LOOK: February 2, 2024 started the full implementation of Catch-Up Fridays.
Project LUMINOUS (Literacy Understanding and Mastery in Numbers - an Orderly Unified System) is a comprehensive educational initiative designed to address the imperative goals outlined in the MATATAG Agenda for Literacy and Numeracy. The urgent call of DepED Region 02 for MATATAG Agenda, championed by the Regional Director, Dr. Benjamin D. Paragas, PhD, CESO III, and Assistant Regional Director, Florante E. Vergara, underscores the significance of literacy and numeracy in shaping the educational landscape and fostering holistic development.
Alignment with National Programs:
Project LUMINOUS is intricately aligned with two crucial national programs – the National Reading Program (NRP) and the National Mathematics Program (NMP). Both programs are foundational pillars in enhancing the quality of education across all grade levels.
National Reading Program (NRP):
The NRP serves as a cornerstone for literacy development, targeting Key Stages 1 to 3. Encompassing both core and supplemental reading components, the program is embedded in the Literacy, Language, and Text curriculum. Its dual-tiered structure aims to fortify the foundations of reading skills and provide targeted support for enhancement, intervention, and remediation.
By harmonizing various reading programs within the school, Project LUMINOUS seeks to ensure a seamless and integrated approach to literacy development. Its alignment with NRP reflects a commitment to meet the literacy standards outlined in the core curriculum.
National Mathematics Program (NMP):
The NMP, focused on numeracy and mathematics learning, is another pivotal initiative underpinning Project LUMINOUS. The program's objectives include fostering a shared understanding of numeracy and its connections with real-world mathematics, enhancing system-wide capacity to implement key principles in developing numeracy and mathematics skills, and improving data availability for progress and achievement.
Project LUMINOUS embraces the principles of NMP to drive collaborative efforts in promoting better numeracy across all grade levels. By aligning with the NMP, the program aims to strengthen mathematical competencies, preparing students for the challenges of an increasingly quantitative world.
Upgrading Project BDP - Brigadahan at Damayan sa Pagbasa:
Project LUMINOUS also builds upon the foundation laid by Project BDP, specifically the "Brigadahan at Damayan sa Pagbasa" component. This upgrade reflects a commitment to continuous improvement, incorporating lessons learned and adapting to evolving educational needs.
Sustainability and Timeliness:
Project LUMINOUS is designed as built in program to Catch-Up Fridays and the End of School Year Activities with sustained implementation throughout the regular academic year. This sustainability ensures a consistent and impactful intervention, allowing for continuous monitoring, assessment, and improvement.
Realizing the mission and vision, Project LUMINOUS is positioned as a dynamic response to the MATATAG Agenda, reflecting the commitment of educational leaders to nurture literacy and numeracy as foundational elements in the holistic development of students within the region. Through alignment with national programs, enhancement of existing projects, and a focus on sustainability, Project LUMINOUS aspires to illuminate the educational path for learners, empowering them with the essential skills for a successful future.
