John "Key" Denison was born July 14th, 1900, in or around Mayfield, Kentucky-the last of John and Martha's children to be born in Kentucky. Key loved to tell a story about moving to Texas in a covered wagon. But, Aunt Oma assured us that Grandma Martha, all the girls, and the babies travelled to Texas by railroad and got off in McKinney. Grandpa John and the boys came overland by horseback, and brought their animals.

Key was raised in the North Texas area of Collin & Denton counties. He married Mary Lee Jones in 1917. They were married 44 years and raised 6 children (Lillian Aline Denison Cooper, Johnny Lee Denison, Dorothy Marie Denison Goode, Delbert Ray Denison, Charles Wayne Denison, and Billy Gerald Denison).

He remarried Evelyn Jones in 1964, and they were together for the rest of his life. Key was elected County Commissioner in Hardeman County, and he served until his passing in 1979.
