In this project I had research 2 different examples of information in cybersecurity/security in the news using Google’s News Search website. I also took some cyber training and achieved a certification once completed.
This article is about Microsoft’s senior leaders being hacked by a state sponsored Russian group. They hacked their way into Microsoft’s system and had access to the senior leader’s email. The hackers were able to access a small percentage of the corporate emails, accounts belonging to other employees including the cybersecurity team and legal department. This attack started in late November 2023, the actor of this attack goes by the name of Midnight Blizzard, who is also known as Nobelium. This is not their first-time attacking Microsoft. Before this recent attack there was one in 2020. The initial way the hackers got in was by using a so called “Password spray attack.” Microsoft is still investigating the attack and trying to find better ways to avoid attacks like this.

This article is about how synthetic identity fraud is starting to become one of the fastest growing financial crimes in the U.S. With the usage of artificial intelligence and development of systems the financial crimes do not look like it will be slowing down any time soon. AI has made it so easy for cybercriminals to develop more believable scams and get away with what they are doing to people. To prevent this from happening we need better identity security that will not allow AI to manipulate security systems.

Another part of this module was to complete the CCBC Cybersecurity Training. Once completed, I received a certificate of my certification.
In the module I learned a lot about cybersecurity. I learned about different things I need to watch out for that I normally would not pay any attention to. I learned about the different security risks, scams, fraudulent activity, etc. Taking the cybersecurity training was a wonderful way to really learn and comprehend what i was listening to in the multiple videos. This module has different changed the way I look at technology and made me more cautious in a positive way.
