What is the job occupation I've chosen in the technical aspect of a live concert?
I have chosen an audio engineer as my job role because my goal is to manage the sound levels in the music production as well as adjust them in the music equipment when I'm preparing for a live performance. This is important because I have been using Logic Pro X to do the sound engineering of the instruments and vocals without having to interfere with the sound frequencies in all of them. In addition to the mixing and mastering on Logic Pro, I have also had prior experience with sound engineering when I set up a keyboard and/or microphone with minimal support, plugging in the instrument that connects to the sound mixer before adjusting the volume level so that it can pick up the audio level on a separate input channel.
People such as Alan Parsons, Manny Marroquin, Eddie Kramer, Joe Barresi, Sylvia Massy, Andrew Dawson and Steve Albini have been working with numerous artists and bands because they need to mix and master the music production in their tracks as part of their music discography. Along with sorting out the mixing and mastering of the production, they will also do the sound-check on the instruments, vocals and backing tracks for them to set up an artist or band's live concert tour. This needs to be done due to their experience with sound engineering and music knowledge while working with those famous musicians; there will be some technical problems without mixing and mastering if the sound levels for their music portfolio and/or live performance are not checked out properly.
Audio engineers are linked to music producers because they can sort out the mixing and mastering qualities of the music production to keep the sound levels of the musical instruments and vocals stable, along with the opportunity of sorting out the sound levels with the music instruments and vocals before performing live on stage at a concert. Both music producing and sound engineering are my two strengths due to creating music in a specific genre of choice prior to editing the whole shebang, hinting at the musical instrument of choice and vocal production before getting a comprehensible sound quality out of it. On top of that, I have started out producing and engineering on a DAW program and a sound mixer with moderate support before gradually getting better at both of them individually, eventually mastering them in the final year of college.
Which skills do I need to obtain to be an audio engineer? Explain...
I will talk to other musicians about amplifying the music production of the song and/or the music equipment for a live performance.
Furthermore, if a musician talks about what I need to do to change up the sound level for music production or piece of music equipment, I will hear them out and follow his/her requirements.
I will take part in a group that will contribute to songs that I made or my other group members have made so that I can create a final mix of the song with them to put it in a setlist for a live show.
I will figure out the safety terms of an audio engineer by pointing out which hazards need to be averted when the live instruments and vocals are set up e.g. the cables are tangled up overpowering the instruments, the cables have water spilt on the floor, the cables can cause someone to trip over them, etc.
I will make plans for the live show and podcast episode following the song creations in the next few weeks, whether it's an original track or a cover version that someone else had originally performed. This is because I want to check the sound levels and see if they are okay before making that episode and starting up a live tour associated with it.
How am I going to get evidence of the skills I've done? Give me a few examples...
Example One - Video Format: I can record myself on video controlling the live music equipments and the mixing and mastering process of the songs in the volume respectively. This is because I want to capture myself on my phone (or someone else's phone/camera) laying down the basics of the sound level and make them feel stable enough to create a proper mix for my podcast and live show.
Example Two - Audio Format: I can use Anchor to examine the requirements for my audio engineering in the podcast and live concert. The reason why is I want to put out an episode of the Feminfinity podcast every Tuesday a week and explain about how I used my sound engineering skills for my music content and live gig, mixing and mastering them at home and at college. This will give my core demographic a chance to learn something more about audio engineering in the music industry and to keep them posted on the next episode of Feminfinity about how I'm going to create the best sound quality of the track.
Example Three - Teams Meetings: For each week in Metronome at the rehearsal rooms and the recording studio, Microsoft Teams will be required when I want to set up a group meeting with the rest of my team members. This is due to enhancing my communication skills and organising skills whenever I plan new music and discuss it with my group. I can also use Teams when people have got their similar ideas with communicating and organising their music content for a live show associated with the podcast.
Week One - 29/04/2022: First Meeting (Podcast Setup)
The first meeting of the Feminfinity podcast went really well. I have been interviewing with Millie Huthwaite, Lowri Davies, Faith Symes and Sharnay Whittaker about their favourite music genre, what social media platform they are using and how their similar music tastes will cater toward my core demographic. This is because these things will link up to the conceptualization of female empowerment as it is the main theme of Feminfinity.
Talking about the music for the Feminfinity podcast, I have chosen a pop and R&B tone with influences of hip-hop music, hearkening its nostalgic style from late 1990s to early 2000s. The girls liked that style of music because pop, R&B and hip-hop are my favourite music genres to produce while I'm under the DJ DeDe brand. They also gave a list of their female icons in the music industry along with a high chance of someone performing his/her latest track on stage during the podcast.
Moving on to script-writing, I have been writing down some questions to women that are going toward the abstraction of female empowerment. This is due to them wanting to speak out about their personal experiences in the music industry and discuss about how they can create their music portfolio based around female empowerment filled with original songs and cover versions. The girls liked the questions I've been jotting down in the podcast because they reflect the empowerment theme of Feminfinity.
In the multimedia side of things, I would like to do the creative design of this podcast by myself as well as sort out the lighting of the studio. This means that I have to change the lights into a feminine colour and get pictures of women that have different ethnicities to be placed in the projector as my background setting. I will also have to decorate the microphone due to changing things up a bit by adding in some flowers and plants around the desk mic. In addition, the jingle will have to be produced, written and edited by myself with a list of equipments needed for the set of the podcast and its main episode.
According to the girls, half and half of them have Instagram and TikTok. This is because those two social media platforms will give them an opportunity to advertise the Feminfinity podcast in their own time, benefiting everyone to check out this podcast, including the target demographic. Adding to it, I will also be using that podcast to advertise the gig that will be coinciding with Feminifinity because by the time the episode gets published on a station, the concert tour will be put on my social media pages, looking into the time, date and location for the forthcoming gig.
It would be my decision to put all four girls together in this podcast because it works better having to answer those questions simultaneously as a group rather than doing them individually. If I do those questions one at a time for each girl in the podcast, the duration of this episode will take forever to produce.
Finally, Daniel has set up some targets toward the next meetup in the podcast:
Think about the music I am going to broadcast on Feminfinity. The reason why is that it will be my choice to either make a playlist that contains my music portfolio, their music content or their recommendations. I will make a final decision in the next interview and decide if the girls agree or disagree with the request.
Look into the time and date about when the episode of this podcast is going to be recorded. My suggestions for the location will have to be in the recording studios at Metronome or in the Fly FM radio station at NTU. If I were to choose the latter, I will have to email the people at Fly FM first before setting up the recording process of the episode.
I need to start buying the things I need for the main episode of Feminfinity. These range from the female symbol to the flowery decorations of the desk microphone because they mirror the setting of the podcast and theme of female empowerment.
I want to make some clarifications about which equipment I will need. This is because I need to set up everything for the episode of the Feminfinity podcast, depending on the prices of these equipments. E.g. cameras, microphones, stage lights, projector, etc.

· Clarify what equipment will be needed for the podcast.
Week Two - 03/05/2022: Item Preparations for Feminfinity Podcast and Concert (Planning)
Lighting plan - For the lighting of the Feminfinity podcast and gig, I want to have a hot pink tint in the lighting design of the stage because the colour pink represents the theme of female empowerment of the titular podcast and concert. However, the lights won't change continuously for each song, nor the ability to flash at one point in the gig. This is because I want the lights to stay static and not let someone suffer from epileptic seizures if I added some flashes in there.
Stage projection - In its stage projection, I need the projector to serve as a backdrop for the Feminfinity podcast and gig. The reason why is I could add on the show's logo, a series of girls of different ethnicities and a name to a different segment featured in the episode.
Do I want to create and sell merch? - Yes, I will. I can produce a t-shirt with the podcast logo and some inspirational quotes from female people. Another thing I can do is create face masks for every female who wants to stay safe from the pandemic as well as sell mugs and hats associated with Feminfinity.
Special guests - I will have to look into getting some female people to answer some questions about being a woman on Feminfinity. No matter if they're inside or outside of college, I will answer a couple of questions at the featured guest on this episode of Feminfinity and share their thoughts about what female empowerment means to them and the music they like to listen to.
Costumes - The Feminfinity podcast and gig don't require fancy dress, but anything feminine and beautiful will do in the entirety of both the podcast and concert.
Stage props - In terms of props, I want to have plants and flowers spread around the desk mic alongside a sculpture of a female gender symbol. This is because I have to make it look like a female-centred talk show with the presenter answering questions on a flowery-themed microphone while also having the sculpture act as a stand for the aforementioned prop.
Posters - For the poster of the Feminfinity podcast gig, I need to give it a feminine feel because the recurring theme of female empowerment will help persuade my target audience into checking out the podcast and concert. For instance, the logo of the podcast can be featured in a concert poster, either A4 or A5, and it will be plastered across my social media pages and other forms of physical media as a music gig event in a specific live venue.
Week Three - 10/05/2022: Things I Need for Podcast and Tour (Marketing & Planning)
Flowers - I would have to purchase the pastel pink lilies from Sanita's Flowers because they will look great for decorating my desk mic rather than leaving it plain and original. These flowers will further impact the conceptualization of Feminfinity as a podcast and gig due to them building as a connection for opening up a new chapter in women's lifestyles in a positive way. https://www.sanitasflowers.co.uk/design-20159053/pastel-pink-lily-mix-alice.htm
Lighting - I would buy the hot pink lights that are made from copper wires on eBay because the hot pink colour will represent the feminine side of life in both my Feminfinity podcast and gig. Not everyone likes the pink colour, but the purpose of Feminfinity is the desired colour representing that theme due to considering the target audience that they need to showcase their feminine personalities. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185406227567?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201210111314%26meid%3Dfe03e693664f4e22b623ef4192a7d261%26pid%3D101195%26rk%3D7%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D361068766525%26itm%3D185406227567%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv9PairwiseWebMskuAspectsV202110NoVariantSeed&_trksid=p2047675.c101195.m1851&amdata=cksum%3A185406227567fe03e693664f4e22b623ef4192a7d261%7Cenc%3AAQAGAAABEIIp3bTCXFAKw6S9crk9CpCrrtOgadqFiC10NVPbN0936eprYVB4SXfDa52e1mbPLHJu07asU18P%252FsYtjoMxOrnmFujEyGs7njZh8Vni5KmMA%252BjDMBb%252FDNCM2pSCe6T5%252BgnYwN3xdZ6T2qiQ5WYtKbDdQX%252FFKkSiLSBOzwQyM5fNNu3iAXfL%252BFM62MnerKciummri3imKSqMCwkuJVFUoCwRGZjBMgOe9IcPYJ41LyJ70fcaFnzhe38oq0vG3%252F1wMQ2tP1jiGJvoHMW5lNAcAcpjdVp7lYAmTOFVfyp0Owz2su9fHjZjpZX6FzLFAFpQM%252FFugjB%252FYL6eL1IZfOJSO8nrhDCyyk1mNyK3b1PpG7WG%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2047675
Ornaments - I would purchase the female gender sculpture covered in stainless steel from Wayfair UK. The reason why I would buy it is I need it placed as a stand for the desk mic, therefore strengthening the theme of female empowerment in my podcast and concert together. Despite the high price, it will be useful for me to place it behind my desk mic. https://www.wayfair.co.uk/Canora-Grey--Female-Symbol-Stainless-Baily-Sculpture-V113529920-L1191-K~U002418819.html?refid=MX79165002198654-U002418819&device=c&ptid=4582764489264426&targetid=pla-4582764489264426&network=o&ireid=131602015&device=c&msclkid=2bf529b97a921edf9d484bc189a88fc9&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=WF.P.UK.B.Wayfair%20Brand%20Traffic-G9916617064&utm_term=4582764489264426&utm_content=All%20products%20-%20Wayfair%20Brand
Projection - I should think about getting a projector for the podcast and concert from Amazon because I need to put in the show's logo to remind the target audience what they're listening to, a series of girls' races and their ethnicities and finally, a name for each segment in the episode. Without those three things, my core demographic would be uninterested and forget what the podcast and gig are about. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ortizan-Projectors-Projector-Compatible-Including-Black/dp/B08DRFDD15/ref=asc_df_B08DRFDD15?tag=bingshoppinga-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80264450428906&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583863989560920&th=1

Week Four - 17/05/2022: Second Meeting (Gig Layout)
Today at Metronome, I have been hosting a gig meeting with bassist Ruth Hickton and drummer Jacob Warren. The reason why is because I want to set out a plan for the upcoming Feminfinity gig at the Golden Fleece next month and how we will rehearse these songs on a setlist before performing on stage. I have been interviewing Ruth Hickton and Jacob Warren about what they need to do at the Golden Fleece for the Feminfinity concert.
According to the plan of the gig, it will be in a triangle formation because Jacob thinks that the drum kit needs to be at the back of the stage whilst Ruth suggests that the bass guitar can be on one side and the keyboard needs to be placed on the other side alongside a microphone and mic stand. I don't want to bring in my keyboard due to having one set up on stage, but Jacob will carry his house drum kit to the gig and Ruth will bring in her bass guitar and bass amplifier. I need to make sure that the equipment will be placed in the venue, otherwise, we will not be allowed to play on the night.
When it comes to music, Jacob Warren and Ruth Hickton are regular contributors to two songs I've made for the Feminfinity gig including Reap What we Sow and Riches to Rags. Sam Bennett and Coryn Townsend will not be in the gig because they have other commitments to deal with on campus. Therefore, the setlist is in order:
Reap What We Sow
Sheeshkebab!
Riches to Rags
In the lighting layout, Jacob and Ruth figured that they need to have a spotlight on the three performers. The flashing lights will also be included due to building up hype for the audience. For the Feminfinity gig, I have chosen to use purple and pink tints for the stage because I need to keep up with the theme of female empowerment when I'm performing those three songs in order.
Jacob Warren thought of a plan for the stage lights: when I arrive on stage, a sole spotlight will shine on me for the next few minutes due to introducing myself before performing the three tracks in the setlist. When the first song begins, it will have swirls of purple, pink and white colours added in there through the majority of this gig.
If we want to build a marketing strategy for the gig, we would prefer to advertise it on social media. This implies that I want to create a poster and flyer for the Feminfinity gig and promote it on all social media platforms and various other forms of physical media. I already made a poster by myself, so it's worth printing it out in both poster and flyer formats respectively.
At last, the gig will take place at the Golden Fleece on Tuesday 14th June and before that, rehearsal sessions need to take place at Metronome after half-term with the first one starting on Tuesday 31st May for the next three consecutive weeks until the night of the tour. I will not sing and play the keyboard simultaneously, but I will come up with a decision in one of the rehearsal sessions if I should sing and play an instrument at once or not.
Furthermore, I will be emailing all the tracks so that the rehearsal sessions need to be put in place. Not to mention I will pick a time for them to perform at the Golden Fleece on the day of the gig, amongst a time that everyone will arrive at the venue. I will always check that the equipment needs to be at the Golden Fleece to perform all three songs in the concert setlist.
UPDATE:
I mentioned that Jacob, Ruth and I will be performing at The Golden Fleece on Tuesday 14th June in the gig meeting. However, the timetable stated that we should be performing at The Angel on the following day, Wednesday 15th June. The reason why is I made a mistake with the time, date and venue location because according to the performance timetable, we were scheduled to perform at The Angel on a Wednesday rather than Tuesday because of other commitments across the campus and several venue bookings with solo artists and bands.
Despite a tiny flaw, the meeting went great and we laid out a stage plan for the Feminfinity gig.
The Stage Layout:
22/05/2022: Advertisements for Feminfinity (Marketing)
Today, I have been making more advertisements for my Feminfinity concert tour using Canva. The first poster promoting the live gig was created on that same program a few weeks ago alongside the DJ DeDe logo made under Canva.
The reason why I have been fabricating more advertisements for the Feminfinity tour is I want to satisfy my target audience by checking the concert out at a local music venue. There are some differences with each format while making those posters and flyers for the gig, but they'll look similar to what I've done due to following the theme of female empowerment in the podcast and concert simultaneously.
The first poster has been revised from what it is a few weeks ago, but here are the posters and flyers of the upcoming Feminfinity tour live at The Angel in Nottingham.
In addition to the posters and flyers promoting the Feminfinity gig, I have been making a Facebook event cover of the titular concert, also on Canva. Although the time has been confirmed for the early evening, it is not included in all of the posters and flyers of the Feminfinity tour, nor the Facebook event cover I created.
Apart from the minor defect, the advertisements helped me reinforce the concept of female empowerment in the podcast and concert, implying that the target audience will check it out on social media and attend this gig when the day has arrived (Wednesday 15th June). If I were to do the advertisements again, I must make sure to add in the time when the Feminfinity gig is going to start, otherwise, the core demographic would get confused about what time it will be.
Following the reveal of the venue, time and date of the Feminfinity gig as part of the final term dates, I want to hold the gig at another music venue in Nottingham so that I won't be restricted to only The Angel. When I saw an announcement about a first come first served performance slot at The Garrison in Mansfield, I jumped at the chance to perform three songs in the gig alongside songs I've previously done from In Teknikolour and VIRTUOSE.
Due to the news about booking artists and bands at The Garrison, I made some advertisements for my forthcoming Feminfinity gig at this location. This is because I want to promote that concert across the East Midlands and sing three tracks I've done for the Feminfinity tour, eventually hoping that I will advertise Feminfinity all over the UK and the rest of the world.
Like before, the Feminfinity advertisements at The Garrison will look different to each format in the posters and flyers made on Canva. However, they will be sharing some similarities due to following the theme of female empowerment and the grittiness of the venue's atmosphere, giving contrast to the BBC mystery drama series Peaky Blinders in which both the name (The Garrison) and the design are derived from.
Alongside the posters and flyers made for my performance slot at The Garrison, I have also created an event cover for that gig on Facebook. This is because I want to assure my target audience they want to see me perform these songs from Feminfinity live on stage at the Peaky Blinders-themed venue.
Like the Feminfinity event poster, the time hasn't been confirmed yet, hinting that my core demographic wouldn't know what time the concert will start. But despite this, I will still be advertising it on my social media pages due to convincing my fanbase that they want to check it out. I will have to add on the time of the venue as my area of improvement.
Week Five - 24/05/2022: Concert Preparations (Planning)
Today, I have been learning more about the admin/tech roles toward the music venue because I need to establish the Feminfinity concert with someone who will be working behind the scenes in the chosen technological occupation. Also, I want to hire somebody who is good at doing live concerts, no matter what job occupation it will be, alongside live performers who will be collaborating on two of the three songs I will perform.
Here are the additional admin/tech roles that people will do in a live music venue:
Roadies - A tour roadie is someone who will bring a music artist and/or band's music equipment while travelling with them in a form of transport e.g. car, bus, van, plane. This has to be done because people can go to a venue and take a performer and/or band's piece of equipment with them, ultimately setting these items up for the main event.
Ticket creators - Ticket creators are responsible for creating tickets for an artist or band's concert tour. The reason why is they want to make tickets for a gig that the artist or band is touring right now and that they want their target audience to convince that somebody is performing on stage at a venue. Ticket websites like Eventbrite, DICE, Gigantic, Ticketmaster and Viagogo utilize the ticket-making strategy for famous music celebrities and their own respective concerts because when somebody looks at a glimpse of the tour, he or she would pay for it, depending on the price if they're free or in a paid amount.
Stage technicians - A stage technician is a person who can work on the pieces of music equipment, making sure that each and every one of them will work properly before the concert tour begins. An example of this is the audio engineer because he or she can sort out the sound levels of the musical instruments and vocals for a music artist or band to perform prior to the start of the concert. A lighting designer meanwhile, will set out a plan for the lighting on stage because they need to sort out the stage lights for the artist and band to perform under, implying that the lighting plans will vary upon the performer's request prior to setting them up for the show.
Compares - Someone who will be talking to an artist or band about wowing the audience following an interval break. The reason why is in-between acts, there will be an interval leaving the compare to discuss with the performer or band about what he or she is going to do in the next act after the break, depending on its duration time if it's short lived or is lasting longer.
I have been making my ticket for the Feminfinity concert on Eventbrite because I want to aim it at my target audience of females who are aged over 15. The main strategy of this concert is to undergo a female-centred theme that will cater for the podcast's listeners, hinting that I will be performing three songs on the topic of female empowerment.
Coupled with its hot pink lights, Feminfinity logo, series of pictures with different women of each race and ethnicity and a decorated microphone on stage alongside live music performers, women will buy a ticket in the hopes that they will book a seat at The Angel for the Feminfinity tour. The tickets won't be going live until next Tuesday, implying there will be plenty of time to take a seat at The Angel before the gig starts in two weeks on Wednesday 15th June.
TO RECAP: How am I going to advertise my podcast and concert to my target audience?
In a span of a few weeks, I will be promoting my podcast on my website and social media pages from my Anchor.fm page. This is because I want to broadcast each episode of Feminfinity every Tuesday to discuss about what happened at Metronome in the development process of the music, along with setting up a gig at a live music venue by rehearsing the three songs that are stuck in the theme of female empowerment. Special guests that are featured on the episode will promote this podcast to their own target fanbase which will help me build a wider demographic in my audience.
Every episode features behind the scenes content about the music I have created because I have been making three songs collaboratively with other students who are good at playing a musical instrument like a bassist, guitarist, drummer, vocalist, brass player, etc. Furthermore, I will break down some details about what needs to be improved so that I can use that for the next rehearsal session onward. This will assure my core fanbase (females) to see what's going on behind closed doors towards the podcast and concert.
As of now, the latest episode of Feminfinity has an Eventbrite ticket link where my target demographic can purchase a ticket to see me on stage at The Angel on Wednesday 15th June.
Should the Feminfinity podcast and concert have stage presentation in there? Explain...
Yes it will because for starters, the visualization of the stage for both the Feminfinity podcast and gig will include a lot of hot pink lighting, ornaments scattered around the stage, the logo of Feminfinity and a slideshow of all the girls coming from different backgrounds in the community. This will give my target demographic an identity of what Feminfinity represents while staying under the subject matter of female empowerment.
For the main episode of the podcast, I can sit down with a special guest opposite me and ask a few questions about how women can communicate themselves emotionally through the knowledge of music. The reason why is I can answer one of the questions to that guest appearance about why females can redeem themselves by making their own female-centred playlist, eventually reflecting their personal lives as the episode goes on.
In the performance side of things, I wanted to set up a concert tour with the other students I've already collaborated with. This is because I have already made an event on Eventbrite announcing to my core demographic that I am hosting a concert at The Angel on Wednesday 15th June. During that time, I will make some preparations for the Feminfinity tour and set up some music equipments for the students to use, coupled with some adjustments to the sound mixer in all of the instruments and vocals required before the start of the show.
Will the podcast and concert meet my expectations toward the marketing strategy?
Yes, they would because this will be my first time doing this experience of hosting a podcast while coinciding with its concert tour. With the conceptualization of Feminfinity as a podcast and gig simultaneously, it will have an identity to relate to my target demographic of those who loved music but are struggling with life individually.
If all the episodes of Feminfinity get positive feedback from my core audience, I will eventually be doing more of these in the future. This is because I want to create music (songs with female empowerment themes or other topics) for girls to listen to along with the breakdown of the development process and how's it going when it gets to the middle of finishing them. The thought of Feminfinity's advertisement plan comes down to social media where I will be promoting them on all of my music pages at the same time, convincing my target audience to check them out and give them a listen when it has a new episode out.
POSTER MADE BY ARIANA MARRIN
27/05/2022: Flipping the Script (Podcast Content)
Yesterday, I have finished off a script for the episode of my female-themed music podcast Feminfinity. It took two weeks to get it done because I drafted it on paper that Friday before writing it down on the following day (Saturday) electronically. According to the itinerary plan, I have been breaking down the segments and I have wrote my own words down to associate with each topic in the episode e.g. piece of advice, what is Feminfinity, planning of the music portfolio, etc...
The Itinerary Plan
I will be recording an episode of Feminfinity after half-term at the Metronome recording studios, but I need some female special guests, jingle music, original music content associated with the creation of Feminfinity and live performance videos showcasing highlights of me, Ruth Hickton and Jacob Warren performing the three songs at The Angel to constitute with the idea and theme of the podcast. It is undecided about which female guest I'm going to interview and answer a couple of questions based on female empowerment because I need to look into a talented woman musician who can respond to the questions I've written based on that theme.
Tickets for the Feminfinity gig are on sale. Click on the Eventbrite event page to book a seat until Wednesday 15th June:
Week Six - 07/06/2022: Making an Episode of Feminfinity (Podcast Content)
Today, I have been recording an episode of Feminfinity at Confetti on Logic Pro. Featuring Faith Shaw as a special guest, I want to record my speaking parts first because I want to recite the script I've written for it before handing the questions over to a guest appearance.
I have been fumbling with words a couple of times during the recording process of the episode, but I managed to cut them out during the editing process after recording these speaking bits in the production. This is because I don't want to mess up with the pronunciations every so often when I read the script here. After the music marketing session ended, I continued to do some more editing at home on Logic Pro, mixing and mastering the sound qualities of the spoken pieces and music composition.
For technological evidence of the editing process, head over to the podcast's preparation and recording page:

Week Seven - 14/06/2022: Feminfinity Concert Agenda (Planning)
I will be going at The Angel tomorrow afternoon with Jacob Warren and Ruth Hickton at 3pm for a sound check, equipped with a drum kit, bass guitar, a microphone and backing tracks. Sound checks are important for my Feminfinity concert because we all need to practice three songs from the setlist and remember that the sound levels in the musical instruments and vocals are done properly. If they are unbalanced for a few reasons (e.g. if I can't hear myself sing, there is a problem with the bass guitar, the snare drum isn't picking up), I will speak to a sound engineer and talk to him and her about making some adjustments to the sound levels.
After the sound check, Ruth, Jacob and I will be in the main stage at 5pm performing the three songs from the setlist, implying that the drum kit, bass guitar and microphone will appear on stage while backing tracks are being played in the background. The reason why is we want to improve our stage presence, confidence and expressiveness for the next 45 minutes until the next supporting act. I don't want to feel down while singing because I have been rehearsing the songs emotionally in the last practice session and I made myself get uncomfortable with my vocal range, missing the high notes and losing track of the lyric writing.
As a way to transition from one song to the other, I need to discuss what the motive of Feminfinity is to my target audience. This is because I want to think about what music women will listen to mentally and physically and how it will reflect their daily lives into curating their music playlists to open up their thoughts and feelings throughout. Plus, songs that feature female empowerment and other subject matters will help women embrace their positive feelings whenever they listen to this kind of music on a CD or music streaming platform.
Next, I want the setlist to be a mixture of upbeat and ballad songs on the Feminfinity tour because I will start out with the trap banger Reap What We Sow and an angsty hip-hop tune Sheeshkebab before ending with the insecurity-themed pop ballad Riches to Rags. The reason for this is I want to begin with those upbeat club songs that people would want to dance to and then finish with a ballad that will act as the gig's climax and encore, shifting the vibe of the set to keep the audience's attention. All three songs fit in the female empowerment category and they touch upon other topics rather than the former being on its own such as the flaws of beauty, heartbreak and stalking. If there were more songs created for the setlist to be performed in the gig, it will center towards love, dancing, coming-of-age, political and environmental issues, etc. but they will be added on the next time I do Feminfinity differently.
I will also be incorporating some music from the podcast itself because I want my target audience to be convinced about what Feminfinity is in terms of the intro, bed music, sting music and outro of the gig. Just like the podcast episode, the music will act as a transition to what song is coming up next and/or a talk about how women are feeling when they listen to music emotionally in a positive way. If I don't include my podcast music in the gig, my core demographic would turn away from the concert so I need to remember how to keep them happy by adding in some music pieces from the Feminfinity podcast.
Finally after Riches to Rags, I will be making some closing statements to the Feminfinity gig before moving on to the next supporting act of the venue. The reason why is I want to make an introduction to the next supporter of the venue who will be playing tonight, either a solo artist or a band. This will be served as a recommendation to my target fanbase about which supporting act or headliner is ready to perform next following my Feminfinity set. A lot of artists and bands have done it before and I think it would be a great idea to introduce the next act on stage after the Feminfinity gig is over.
