All shifts are 7pm to 7am.
All general medicine patients are now on one of 45 Medicine COVID teams (Note: there are no "teaching" or "ADS" teams). There will be patients who will not be covered by the Medicine COVID service (For example, you may see the following Primary Service Teams: "Silver" = HIV service, "Liver Teaching", "ADS-Tele cardiology," and "Cardiology Teaching.")
Each night float staff (MD/NP/PA) will be assigned 2-3 Medicine COVID Teams, which should correspond to a geographic unit. Assignments are available; each staff member will also be assigned a "Night Buddy" and/or "Escalation MD" to provide assistance-- these assignments can be found on the assignment spreadsheet. Please locate your assignment before the start of your shift.
Start of Your Shift (7pm)
Arrive on your geographic unit.
Populate your patient list with your assigned Medicine COVID teams (review these slides for directions). Each team can be found in the MSH Services list within the Medicine folder.
Assign yourself as the Front Line Provider (directions can be found here). You will also need to update your contact information (directions can be found here).
Print your patient list (slides here) and your handoff (slides here).
You will receive signout from the day teams. This may be done of in-person, verbally (over the phone), or written (in the Handoff tool). Be sure to look at the "To Do" section in the Handoff for any follow-up items for the night.
During your shift, you are expected to respond to any urgent issues for your assigned patients. Please write event notes for any notable events.
End of Your Shift (7am)
Provide verbal signout to the day teams for any sick patients or any urgent issues that require close follow up.
