Biking and whatnot

One of my biggest concerns when I was looking at this REU was how to get around. I didn't want to just have to depend on someone else having a car or the bus system, especially when Virginia is such a cool place to be outside. I wanted a bike. However, getting a bike from Texas to Virginia and back wasn't an option. As it turns out, it didn't have to be. George Mason has a great bike share program. They will let you check out a bicycle for a day period at a time for free. They also give you a helmet and a u-lock with its keys. You check out the bike from the RAC, and so long as you return it unscathed by the end of the next day, there isn't a charge. Here is a link to their web page in case for the last updates on the Patriot Bike Share program: https://transportation.gmu.edu/bicycle-programs/check-out/ . The Washington Metro system allows bikes on the metro, so taking a bike to DC and exploring that way is definitely an option!

We had fun at the local Fairfax farmers market! It is located near the Fairfax Courthouse well within walking distance from campus. Lots of lovely fruits, veggies, and other local goods. It makes for a fun morning outing!
