About the Authors

Stacy Fuentes

Stacy holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of South Carolina (1990). She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Southern Wesleyan University (2008). Currently Stacy is a doctoral candidate at Gardner-Webb University.

Stacy has been teaching since 1998 and is certified in 9-12 Science. Stacy has been awarded several honors over the course of her career. She received the Golden Apple Award from WYFF TV (Greenville, SC) in 2002, Freshman Tiger Teacher of the Year in 2008, and Chester County Rock Star Teacher in 2018. She was also nominated for Southside High School Teacher of the Year in 2015 where she served as a valuable member of the science department for nine years.

Stacy is licensed in South Carolina and is currently part of the science department at Union County High School in Union, SC.

Stacy is interested in researching female leadership in education.

Mary Newton

Mary Newton holds a Bachelor of Arts from Lenoir-Rhyne University (1994). She is a National Board Certified Teacher. She earned her Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner-Webb University (2019). She is currently a doctoral candidate at Gardner-Webb University.

Certified in 9-12 English Language Arts, Mary has taught in various districts across NC and all levels of ELA from 9th to 12th grades. She currently teaches English I in Fuquay Varina, NC and writes high school ELA curriculum for her district.

Mary's research interest includes wise feedback as an intervention for students transitioning to high school.

Jennifer Reed

Jennifer Reed holds a Bachelor of Science from Mars Hill University (2002). She earned her Master of Arts in Secondary Math Education from Western Carolina University (2004). She has taught as an adjunct professor at Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College (2004-2005), Gaston College (2005-present), and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2015-present). She is also a full time high school math teacher in North Carolina with Gaston County Schools.

Jennifer is currently a doctoral candidate at Gardner-Webb University. Her research interest includes the impact technology can have on incorporating Professional Learning Communities at the collegiate level.
