Playing the role of a Roman spectator at the Antički Dani in Zadar, Croatia (2015).

Hosting 6th Grade Arts Night as Calliope (muse of epic poetry), accompanied by Terpsichore, Athena, and Apollo (2024).

Χαιρε!

I am a 6th grade Humanities and English teacher from Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I came to teaching in an unconventional way, after a BA in Anthropology and an MA in Archaeology.

My first experience with an interactive Greek day happened in the 7th grade, when our English teacher organized a day of dramatic myth performances, creative project presentations, and a pumpkin-slinging catapult. It was an experience that stuck with me because it was engaging, fun, and absolutely memorable.

When I started teaching in 2021, I wanted to bring a similar experience to my students and hosted my first Greek Day for my 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students at the end of the 2020/2021 school year. It was a hit! The year after, I hosted a Saturnalia and a Renaissance Faire with my middle school students, and last year I hosted a Colonial Muster. Of course, there were some bumps along the way, but I so appreciate my colleagues supporting my crazy ideas and running with them.

I hope you find this resource helpful and you have fun hosting your own Greek Day!

Thank You!

This project would not have been possible without the help and guidance of Bob Holschuh Simmons, Nathalie Roy, Micheal Posey, and all the participants of the 2024 NEH Seminar, The Ancient Olympics and Daily Life in Ancient Olympia: A Hands-On History.
