Language teaching, training, & research.
I have been a Chinese language teacher for more than 17 years, with experience teaching online & in person classes with students as young as 5 and through adults, with 10 years teaching in US schools. I recently published a research-informed, teacher guidebook based on these years of experience, Comprehension-Based Chinese, Cheng & Tsui publisher.
I earned my PhD in Foreign Language & ESL Education from the University of Iowa in 2022. My Google Scholar profile shows my research and academic publications.
I am a language learner as well. I was raised in an English language environment and have advanced proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (ACTFL OPI, Advanced Mid; ACTFL WPT, Advanced High). I also have some proficiency in French, Thai, and have taken classes in Japanese, Spanish, and ASL (American Sign Language).
In addition to language-related interests, I enjoy rural life in Iowa where I garden and raise a small flock of chickens. They're often featured in Chinese language learner videos I share on YouTube!
