My Teaching Philosophy
“The mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains, the superior teacher demonstrates, the great teacher inspires”. William Arthur Ward
I am passionate teacher who loves teaching. I enjoy teaching and the satisfaction that comes with it seeing my students grow mentally, emotionally and socially from time to time.
I believe every individual is unique and can succeed provided there is right support. My role is to assist my students to be the best achievers by developing their abilities, unveiling their potential and preparing them to become lifelong learners. “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.” Mark van Doren
In today’s teaching and learning environment, we have diversified student community with variety of needs and purposes. Different students have different learning styles and preferences. As an educator, I have to know the preferences of my students and adjust my teaching accordingly.
The industry is looking for graduates who have skills in teamwork/collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving among others. To address these, I have adopted student centred active learning methods in my class which have been proven in the literature leading to better student attitude, improved student thinking and writing, improved retention of materials, and motivates student to further study and become lifelong learners. I implemented instructional methods that promotes student engagement (i.e. active learning and cooperative learning) that allow students to become active and engaged in the learning process and cooperate with each other. “Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.” Chinese proverb.
