Research for Impact is one of the core strategic themes in SU`s Vision 2020. How does your research relate to that?

My engagement with education, democracy and citizenship in the frame of African philosophy cultivates intellectual opportunities to rethink educational practices in universities in southern Africa.

Please give us your impression of the role that research and innovation can play in the betterment of society?

The cultivation of democratic citizenship education within our higher education institutions can expand acts of deliberative inquiry, agreement, and dissonance so necessary for higher education’s sustainability.

What would you regard as the most important aspects to consider to effectively support researchers?

Recognition that research is valued by the institution.

What do you enjoy most about your job and what are the aspects that you find challenging?

To be in a position to expand my intellectual contribution in the field of African philosophy of education. Challenges should be treated as a motivation to extend research in one’s field of inquiry.

What is the biggest piece of advice that you would give early-career researchers?

Remain passionate about what you love most.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the way we work. What, from your point of view, is the most pertinent change and how will this affect your work in the future?

Research-teaching-learning should be treated as an intertwined educational practice of relevance to African society, particularly if such seminal works can counteract injustice, inequality, and inhumanity.

What do you do for fun (apart from research!)

Doing artisanry, in particular renovating houses.
