Padlet is a great tool that I love and have used in the past. Padlet can be used for personal purposes or it can be a collaborative tool as well. This tool is very effective because you can add endless information on the wall. You can organize it however you want, so it really has endless purposes. I have used this tool for ELA content as well as social studies. I really want to use this tool in my future classroom because of how easy it is to use, but it is so effective. This tool can be used for students to brainstorm information at the beginning of a topic, or they can use it to present information at the end.
Sutori is a program that I had never used or heard of before this class. This tool is set up like a timeline so the user can add their information to create a story. This tool is effective because it can be used for one small topic, or a teacher can outline a whole module or unit. I used this to define geography terms and I found it very easy to work with. I could have made one cohesive timeline, but I chose to create smaller sections that related with each other. In my future classroom I would really like to use this. I could create a story and share it with the class, but I also want my students to create their own for some assignments.
Infographics are a great way to summarize information and provide an overview of a topic. Infographics utilizes text and images and that is why I think they are so effective. If a poster was just text, then someone would probably skip right over it because it looks like so much. When there are images it grabs the attention of the viewer. Infographics also require higher-order thinking skills because the student is going through the design process when creating one. I imagine myself using a lot of infographics in my future classroom. This is a great way for students to show what they know through something other than a quiz or test, and they are still showing mastery of the material.
Marking the text is a strategy that requires the student to actively read the text. It also requires them to think critically about what they are reading. When marking the text there are multiple ways a student can go about it. In my experience I chose a color to highlight the main idea of each paragraph, and then I had another color that I used to highlight the supporting details for that main idea. This is so effective because it makes students slow down and take time to comprehend what they are reading. If I were to read the same article and not mark the text then I would read it a lot faster and not remember what I read. I plan to use this in my future classroom often. When I give students materials to read, I want them to get something out of it and not just read it because I told them to, and this strategy can help with that.
EdPuzzle is a wonderful tool to use. This tool allows you to take videos and pause to ask questions or add comments. I love this tool because it makes the student slow down and really think about what they are learning. Instead of a student just skipping through a video, they must stop at certain points to answer a question or read a comment made by the teacher. I had used this tool before this class and I really enjoyed it. Instead of feeling like I was assigned a video for busy work, I saw that there was a purpose to it. I really want to use this tool in my future classroom. I could assign videos for students to watch as an introduction to a unit or I could assign a video that would help them think deeper about a topic that was covered.
