DepEd Region 2 implements full-scale implementation of Catch-up Fridays
In a groundbreaking move towards educational reform, schools across DepED Region 2 have fully implemented the innovative Catch-up Fridays program starting February 2, 2024. The initiative aims to address learning gaps and enrich students' educational experiences by revising class schedules, incorporating integrated sessions, and emphasizing essential subjects.
Key Features of Catch-up Fridays Implementation:
Revised Class Programs:
Schools have restructured their class programs to accommodate the Catch-up Fridays initiative. The new schedule includes two sessions per day.
The morning session focuses on the National Reading Program (NRP), emphasizing both intervention and enhancement reading programs.
The afternoon session is dedicated to the integration of peace education, health education, and values education, conducted with the guidance of the Homeroom Guidance Program.
Themed Integrations:
To enhance engagement and provide a holistic learning experience, the integrated sessions follow thematic structures. Each quarter focuses on specific themes and subthemes, allowing students to explore various aspects of their education.
This thematic approach aims to make learning more interconnected, fostering a deeper understanding of the subjects and their relevance to students' lives.
National Reading Program (NRP):
Catch-up Fridays place a significant emphasis on the NRP, incorporating it into the morning sessions. This dual-pronged approach, addressing both intervention and enhancement reading programs, aims to boost literacy levels among students.
Showcasing Innovations:
Schools participating in the Catch-up Fridays program have seized the opportunity to showcase their innovations and effective practices in reading and numeracy activities.
The sharing of successful strategies and practices aims to create a collaborative environment, allowing schools to learn from one another and implement effective teaching methodologies.
The Catch-up Fridays initiative is set to continue throughout the school year, providing students with consistent opportunities for additional learning and enrichment. The implementation of this program signifies a commitment from DepED Region 2 to prioritize the educational well-being of students and ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to learning.
