ThinkAcheive Events

Orientation

SUMMER 2017

From what I remember of the orientation event, I along with some other incoming freshmen were placed in groups and had to make towers out of masking tape. This was a teamwork-building exercise. This was my first of many teamwork activities at UTC. I also learned about ThinkAchieve and how to be involved.

Self Guided Library Audio Tour

FALL 2017

This tour was a refresher for me as I had been on UTCs campus the summer before my senior year of high school as a governor's school attendee. I did this event with a friend of mine and learned a few things about the library I didn't know before like that we had a recording studio and 3-D printers .

Biology Seminar: Climate

FALL 2017

This seminar was interesting. I attended with another friend of mine. I think we might have been the only freshmen in the audience and the only ones not there for extra credit in biology. In this seminar, I learned about a perspective from a professional discussing how global warming was being exaggerated.

APA Citation Workshop

FALL 2017

This class was useful as I was having to cite in APA style for a few of my classes the only style I learned in high school was MLA and so APA was completely new to me. I can out of this workshop having a better knowledge of the citation style. I also felt more confident in being able to cite my work in APA.

ThinkAchieve Meet N' Greet

FALL 2017

I remember this being a really chill meeting of mostly freshmen like myself interested in ThinkAchieve. There were some snacks involved and we learned about the beyond the classroom challenge and how to become a ThinkAcheive graduate. I at this point knew I wanted to complete the beyond the classroom challenge but I did not know if I would have the flexibility in my schedule to continue in ThinkAchieve past my freshmen year.

UTC Theatre Presents: Silent Sky

FALL 2017

This was an amazing play with an amazing cast. I, as a theatre minor at the time, grew close to some of the members. I had to attend this program as a part of my Introduction to Theatre Class, but I am so glad I did as it is still one of my favorite productions of all time.

How to Edit Wikipedia

FALL 2017

This event intrigued me. I knew Wikipedia was an open source forum that anyone could edit. This event outlines how you could add your knowledge to a Wikipedia page. Wikipedia is also heavily monitored to make sure there are not people adding random bits of information to the site that do not belong.

Organize Your Life

FALL 2017

In the organize your life event, we learned about different programs and ideas to keep a more organized life. This event touched on school, personal, and work organization.

Multicultural Fair

FALL 2017

This was an absolute blast. It was hosted on Chamberlain field one evening. There were different booths around the Chamberlain Pavillian that showcased different cultures. There was also live music put on by a variety of diverse people. I remember getting a henna tattoo from one booth, my name written in Arabic from another, and taking a picture in a photobooth setup with my friends that attended with me. It is hands down one of best events that I attended during my college career.

UTC Theatre Presents: The Arsonists

FALL 2017

The Arsonists was an avant-garde play performed by the UTC Theatre Department. It followed two Arsonists that disguised themselves as door-to-door salemen. They convince a couple to let them spend the night in their attic. They fill the attic with barrels of flamable liquid and you can guess what happens next. I did not enough this one as much as Silent Sky but the set design was magnificant for this product and I admired it the whole time.

Diane Marek Lecture Series

FALL 2017

The specific exhibition that I attended in the Diane Marek Lecture Series was that of Sonnenzimmer, a husband and wife artist group, with their exhibition Café Avatar. This was really the first art exhibition I ever had attended. Their artist talk focused on digital avatars and what they do when not being used by a person. I remember being so intrigued by the idea that they hang out in a Café when not being used.

Chicago Style Citation Workshop

FALL 2017

This event was extremely useful because I needed to use Chicago Citation style in my art classes specifically art history classes that had.
