The Tennessee State Library & Archives is a great resource for educators and students seeking primary sources for use in classroom instruction. With extensive holdings in Tennessee, Southern, and regional history, the Library & Archives is also the official repository for the permanent records of the State of Tennessee. 

The Education Outreach team of the Library & Archives provides a variety of resources for educators. Professional development opportunities, classroom tools such as lesson activities and DocsBoxes, digital breakouts, A Student History of Tennessee and more is available on our website.

During the 2022-2023 school year, the Tennessee State Library & Archives invites Tennessee teachers to attend a workshop exploring Tennesseans who have had an impact on our state's history. From September 2022- June 2023, we'll travel the state offering this workshop series to educators at locations statewide.

Focusing on the use of primary sources found in the collection of the Library & Archives, this workshop will examine Tennessee history topics from the 4th, 5th, 8th, and High School American History curriculum standards for social studies. The workshop will conclude with teacher participants working together to create a primary source activity for use in the classroom.

Teacher participants will receive lunch and six hours of professional development credit.
