National Museum of Natural Science

The night of the summer solstice, all the Smithsonian Museums are open until midnight! I decided to visit this one that evening since I figured that would be the emptiest it would be! If you have never been, then it is definitely worth a visit. Their new fossil exhibit is extensive and lots of fun. Note that the lines to enter are always waaay long on the weekends, so if you're planning a Saturday or Sunday visit get there at least 30 minutes before they open to make sure you don't spend (literally) hours in line.

Independence Day

Not what I expected. If you go into the city, explore the more obscure museums on this day. Unless you are ok with a long (3-4 hrs) commute home, don't stay for the fireworks. Farifax City has enjoyable fireworks, and traffic is not a problem.
