The Department of Chemistry, established in 1968, was the first to offer postgraduate courses in Chemical Sciences to students from the Saurashtra region. The department has a long legacy of veterans, beginning with Prof. K. A. Thakar. Since 1982, this Department has had the honour to offer Analytical Chemistry as a special branch throughout the Western Region. The Department is one of the University's premier departments, with over 235 Ph.Ds and over 500 research papers published in journals of well-repute. This is reflected in the cumulative citations of about 3000 over the last five years, as well as the cumulative H-index of 53.
