NON FUNGIBLE TOKEN (NFT)

NFT

A non-fungible token (NFT) is a unique digital identifier that cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided, that is recorded in a blockchain, and that is used to certify authenticity and ownership.

Major corporate players are jumping onto the NFT bandwagon include lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret, fast-food chain McDonald’s, beverage company Monster Energy, and retail giant Walmart, with Chevron starting the trend from the energy sector.

Not even the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) could resist the pull.

Recording artist Billie Eilish has also filed trademarks for her name and logo, following in the footsteps of artists as diverse as KISS, Dolly Parton, and Grandmaster Flash.

According to a recent analysis by Finbold, the US NFT trademark applications increased 421 times in 2021, a dramatic increase compared to only three in 2020.

The USPTO received 407 new trademark applications in December 2021, and the gain continued in January 2022, when the number reached 450. This translates into roughly 15 new filings per day.

It’s worth adding that NFTs have recently marked another record-breaking milestone, surpassing the number of 800,000 NFTs minted on the Cardano blockchain.

METAVERSE

METAVERSE

The metaverse is “an integrated network of 3D virtual worlds.” These worlds are accessed through a virtual reality headset, for users to navigate around. In futurism and science fiction, the metaverse is a hypothetical iteration of the Internet as a single, universal and immersive virtual world.

Metaverse can also be described as "a collective digital shared environment that is persistent and allows people to naturally interact through AR/VR technologies as well as transact leveraging digital currencies.” This environment allows humans to interact socially and economically as avatars in a digital space, which acts as a kind of metaphor for the real world, breaking down its physical and economic barriers. The metaverse is seen as the future of the Internet combined with Web 3.0.

There will multiple metaverse worlds and ability to move between them (using appropriate security and access) as private and public classified.

Gartner: “A collective virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical and digital reality. A Metaverse is persistent, providing enhanced immersive experiences”

Accenture: “A bridge between physical and digital identities, properties, and spaces. The Internet of place”

Microsoft: “A digital space inhabited by digital representations of people and things”

Wikipedia: “A network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection”

Up until now, we’ve interacted with computers via type or touch and a screen. The UI for spatial commuting will be completely different. Think eye-controlled interactions, body or hand gestures, and voice controls. Hardware will be invisible. The concept of fixed computers and staring at a flat screen will be looked back at by our ancestors as absurd.” - Forbes
