Design2Align is the FIG specific for faculty redesigning a Mesa Distance Education (DE) course. In Design2Align, our DE faculty use the CVC Online Course Design Rubric and/or the Peralta Equity Rubric to redesign their courses to align while having the support and accountability from members of their FIG.
Create opportunities for Mesa Distance Education (DE) faculty to connect and learn from each other
Foster engagement in collaborative course redesign efforts
Increase familiarity and gather feedback on the CVC Online Course Design Rubric, and Peralta Equity Rubric
Collect examples of equitable and excellent online teaching from Mesa colleagues
Identify ways to continuously improve our online courses at Mesa
Focus should reflect the goals of Design2Align. Possible examples for group focus include:
Redesign of an online course to align to one rubric section of the CVC Online Course Design Rubric.
Redesign of an online course to align to the Peralta Equity Rubric and/or sections of the Peralta Equity Rubric.
The Design2Align Deliverables are:
Self-Assessment & Action Plan
Course Redesign
Peer Reviews
Mesa Share Out
The EquityEdit is a FIG that creates space for participants to collaborate with each other on equity-infused course redesign. The Faculty Inquiry Group (FIG) format will allow participants to share knowledge while exploring equity-minded teaching practices through collaboration and identify common issues of direct relevance to students' lives that faculty can integrate into their course.
Create opportunities for Mesa faculty to exchange knowledge in a small group focused on equity-minded teaching practices
Inspire equity-infused course redesign
Identify and collect data sources to analyze student success
Review equity frameworks and practices to share or integrate into your course
Increase awareness about Mesa’s Identity as a Hispanic Serving Institution
Increase awareness of Mesa’s resources regarding Black Lives Matter
Focus should reflect the goals of EquityEdit. Possible examples for group focus include:
Redesign of course to align to a culturally responsive teaching framework (see below)
Redesign of the selected course syllabus (liquid syllabus, transformative syllabus, or Syllabus Review Guide by the USC/CUE Center)
Redesign of course assessment & grading strategies to be more equitable by using a text reference such as Grading for Equity by Joe Feldman.
Teaching & Learning for Social Impact. Resources for (Re)designing Your Course
Culturally Responsive Teaching & The Brain by Zaretta Hammond & the Ready for Rigor Framework
Teaching Across Cultural Strengths by Alicia F. Chavez & Susan D. Longerbeam
Equity Minded Reflections (equity prompts that can be used when reviewing data)
