On the way there we pulled over to assist South Yorkshire police with a casualty.
The casualty (who was riding an E scooter) was involved in a head on collision with a car, and had impacted the windscreen with their head causing a significant intrusion into the car
We began to manage the patient, stabilise any injuries and provide immediate care until the ambulance arrived, a full handover was given to Yorkshire ambulance service before the patient was taken straight to the Major trauma centre at Northern general hospital
We still managed to get to the award ceremony with time to spare for a mug of tea and some cake

On our way back from covering No bounds festival in Sheffield we were travelling back to base and were flagged down by someone trying to manage an unconscious 20yo female on the pavement while a group nearby were trying to tell them not to call for an ambulance
On arrival we took control and instructed them to call for an ambulance while we assessed the patient
We managed the patients airway, wrapped the patient up in a thermal blanket and applied oxygen
The ambulance arrived 15 minutes later

We assisted South Yorkshire police at a two car RTC, with one female casualty
Initial quote for an ambulance response was 3 hours, after assessment we were able to update the ambulance service and request the fire service for assistance with extrication

As we were returning to depot we came across a two car RTC on the roundabout at Horns bridge, with one vehicle blocking the outside lane
We pulled over and checked for injuries, and provided stand off until the lane was cleared again

Today we had a call from a 60yof who had fallen getting out of the shower, her husband and neighbours had tried to lift her but had no success
We arrived within 15 minutes of the call, provided a full assessment and lifted her into her easy chair
We then enjoyed a cuppa and a natter whilst completing our paperwork and final checks, before leaving

This morning we were called to a 70yo male who had fallen during the night, his carer had found him on the floor in the bedroom saying that he had been there for approximately 4 hours
The carer had been quoted 6 hours for an ambulance before calling us
We arrived on scene within 40 minutes, and assessed the patient for injury and other complications before lifting the patient into bed.
We advised the carer that the ambulance was still required due to the length of down time, but the patient is warm and comfortable back in bed

Fall in the street
As we were sat in our office sorting admin and watching the rain through the window, we noticed a commotion down in the street.
We popped round to investigate and noticed police trying to assist someone who had lost consciousness and fallen into the road,
We offered assistance, and assessed the patient for underlying illness and injuries
After we ascertained that there were no injuries and the patient was stable, the police cancelled the ambulance and drove the patient to hospital as a precaution

We were called out to assist a person whose elderly relative called them at work complaining of facial numbness.
111 was called and they advised making their way to hospital, the family member worked 30 minutes away
We arrived at the house 15 minutes prior to the family member getting there. On arrival we did a full assessment to rule out anything immediately life threatening, and as the patient was stable discussed the family taking them to hospital in their own car

Tonight we were called out to an 80yo who had fell on her garden at approximately 2100
We were at the patients side within 25mins of the call, On arrival we were met by the family who had just arrived and keeping her warm with extra coats and blankets
After identifying there were no injuries we used our lifting cushion to get her back to her feet then assisted her into the house to warm up
After completing a full assessment we stayed with her as she warmed up and left her at home with her family

Tonight we were called out by a care company to a couple who had both fallen in their home, the care company had called 999 already and were quoted a possible 10 hours until an ambulance was available
We arrived on scene in 25 minutes, and began assessing the patients
The husband was un injured and was lifted up with our lifting cushion and assisted back to bed with no need for an ambulance
Unfortunately his wife had suffered a big bump to the head and required further care until the ambulance arrived
We updated the ambulance service and stayed on scene until they arrived, we handed over to the crew and cleared the scene

Once we had ensured he was stable and all his obs were fine, we gave aftercare advice to the family and left the patient at home

Tonight’s callout came from the carers of a 98yo lady who had fallen in her kitchen at approximately 1300, her evening carer found her and called 999, the ambulance service stated an 8 hour response time
Luckily DCC adult social care had passed on my number to the care provider
We arrived 35 minutes after we were notified, on assessment there were no injuries or underlying issues so we used our lifting cushion to get her safely back to her feet and back into her chair
As the patient had been in the floor 6+ hours we didn’t cancel the ambulance, and we left the patient in the care of her carer until the ambulance arrives

Her daughter called us as soon as she heard her mum shout for help

We performed a full assessment and safely lifted the lady back into bed with our lifting cushion, we then completed our paperwork and reassessed before leaving them in peace

We safely moved her from the floor onto a padded stretcher and provided care until the ambulance service arrived
