INFRAMOT

DEVELOPMENT OF INDUCTION MOTORS AUTOMATIC FAULT DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUES BASED ON INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY (INFRAMOT) (REF: GV/2012/020)

The main goal of this project was the development and validation of techniques based on infrared thermography that make the automatic diagnosis of different types of electromechanical failures in electric motors possible. The faults considered in the project were: bearing faults, cooling system problems, stator asymmetries and rotor damages.

The developed algorithms relied on the thermal profiles of the motor during the heating process under starting as well as on the infrared images resulting from the application of the technique. Innovative artificial intelligence and pattern recognition tools were applied to these images yielding very interesting conclusions regarding the detection of the mentioned failures.
