Through ILS, I have been lucky enough to meet so many significant people. My Freshman year I decided to volunteer as an usher for ILS events. This role entailed welcoming people at the door and leading guests of ILS' speaker events to their seats. While I initially signed up due to the promise of free pizza, I now happily volunteer at every event. Through this program, I have made connections to many amazing people, some of them being Connie Chung and Malcolm Gladwell.
Bahia Vista - At Bahia Vista Elementary School, I worked with Spanish speaking Kindergarten students to teach them English and STEM. A day involved supervising during recess, helping them learn the English alphabet during homework time, and walking the students through a basic science project. These projects ranged from making lava lamps with oil and Alka Seltzers to making bubble blasters with dish soap and paper towel rolls. From this experience, I enhanced my conversational Spanish and problem solving skills, gained experience working with kids, and created great memories with my students!
