After graduating Circleville Bible College in 1979, I pastored churches is Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania, earning my Masters Degree through Distance Learning from Trinity University in Chicago. I have been married 38 years to Kimberly (Castle) and have two sons, two daughter-in-laws and five grandchildren. As a young family of four we moved to Bradford in 1991 to serve the Sawyer Evangelical Church for 24 years. Six years of that time I served as Conference Superintendent in the Eastern Conference of the Evangelical Church. Currently, in retirement, I work as a part-time teachers Aide at the Bradford Area High School in Gas and Oil Technologies. I serve on the Bradford Sanitary Authority Board, as well as, the Bradford Creative and Performing Arts Center Board. I have served on the Destinations Board since the Fall of 2020.
I was born and raised in a Catholic family in the Erie, Pennsylvania area and graduated in 1975. I enlisted in the US Air Force in 1975 and retired from the US Air Force after 20 years in 1995. In 1996, I obtained the position of camp ranger at Camp Resting Waters Girl Scout camp near Kane, Pa. I performed that job until the camp closed in 2017. I am currently an Assistant Manager at Keystone Fireworks in Bradford, Pa., where I reside with my wife, soulmate, best friend and accountability partner of 19 years, Donna.
I initially accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and began a personal relationship with Him at the dining hall on Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1976. But it wasn’t until I met my wife Donna that I completely surrendered my life to the Lord in the 2002-time frame. It was at this time in my life that I realized that my walk with my Lord wasn’t about religion but relationship, and that He did not want me to seek His hands but His face. At that point in my life, going through some trials placed before me, the Lord gave me His second greatest gift other than my salvation through His Son Jesus, and that is my soulmate Donna, who I had recently met in a Christian Singles ministry that she had started and was hosting. After joining this singles ministry, I found that I was shortly thereafter helping to lead the group studies and devotions. It was soon afterwards that the Lord blessed us with each other. But He first brought us together for ministry (giving us the same heart for other singles and those hurting) and then as a Christian couple. Later that year, we were married by the pastor of that church where we hosted the Singles’ ministry.
Donna first came to the Destination’s Ministry soon after it began, being led by the Spirit to walk through their doors. As a staff accountant, Donna worked helping manage the finances and books for Destinations and was a member of the Board there. Her involvement with the ministry often led to my involvement (at times) in the ministry as well, but not to the capacity of where she was, or where I am presently. As Donna was coming off the Board at Destinations and they were hiring a new Executive Director (and needing to replace some exiting board members), Donna had asked me to consider coming on as a new Board member. I prayerfully considered this and accepted, joining the Board at the first meeting in January 2019. At that first meeting, I was elected as the new Chairman of the Board for this ministry.
I, as well as Donna, have led many Christian small groups, as well as the Singles Ministry for numerous years. We presently attend the First United Methodist Church in Bradford, and for almost 16 years have facilitated a 14-week DivorceCare ministry twice a year at that church. We have been on numerous committees and held various positions within that church as well as other Christian activities in the area. We are both recent active members of the SOWERS ministry. I love being a part of God’s ministry Destinations Community Outreach Center, as it is an active way to demonstrate the love of Jesus in a tangible way to all those in the Bradford and surrounding communities. Destinations has and continues to act as a hub for area churches and organizations to coordinate area efforts to help those in need, and miracles flow from and because of that ministry daily. The Bible correctly identifies the “Church” not as the buildings we worship in, but the people that God has created. As such, the Destinations ministry reaches far beyond any religion, church, or local building, and provides a tangible course to meet the needs of those who are in need and hurting, sharing the love of Jesus at the same time.
The staff and Board members at Destinations have gone through a thorough screening process and all have a heart and agape love for their fellow human beings and are committed to giving all they have and all they are to meet the needs of those who come to Destinations for help. It is an honor, privilege, and a blessing to be a part of God’s ministry, Destinations Community Outreach Center, and to serve with such a professional, loving, and caring group of fellow ministry members. We never forget that this is God’s ministry - we are just His hands and feet to the world!
“34Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”
Matthew 25: 34 - 40 (New King James Version)
Born and raised in Bradford, PA, and having a heart to help others, I followed God’s leading to join the Board of Destinations-Bradford in November 2019 and took on the roles of bookkeeper and treasurer in 2020.
I am a current member of the merged congregations of the former Derrick City United Methodist Church and Hill Memorial United Methodist Church which merged in 1992. I currently serve on the Finance and Mission committees.
I earned an associate degree at Jamestown Business College and worked in medical insurance billing and insurance verification for many years. I then found my niche in a position in the Human Resource Department at W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company. While working at Case, I participated in and was a graduate of the Leadership McKean Class of 2017. I retired from Case as H.R. Manager in 2018.
Music has always been a huge part of my life, both vocally and instrumentally. Playing the flute, I participated in both junior and senior high school concert and marching bands. Occasionally, I still dust off my flute to play in church. I have also played in handbell choirs and dabble in playing the piano. I served on the Board of Directors of the Music Owls Boosters when our daughter was active in the high school band. Vocally, I sang in school and youth church choirs. I also sang in the adult choir at the Derrick City United Methodist Church and currently participate in the adult choir at Hill Memorial. I join in singing with community groups including Praise Team and Friends, Perfected Praise, All4ONE, and the Family Life Network’s Celebration Choir.
Faith in God, family, and friends are some of the most important things to me. I am a dog lover, enjoy reading, baking, sewing, and cross-stitching. I am married to husband, Ray, and we have two children and two granddaughters. We enjoy nature, hiking, and boating. I have visited Europe twice and have been to thirty-six of our fifty states in the United States, and I hope to visit as many of the rest of the states as possible in my retirement.
My home church is Evans Memorial UMC where I am currently serving as Lay Leader. I retired from BRMC, Foothills Pediatrician in May 2019, and am currently working part-time at The Learning Center in their after school program. I'm looking forward to being a part of the ministry that is offered through Destination-Bradford.
