About CIPES

The Center for Research in Higher Education Policies (CIPES) is a partnership between the Universities of Aveiro and  University of Porto, and it was established in 1998. CIPES's mission has been to engage in scholarly research to advance critical thought and informed understanding about the vital policy issues confronting higher education in both the national and international arenas. CIPES has become a leading centre in Europe in its field.

The breadth and depth of the Centre's projects and publications encompass major higher education policy issues and reflect its researchers' wide diversity of academic backgrounds.

Since its inception, CIPES has considered the internationalisation of its activities as a central aspect of its development and is, nowadays, an active partner in various research projects in the field of higher education policies, in Europe and the world. CIPES has been actively participating in international research projects, and its researchers have participated in international conferences and published in relevant international journals in the field.

CIPES has been collaborating frequently with the major national stakeholders in higher education, contributing to strengthening policy debates about education and science. Important dissemination activities have also occurred in collaboration with major Portuguese foundations that are interested in educational matters.
