing you'/Oh really? What are you going to do?/When we began dating with destiny/It feels like I’m high on ecstasy/Swore you had to keep it on a low profile/Now it’s all about restraining files.") The woman goes on about the new girl he's in love with because she describes her as "rubbish" and how she is filthy, giving an indirect reveal that the boyfriend is into this new girl who looks sexier than she is. ("Every time I go near you with that milf/Obviously, she’s rubbish judging from the filth/I plead the fifth, sod it, I’m going to the Oak/While you and your lover watch Hollyoaks.") After one more reference, the woman insists that her ex-partner would go for his latest girlfriend from a UK county now she's out of the picture, speculating that he could do better with his new female partner. ("Sounds like a great end, isn’t it?/Okay, I will let her finish/But I’m your greatest woman of all time/You could’ve stuck with the latter from Tyne.")
The third and final verse occurs with suspense upon the reveal that will shock my target demographic. In this verse, the woman is giving a contrast of her boyfriend's antagonistic behaviour to a mythological folklore hero. The first time I wrote that line was due to me living in Nottingham where it was widely coinciding with the legend of Robin Hood, a forest outlaw who stole from the rich and gave to the poor with all of his thief companions. Funnily enough, giving that self-centred attitude to the poor people is a humorous fit for a breakup song because of its elements with the witty banter. Along the way, the boyfriend is looking to find other girls that will make his day better, only to let them go through a one-night stand and deal with their heartbreaks after, with some of those women resorting to violence who have put up with a jerk of a partner. ("If I were to pick on someone greedy/I had a thought I’d give your ego to the needy/You stole my heart, gave me your ambition/You’ve taken me for granted, now you’re fishing/For others in the sea, including your jilted c***s/Who’ll kick you in the b*****ks, or rather your bum.") The boyfriend's embarrassments continue when he is about to soil himself at one point, claiming that this is an act of humiliation due to peeing and/or pooing himself in his underwear. Also, he proceeds to kick off about his failures of being in a new relationship with a new partner in regards to getting revenge for what he did with his ex-girlfriend in the past romance before a new relationship had started. Finally, it is revealed that the ex-boyfriend had been double-crossing his new girlfriend the entire time and that the other woman he's been with is applauding him for his latest downfall in his recent love life. All of this leads to the song's bridge where it transitions to a sing-song format, differentiating from the usual rapping in the verses. ("It’s not good clean fun when your trousers are soiled/All I know is you’re a man child who’s feeling spoiled/Thanks to you, my colours are getting brighter/Opened my senses now I’m done with all-nighters/There's your keys and your Beamer/Because it’s the last time you’re going to see her.")
Continuing from the third verse is the bridge section due to it being entirely sung instead of rapping. According to the bridge, it is rumoured that the woman is bleating about how her ex-boyfriend is cheating on other women and turning them into malicious, obsessive psychopaths because the remainder of this track is about how he is being over-dramatic and dumb with staying in love with somebody he comes across. In the end, since the boyfriend is now failing at his love life, the woman gave him a clarification about why he keeps acting up in the newest romance with other women in his life, building up to the final chorus of the song where once again, she bellows that her boyfriend is being a jerk and a diva all in one personality. ("But I could congratulate you, though/For turning those women into psychos/And when I say you’re a drama queen/Tell you the truth, let me scream it out.")
Today, I have been writing another track that opens my In Teknikolour album called Such Vibrant Colours I See. The song is an uptempo tune filled with EDM and classical music influences about someone going on an adventure in a perfect land filled with colours, just like the title of the album. The song's tempo is set at 132 BPM in a 12/8 bar measure while the key signature is at C major with the key change transitioning to D major in the final chorus.
With the song set at a happier key signature, positive and commended lyrics and an upbeat, catchy dance production with some mode changes in the instruments, my core demographic, teenagers and adults, will enjoy the song's concept because it is about somebody who is searching for their imaginations through the wonders of a planet that contains a lot of colours in there. This track opener will gear up for the rest of the songs that will be featured on this album due to representing a different colour and subject matter of each track resembling the album's concept.
If I were to promote the song for the In Teknikolour album, I would put it out on my social media pages as a sneak preview before giving this song to my record label, amongst various forms of physical media. The reason why the record label executives will like this song is it has a lot of positive energy for someone who is lacking at imagining something in a different world and that's why we creative thinkers need to step up our game and live in a world where there are colours that represent our feelings and emotions, both positive and negative.
Intro: C, Em7, F
Verse: C, Gmaj9, Dm, Gdim
Pre-chorus: Fmaj7, Am, C, Ddim, G
Chorus: C, Fmaj9, G, Dsus2
Bridge: Am, Edim, Dm7, Amaj9
Outro: D, F#7, Gmaj7
Verse one:
What beautiful texture I see
It looks like a book I can read
That fetching chroma I’ve seen
Feels what it wants to be
Such radiant quality, yes
Creating a vivid imagination is a guess
To prove that your uneasy feelings are less
To your heart but more in your mind, yet
Pre-chorus:
Isn’t that shade worth living for?
Expanding the image is what you’re heading for
Your curiosity is worth showing for
The people that wanted more
Chorus:
Such creative power you got
Such great imagery that means a lot
Such vibrant colours I see
Such inventiveness is all I need
With you, all-day
What huge artistry I crave
For the vibrant colours, I say
Because no invention can finish it this way
But you
Verse two:
What integrity I went and saw
From something that’s up to the core
Is it a piece of folklore
Of a legend that I adore?
What marvellous passion I love
It has delicacy and it looks fun
Don’t you wish you’d be under the sun
With writing that’s ready to be done?
[repeat pre-chorus]
[repeat chorus]
Bridge:
Can’t you see the creative path inside
An open door that goes to the other side?
No matter how hard you try
You could shine under the spotlight
Such wonderous ability you’re longing for
With a colour you’ve never possessed before
Your positive shade will be hard to ignore
Because you’ll leave them wanting more
[repeat chorus]
Outro:
I’m dreaming in colour
So won’t you do the same with the others?
Join me on a journey in technicolour
And remember, this one will relate to each other
The idea of Such Vibrant Colours I See started when I was at the halfway point of the In Teknikolour album. After doing my eighth track which is about communicating through a song in, I figured I should do a similar song to it, but it is where people can emote with their self-esteem in a different colour while in another world. It is an inspirational club anthem ladened with classical music elements because Such Vibrant Colours resembles that through lyrical content and an offbeat shuffling production that talks about someone showing off their colours to the world and everyone around it. It is a song that teenagers and adults would want to dance along to and I think it would be the perfect opening track to kick off the album.
After the intro, we get to the first verse where the main character is bedazzled by someone's work. The reason is that it could be anything; a book (which she's comparing to), a song, a poem, a drawing, a mural, et cetera. These colours are what caught the eye of the person who is looking at someone else's piece of work because what she's doing is receiving critical acclaim for his or her effort at doing so, but it also explains that the creator's negative feelings could get in the way of his or her portfolio and even the imagination of his or her own, leading to the pre-chorus of the song. ("What beautiful texture I see/It looks like a book I can read/That fetching chroma I’ve seen/Feels what it wants to be/Such radiant quality, yes/Creating a vivid imagination is a guess/To prove that your uneasy feelings are less/To your heart but more in your mind, yet.")
In the pre-chorus, the main character wonders if the creator needs a shade of this colour that will turn those negative emotions into positive ones. This is because a shade is a tint that can be part of the colour in a lighter or darker tone, however, she doesn't want the creator to think that those dark shades are holding him or her back. She continues forward about how the creator is going to show off his or her content for everyone in the world to see through because they all want to look at the creations that someone has done and the main character should know that the creator needs to have a good sense of artistry in all of his/her content. ("Isn’t that shade worth living for?/Expanding the image is what you’re heading for/Your curiosity is worth showing for/The people that wanted more.")
In the song's chorus, the word "such" is being repeated four times in the course of the track implying that the main character is giving praise for the creator's workpiece but also likes to work alongside that someone who needs help bursting those colours in a different world. She later says that no creation can't be done except the aid of someone who needs her. This is because she too wanted to show off her colours to the world through the content of her work. ("Such creative power you got/Such great imagery that means a lot/Such vibrant colours I see/Such inventiveness is all I need/With you, all-day/What huge artistry I crave/For the vibrant colours, I say/Because no invention can finish it this way/But you.")
In the second verse of the song, the main character continues praising someone else's work utilizing his/her creative passion. This also hints at the reference of mythological legends that she is obsessed with because it could be anybody that she is in love with in terms of texture and hue. ("What integrity I went and saw/From something that’s up to the core/Is it a piece of folklore/Of a legend that I adore?") Finally, she commends the creator's creative freedom because she can picture him/her being under the sunshine with a piece of work that is going to be finished; writing in this case. This is because writing is another example of bringing your creations to life and people often write stories and songs to coincide with their imaginations throughout. ("What marvellous passion I love/It has delicacy and it looks fun/Don’t you wish you’d be under the sun/With writing that’s ready to be done?")
Following the pre-chorus and chorus is the bridge where it makes a drastic move for the main character and the creator she's praising. The reason why is that the person's creative passion could lead him/her into an open door that follows to another place, therefore he/she has got to show off the colours to everyone who cannot emote and have trouble building their own imaginations in the world of Teknikolour. Eventually, the creator will gain recognition for his/her work because someone is reflecting a different colour that will not be turned down but leave the people wanting more behind his/her portfolio. ("Can’t you see the creative path inside/An open door that goes to the other side?/No matter how hard you try/You could shine under the spotlight/Such wonderous ability you’re longing for/With a colour you’ve never possessed before/Your positive shade will be hard to ignore/Because you’ll leave them wanting more.")
After a repeated chorus is the outro of the song where the main character gives a taste of what's to come on the album. As you can see, the person is showing off her colours because she's given a recommendation that the creator should do the same with her, due to its use of the direct address aimed at my target audience. In the final two lines, she takes the creator on an adventure through Teknikolour suggesting that there will be other songs to follow on this album, each with a different colour and subject matter through varied lyrical content and music production. ("I’m dreaming in colour/So won’t you do the same with the others?/Join me on a journey in technicolour/And remember, this one will relate to each other.")
Today, I have been writing down my next song Perils of Love, an R&B, trap and hip-hop track teaching women about how they can get through a relationship that's going to break down over time. The tempo is set at 140 BPM in a 4/4 bar measure while the key signature is set in D minor. A song set in a mysterious key with lyrics regarding warning signs of a romantic relationship, listeners will be able to hear this track and get the message about dealing with the consequences of loving someone in terms of lyrical content. The reason is that the majority of women and men have been through a relationship before and that they must figure out a positive solution to keep the romance going before it's too late.
In order to give this song to one of my record labels, I would have to promote it on my social media pages and make a preview of this track in the hopes that listeners will buy it and make use out of the lyrics and production about what will happen to their relationship in the future, for better or worse. This implies that the track gives it a subject matter about a cycle of a relationship, first starting out as a first date before getting close. During the relationship, a person who is in love with someone realizes that it is starting to go downhill due to some negative situations that can cause the partners to break up and end the affair. If that happens, that person will send himself/herself into a spiral of depression over the failed relationship. Women and men can relate to the song's message so that they will challenge themselves at building a healthy and positive relationship without getting a red flag.
Intro/chorus: Dm, Gm, A, Dm
Verse/pre-chorus: Dm, Am, Gm, Am7
Bridge: Gm, C, F, Bb, C, Gm7/9
Verse one:
Thought I was dumb from the start
Would've learned that love will fall apart
I was foolish with the games I'm forced to play
It was just another day
I know where it went
Before my heart broke a dent
How am I going to live
While staying with the one I'm in love with
Pre-chorus:
What is love when it's being destroyed
By the powers that be, like a repeated ploy
My heart will break, with such remorse
But being single isn't the best course
So I breathe slowly and carefully picked up
The remains of love, I'm not going to give up
And start it all again so let me repair
What we started within the preparation
Chorus:
When all the magic is gone
And think it's really over
I need another chance
To mend this wall between us
If you wish to let bygones be bygones
And leave me standing here
I'll be hanging on
In the perils of love
Verse two:
I don't find a problem with love at first sight
It's about whether I need to give it a try
Not every story has a happy ending
Where a knight rises and he's defending
Sometimes I don't feel comfortable with love
When it spirals out of control and it's all done
A failed hand at love ain't the answer
But starting over is the answer
[repeat pre-chorus]
[repeat chorus]
Bridge:
Ladies have seen many signs of a relationship
So if you're out there, here's a tip
Be careful who you've fallen
With the person who's balling
If it isn't love, it's not what you're looking for
Because your man is close to hitting the door
When he's doing you wrong, it shoots you like a gun
So you better step in the perils of love
[repeat chorus twice]
I came up with the idea of this song about exploring the red flags of a romantic relationship because every man and woman has been in an affair and the future outcome of it will either come out as positive or negative. The name Perils of Love suggests that when a man and woman are in love with each other, a relationship will start off in their honeymoon phase before it gets serious within the next few months, for good or bad. Because that the connection is important, it means that a male partner and a female partner must take on the challenges in a relationship and improve their healthy love life before it breaks down.
In verse one, we see that the main character is feeling guilty about her love life breaking apart. The reason why is her male partner is getting stuck with the lies and she isn't feeling happy with the recurring situation every single day. ("Thought I was dumb from the start/Would've learned that love will fall apart/I was foolish with the games I'm forced to play/It was just another day.") She goes on questioning how is she going to stay in a rocky romance between her partner, implying that she must find a quick fix in order to continue the relationship leading into the song's pre-chorus section. ("I know where it went/Before my heart broke a dent/How am I going to live/While staying with the one I'm in love with.")
In the pre-chorus, the girl in the song asks a question to the listener complimenting about what love will be like if it's an ongoing curse. This is because love is a feeling upon someone who believes in it, but during that time, he or she will start to notice that love can hurt, causing the heart of that special someone to tear apart in the aftermath of a relationship. She stated that her first option wasn't to end the relationship because even though she is feeling that kind of love, she is not going to carry on with her partner's attitude and breaking off the romance is out of the question. ("What is love when it's being destroyed/By the powers that be, like a repeated ploy/My heart will break, with such remorse/But being single isn't the best course.") Upon the last few lines, the girl would rather fix that rocky relationship with her partner, substituting a need to start over in a new life. This is because that everyone has a different outcome in terms of love life and would therefore have to continue from where the relationship left off in a positive way instead of focusing on the negative. ("So I breathe slowly and carefully picked up/The remains of love, I'm not going to give up/And start it all again so let me repair/What we started within the preparation.")
The song's chorus talks about repairing the relationship from where it left off, changing from the relationship starting over method. The reason for it is the girl is trying to fix things during her soon-to-be failed romance, declaring that her romance with her boyfriend shouldn't end there as she is given another chance to restore her love life. However, if she does decide to carry it on without fixing up what went wrong, the girl will get torn up and let the relationship finish in a negative outcome. ("When all the magic is gone/And think it's really over/I need another chance/To mend this wall between us/If you wish to let bygones be bygones/And leave me standing here/I'll be hanging on/In the perils of love.")
The second verse resumes from the first verse because the girl doesn't care about believing in love at first sight, but she wanted to give it a go before preparing a relationship. In addition to that, she also gives the contrast of love to a fairytale where the boyfriend is a knight in shining armour and she is a princess in a castle. ("I don't find a problem with love at first sight/It's about whether I need to give it a try/Not every story has a happy ending/Where a knight rises and he's defending.") She then comments about being unsure about giving a shot at a relationship because every romance starts off with two lovers falling in love with each other prior to the realization that it is in the midst of going off the rails. Before too long, she culminates into the fact that being single is the important option to begin with when a relationship has finished due to every love life that has a beginning and end between two partners following a desired amount of time they stayed together. ("Sometimes I don't feel comfortable with love/When it spirals out of control and it's all done/A failed hand at love ain't the answer/But starting over is the answer.")
Following the pre-chorus and chorus is the song's bridge that is in a third-person perspective because I am addressing to the listeners that they need to be careful about who they are in love with and what caused the relationship to falter if they do see a warning shot. Although it is a song aimed at women, it is also targeted at men who have gone through a similar phase meaning that if their love lifes are in serious danger, they need to face the red flags when their partners, male or female are ready to finish them. ("Ladies have seen many signs of a relationship/So if you're out there, here's a tip/Be careful who you've fallen/With the person who's balling.") If the relationship does indeed come to an end, it will not be the type of love life they're aiming for because not everybody has been dealing with a toxic relationship prior to a break up. The partners will then depart from the men and women if their romance is not taken care of and therefore, they will prepare themselves for the downfall of their relationship in order for them to either get it mended from where it started or let it end altogether. ("If it isn't love, it's not what you're looking for/Because your man is close to hitting the door/When he's doing you wrong, it shoots you like a gun/So you better step in the perils of love.")
Also in the pipeline today is the final song off my In Teknikolour album, Give Me Time (to Live My Life), a mid-tempo hip-hop song about somebody who's been sabotaging a person's personal space in order to get attention. The song's tempo is set at 105 BPM and its key signature is at E-flat minor.
A song that has strange and dark minor key in connection with its well-built hip-hop production, Give Me Time focuses on giving someone room so that he or she can enjoy their personal and professional lives without a fan raiding them both. Teenagers can get a kick to this song because its concept about spending alone time with oneself has a self-esteem influence due to somebody wanting a little more room to give for himself/herself so that it can leave it be along with the omittance of anyone who's annoying that person.
To publicize the track, I would hand the song to my record label and put it out on my social media, word of mouth, televisions, newspapers and magazines because I want my core fanbase to know that if anybody's been taking the mickey out of them, they need to go and do their own thing instead of getting in an exaggerating moment where they want their expanse alone and nobody else. Its hard-hitting hip-hop beats and lyrical content about someone needing some alone time will make teens understand how they need to be by themselves and live about their daily lives behind the scenes, especially if one of them is famous at something on and off the screen such as an actor, sportsperson, singer, author or politician.
Intro: Ebm, C#, B, G#m, Bb
Verse: Ebm, F#, G#m, B, C#
Chorus: Ebm, E, F#, B, G#m, Bb7
Intro:
Alright, ladies and gentlemen
Let me introduce you to
The next chapter of DJ DeDe
Forgive me, I just need some space
Verse one:
I keep receiving phone calls, dozen messages
From strangers I don't know, give it a rest
They followed me around the corner
Telling me I want you and I won't bore you
I'm not curious to hear about the dirty talk
Secondly, I don't have a clue why you feel flirty
Third of all, all you ever want is sex
Alternatively, it's better to write you a text
Alrighty, how am I going to need space
For myself, I want you to get out my face
I appreciate your time, but I got other plans
Don't let me have to raise my hand
And give you the finger, because that's what will happen
When you start backstabbing
On my personal life, I have so little time
To speak with you, thank you and goodnight
Chorus:
I don't need you disrupting my latitude
You need to expand your attitude
You'll never overwhelm me, give me time
To live my life, yeah
I don't want you to raid my expanse
You have to learn about proper romance
You won't take over me, give me time
To live my life, yeah
Verse two:
Let's set the record straight
I don't want my time with you, mate
I need to focus on school
Without losing your cool
If I made a music playlist
This song would be on a setlist, sadist
Young man, looking for a woman to stalk
You're not a kid writing someone on chalk
Okay, if you want to get in my gig, fine
I'm always going to fall in line
And if you want a signature from me
Let's hope you'd get a picture, see
I don't want to be surrounded with loonies
Who want to talk to me, don't be floozy
When I take you home, you crazy groupie
I'll ignore it, I need room, so shoot me
[repeat chorus]
Verse three:
Of all the things you did
It's my alienated privacy, thrilling
But I'm not into it
Even they're not into it
What? Are you trying to overtake me?
If you're gonna do that, make me
I like the personal things in life
Spent all decades trying to strive
And thrive in a musical world
I got some bars to spread the word
You raiding my invasion of privacy
Got me a high chance of anxiety
Once again, you better get out my way
Because it stays the same
With your arrogance and cockiness
Not to mention your wackiness
[repeat chorus till fade]
The concept of this song stemmed in my mind when I came across the subject matter of mental health and the importance of stalking a celebrity. Invading personal space is one of those topics because everyone is trying to spend their alone time without someone bugging them. Give Me Time proves that concept lyrically and musically due to people getting tired of somebody who's trying to annoy them, constantly getting aggravated to the fullest.
I wrote down all three verses from the first-person perspective because I get really angry when a person is trying to take the mickey out of me, or someone else who couldn't stand it. In addition to the verses, I also jotted down the chorus because I'm telling off someone who would leave me alone and let me carry on with my life. Judging from the title, I want somebody to clear off and it cannot raid my alone time because I'm used to chilling out on my own as well as friends.
At the start of the song is the intro where I introduce you to a start of a new era, gearing up for what's to come on In Teknikolour. The reason why I wrote this is I want to announce my core demographic because I'm starting a new chapter of my music portfolio where the next few songs are filled with varied lyrical content and music production, depending on how I'm feeling associating with the idea of In Teknikolour. Later, I made some sarcasm into the final line, proclaiming that I need room in the lead-up to the song's first verse. ("Alright, ladies and gentlemen/Let me introduce you to/The next chapter of DJ DeDe/Forgive me, I just need some space.")
In verse one, strangers are always on my mind constantly taking the mickey out of me by sending out fanmail, wanting to talk to me and asking me for a sexual intercourse, even though I don't know them. In the song's subject matter, it is about stranger danger when you're a celebrity because everyone has been dealing with those problems about somebody stalking that famous person and it is never okay for them to give more time to be alone. ("I keep receiving phone calls, dozen messages/From strangers I don't know, give it a rest/They followed me around the corner/Telling me I want you and I won't bore you/I'm not curious to hear about the dirty talk/Secondly, I don't have a clue why you feel flirty/Third of all, all you ever want is sex/Alternatively, it's better to write you a text.") Along the way, I keep explaining to them about invading my personal space because I am giving a warning shot to those people if they don't want to leave me be, at one point, flipping the bird. Not to mention, if I have little time to talk with them, I will do that later or not at all due to having other things on the brain that I should be doing. ("Alrighty, how am I going to need space/For myself, I want you to get out my face/I appreciate your time, but I got other plans/Don't let me have to raise my hand/And give you the finger, because that's what will happen/When you start backstabbing/On my personal life, I have so little time/To speak with you, thank you and goodnight.")
Following the first verse is the chorus because it goes on for the next two verses until it gets repeated prior to fading out. This implies that I'm telling these stalkers to give me space for my personal and professional lives because should they continue following me, they are going to increase my anxiety if I'm not being careful with stranger danger. Therefore, like the title, I need time to live my life and nothing more because if they're going to carry on, my anxiety levels will go through the roof so it's best to ignore them and walk away from the situation instead of reaching my boiling point. ("I don't need you disrupting my latitude/You need to expand your attitude/You'll never overwhelm me, give me time/To live my life, yeah/I don't want you to raid my expanse/You have to learn about proper romance/You won't take over me, give me time/To live my life, yeah.")
In verse two, this continues from the subject matter of stalking because I'm telling these strangers to leave me be and do other things without them getting more obsessive about me i.e. study at school. However, even though I warned them to back off, they still continued stalking me because if they were to look on a music playlist for the song I've written, it will have to be this one due to delving into the song's theme of stranger danger and is yet to be performed live on stage at my next concert. ("Let's set the record straight/I don't want my time with you, mate/I need to focus on school/Without losing your cool/If I made a music playlist/This song would be on a setlist, sadist/Young man, looking for a woman to stalk/You're not a kid writing someone on chalk.") Towards the end of the second verse, I am giving them some options so that they can cherish the moment when they see me next on stage or grab a copy of my next album. The reason why is I need to give the strangers some respect in terms of making a few choices for them because if I haven't got any options for them to get a hold of DJ DeDe, they will still follow me everywhere I go so a few choices need to be put in place so they can get out my sight. As for going home with a stranger, that too is out of bounds because I need some space from that too. ("Okay, if you want to get in my gig, fine/I'm always going to fall in line/And if you want a signature from me/Let's hope you'd get a picture, see/I don't want to be surrounded with loonies/Who want to talk to me, don't be floozy/When I take you home, you crazy groupie/I'll ignore it, I need room, so shoot me.")
In the third and final verse, it leads me to the point where I am getting annoyed because the strangers are still going after me and it's my duty to have a talk with them about invading my alone time and other peoples' personal room. ("Of all the things you did/It's my alienated privacy, thrilling/But I'm not into it/Even they're not into it.") In the middle of the verse, I am somewhat getting angry because I don't know when the stalking will finish, bringing up this point where I have been spending all my life making music without strangers messing me about until it leads up to now where they are trying to stress me out and reach my breaking point and these songs (including this one) prove that I have a few bars written for the people who want to hear my music content. ("What? Are you trying to overtake me?/If you're gonna do that, make me/I like the personal things in life/Spent all decades trying to strive/And thrive in a musical world/I got some bars to spread the word.") Finally, the idea of stalking a celebrity has gone one step too far, going as far as raising my stress levels. Because that I'm not into those strange citizens trying to do something that will damage my music career, I am further dismissing their personalities as being arrogant, cocky and wacky. The reason is because a lot of stalkers have different personalities of their own due to the fact that they can be crazily obsessive about a celebrity doing one thing that they love or they can mail out letters to that famous person in the hopes that they can see him or her someday. ("You raiding my invasion of privacy/Got me a high chance of anxiety/Once again, you better get out my way/Because it stays the same/With your arrogance and cockiness/Not to mention your wackiness.")
