CONSULTING AND DIAGNOSTIC WORK

  Since its foundation, the Department of Pathological Anatomy has traditionally been engaged in raising the level of professional training of specialists in pathological anatomy in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine, providing qualified consulting and diagnostic assistance to medical institutions of various levels and departmental subordination. The staff of the Department of Pathological Anatomy performs diagnostic work in the Pathology Department with Morphological Laboratory of the University Clinic of the Bogomolets National Medical University.

    About 500 autopsies of various levels of complexity are performed annually at all clinical sites of the department. The pathology department of the Kyiv City Clinical Oncology Center examines about 100,000 histological specimens (more than 20,000 patients) per year. About 8,000 patients from other hospitals in Ukraine annually seek consultative care, and their number is growing from year to year. The department was the first in Ukraine to introduce an immunohistochemical method for practical use, which has become widespread and allows a doctor to increase the ability to determine the origin of the tumor, predict the clinical course of the disease, and predict the response to treatment. The department uses more than 130 antibodies for immunohistochemical research. The following university medical equipment and facilities are used at the department's clinical sites: a multi-tube microscope for research, Olympus microscopes, and an interactive complex. 

  The staff of the Department provides diagnostic assistance in Pediatric Pathology at the National Children's Specialized Hospital "Okhmatdyt" of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Every year, the department consults complex diagnostic pediatric cases from all over the country.

  The staff of the Department of Pathological Anatomy at clinical sites constantly conduct diagnostic autopsies, excision of surgical material, placentas, pathomorphological examination of surgical, biopsy material, placentas, immunohistochemical studies, provide advisory assistance to pathology departments, participate in pathological conferences of medical institutions, analysis of the quality of medical care at clinical sites, work of clinical expert commissions and working groups of the Department of Health of the Kyiv City State Administration and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
