I've been using the DXO suite of software for quite a while but never bothered to upgrade to the latest all singing all dancing newer versions. My youngest camera is from 2016, my oldest is about a year older so I don't see the point of using software that didn't exist at the time my cameras came out. Yeah, I know they can improve all kinds of things in your image like dynamic range and offering you more control of the highlights, shadows and even micro contrast, I'd rather be out taking photographs than sat in front of a PC, had enough of that as a software engineer.

Of course a lot of these simulations are reliant on memory of how you remember the look of the medium you used to take the original photograph, there are only a few photographs from the past that actually stuck in my mind and only when I copied them using a digital slide and negative copier. It was a cheap to me gadget that served my purpose at the time and the first thing that made me sit back and go WOW was when I scanned a box of Kodachrome 25 slides. I hadn't bothered cleaning them or dusting them off. The slides were taken using a Canon Pelix I owned at the time, it was heading towards winter in Canada and I'd gone to the park with my kids, we had been there about 8 months and halloween was the next new thing that we would experience.
The middle of summer in our new home thousands of miles away from where we left family and friends.
The scan that made me realise how good Kodachrome was in the days of the analouge method of taking photographs.
Taking a breath of fresh cold air in the first experience of the cold Canadian winter.
Was she really stuck to the fence?
Taken from across the road where we lived on Martha Street, 1974, the bus was heading back up New Street Burlington, do you notice how there is a lack of snow on the roads? It was snowing at the time and a few snowflakes were present on the front of the lens.
