Does the software actually remove the noise without degrading the image.

A number of years ago I was given a laptop by an old friend who could no longer use his gadgets, including his cameras because of a Stroke and a heart attack. He had various bits of software installed on the laptop, most were all prescription based as he liked to "keep up to date" as he put it. A lot of the software was to do with image editing which I prefered to use the camera manufacturers raw editors or various free tools from around the internet.
There was one piece that peaked my interest and that was "Neat Image", it was version 7.6 for the 64 bit release of Windows. The last time I checked it was was up to version 9.2 and as I didn't use it much I never did bother upgrading, if you want to check it out their website is here "Neat Image".
I did check out the software on the laptop though and I was impressed with the way it did indeed remove the noise from the photographs without doing any drastic changes to the image itself.
I took a shot of the back of a chair my great grandchildren used as it was full of sharp imagery and very colourful. I resized it for sending via eMail and then used "Neat Image" to remove any noise. The other piece of noise removal software was "Noise Ninja 2" but I just couldn't get used to it for some reason.
The image was taken at 1/200th second at f5.8 with an ISO speed set to 3200 using my Olympus OM-D E-M10. The lens was the LUMIX G VARIO 14-140 f4.0-5.8 and set to 140mm, if it was protected from the rain I would be using it all the time instead of the Olympus 14-150mm as it feels like a "real" lens because of the extra weight, beefier lens hood and the way it looks, it's just my liking for lenses like this. They are both capable of taking great sharp photographs.
100% Crop to show actual noise which is hard to see in the picture itself at the size shown.
The image was taken at 1/200th second at f5.8 using an ISO speed of 3200 using my Olympus OM-D E-M10 as above but processed in "Neat Image" to remove the noise. The results of removing the noise are clearly visible in the 100% crop at the right.
100% Crop to show as above but with the noise removed using "Neat Image", pretty impressive if I say so myself.
