The Digital Humanities Alliance for Research and Teaching Innovations (DHARTI) is an initiative focused on organizing and facilitating digital practices in arts and humanities scholarship in India, both within and beyond academic institutes. Initially known as the Digital Humanities Alliance of India (DHAI), the organization was inaugurated at the DHAI Conference held at IIM Indore in 2018, organized jointly by IIT Indore and IIM Indore.
Mission
DHARTI aims to:
Nurture, mentor, and lead Digital Humanities (DH) projects across India.
Provide a platform, both online and offline, to showcase, discuss, validate, and build upon Humanities projects from India.
Develop research networks for Digital Humanities scholars from India.
Give global recognition to projects from India through international forums.
History
2018: DHARTI, formerly DHAI, held its inaugural conference at IIM Indore, organized jointly by IIM Indore and IIT Indore, with the theme "Contestations, Connections, and Collaborations." The conference saw participation from over 50 national and international delegates.
June 2, 2018: DHARTI was formally established during a town hall meeting at the inaugural DHAI Conference.
2019: The name DHARTI was formalized by the Executive Committee members.
Current: DHARTI is registered as a non-profit organization in India and is currently affiliated with IIT Indore, the institutional affiliation of the President, Professor Nirmala Menon.
Organizational Structure
The policies and decisions of DHARTI are governed by the Executive Board members, who must also be members of the Alliance. Important policy matters or legislation are discussed with the General Body. The agenda for the General Body Meeting (GBM) is circulated to all members before the meeting.
