Outcomes of Practicum
I am very proud and grateful to be in this program because when I was in high school, I had a dream of doing a student exchange program. This program has taught me a lot about education, like the learning system, methods, and technology-based academic support systems. It's also given me the chance to teach at the best and largest school in Udon Thani province. This is going to be such a valuable experience for me.
The challenge I faced in preparing for teaching was that I had to understand and read the material from their resource book because it all with Thailand language , so I had to translate it first so that I understood the topic. I was given very complex material on classification systems, naming systems (Binominal Nomenclature) and Identification (Dichotomous Key) for two teaching practices, which is a very short time. But it is not a problem, I pack the material easily and give examples in everyday life so that students can understand it easily. I was supposed to get 4 teaching practices, but every Monday there was no learning in class and in the third week at school for one week held a sports event, so I observ thats activities in accordance with the direction of cooperating teacher.
The pre-service teacher exchange program is about learning the education system and pedagogy, but it's also about learning about culture and history. We have participated in the Loy Krathong festival, which is held every November. At the festival, I wore traditional Thai clothes, and it was a lot of fun. I also learned a bunch of languages, like Thai, Filipino, and Chinese, because there are a lot of international programs at Udon Thani Rajabat University, which lets me make contacts with my friends from another country. Overall, I am really happy joined this program. Thailand is my dream country, and I am getting so much experience that I will always remember.
I am hopeful this program can be sustainable and implemented in all Southeast Asian countries, because thats would really help social networks and cooperation between campus institutions grow, opening up more opportunities for students who want to teach in Southeast Asia after graduating. The number of cooperating teachers at the destination university can be adjusted to match the number of participants during the sea teacher program making it easier to arrange activities, guide students, and evaluate them.
