1. Class observation
2. Development of a lesson plan according to the material and students' needs
3. Learning activities, including introductory activities, core activities, and closing activities
4. Conduct of evaluations
I teach for one hour or 60 minutes. Class organization activities have been designed in the lesson plan. The activities carried out are question and answer during the learning process, division of discussion groups and evaluation using quiz to determine the extent to which students understand the material taught.
I start off the class by greeting students and asking how they are doing. I do this to get the vibe going and make students feel comfortable. Then, I ask some easy questions to get the class started and get students thinking about the material to day. I would ask, "Have you ever been to a supermarket? Are the items there arranged by category?" and "What's the function it?" These questions get them thinking about in the real world applications of what they' are about to learn, like how supermarkets sort items by category. It's a way to help them relate the classification material to their everyday lives.
I use technology during my teaching demonstration to get students involved. For example, I show videos about vertebrates animals and introduce some of the endemic animals from Indonesia. This makes students more interested in the material and helps them learn better. In the group discussions I guide, I make sure they are paying attention or no. I also use digital games during evaluations to make class more fun. The students who win the games get gift and get appreciation.
In science classes, the challenge is using Thai as the language of instruction since only a few students can understand and speak English. During the observation, my cooperating teacher used mixed English and Thai language. When I developed the learning materials, I used simple vocabulary and pictures and video to help explain things. I chose these visuals to help students understand the subject matter, especially the introduction to vertebrate classification in Thai. To assess students understanding, I give evaluations using student worksheets that have real world problems and examples related to animal classification. The goal of these evaluations is to make sure that students can apply the material in their daily lives and learn more about biodiversity in Thailand. I am proud of how I was able to overcome this teaching challenge with the help of technology and the guidance of my cooperating teacher.
