Meet the Board

Del Mar PTA 23-24

President

Depeche Salcedo

I am in charge of creating events, organizing, and delegating how we run as a PTA to meet the needs of our kids and teachers. Any idea we have, I’m here to make it happen and support all of our amazing volunteers and families.

Why I am involved & what it means to be part of the PTA: I love being able to create wonderful experiences for my son and his amazing school. If being on the Pta means he has memories that last and experiences that he can hold onto long after the elementary experience has passed, then I’m truly grateful to be a part of that.

How I will contribute to our amazing team: As my second year as President, my contributions have been to establish events that future board and volunteers can use as a guideline to streamline future years and make things easier for parents and staff in our future generations.

Kid(s) at Del Mar & Age/Teacher:

Rocko, 7, Trujillo

Child's thoughts: I’m happy that you’re PTA President because you plan things for us and the whole school.

What I do outside of PTA:  I’m a certified personal trainer at Fitnessworks and a licensed cosmetologist-concierge, specializing in men’s hair & haircutting. I spend most of my time at the gym as I love helping people enjoy being healthy & strong. I also am the pickleball director at Avila Bay Club. I work hard, but play harder!

Hobbies/Special Interests:

I think in today’s day & age, I’ve turned all my hobbies into money makers. Now if only I could be paid to nap!

    Vice President

  Angelina McKee

This is my second year as VP. I assist the President in all events with the specific goal of fundraising in mind.

I love being creative with the and coming up with new fundraising ideas and activities for our school. It’s so meaningful to give back to our community.

I help with the initial and ongoing budget to try and keep track so all of the kid’s activities like field trips, camps, and assemblies at school are funded. Last year I organized two auctions, and I am currently working on one for our December “Winter Wonderland and Silent Night Auction” event. I try to volunteer at all the PTA-sponsored events, and help during the week when I can.

I have three kids - Charlie, a recent Del Mar Alum, Olivia who is in Roski’s 3rd grade class, and future Del Mar Dolphin, Henry, who is 1 1/2 years old.

My kids take pride that I’m on the PTA and making a difference at their school. We also work on most PTA projects and events together.  It encourages them to be involved in their school outside of class and teaches them appreciation. Feel free to ask me any questions about the PTA or why I love Del Mar!

Outside of the PTA, I work full time and have my hands full running around with three kiddos. My kids are in soccer, sailing, surfing, baseball, basketball, fencing, cross country, track, dance, golfing, Scouts, and 4H.

According to my kids I like to work, watch TV, vacation, go to PTA meetings, and socialize. I would like to think that I travel, camp, and make memories with my kids for fun. I also love to volunteer.

Aside from PTA, I am a proud Girl Scout Troop Leader and part of the regional Service Unit Team, where I organize Girl Scout events like flag placement for Memorial and Veterans Day and our annual participation in the Cayucos 4th of July Parade.

If you have any ideas on how to make our school more fun, reach out and let’s get started!

Secretary

Jenny Roberson

I keep a record of all topics discussed to PTA board and general meetings. I am also the teacher representative so I give my insight on event planning and PTA activities and how they affect teachers on campus. If a teacher would like the PTA to fund a special trip or project, I would bring that to the board for discussion and approval. If PTA is looking to plan events or assemblies, I can speak to how those events would conflict or complement what we have going on in our classrooms.

Why am I involved: I am a teacher at the school my children attend which means I am not able to be a room parent or volunteer to go on field trips or help out at most school events because I am already attending these events as a working teacher. Being involved in PTA is my way of being able to be involved on campus as a parent and not an employee of the district.

How I contribute to PTA: Coming from another district, and having had my children attend schools out of the area, I have seen how other school PTA organizations are involved on campus. I have ideas for activities and events that have been successful at other schools. I think that I am creative and organized so I am able to relay information between the teachers and staff on campus and the other board members in a productive way so we can plan fun events that everyone enjoys!

Kids at Del Mar: Owen (age 10)- Mr. Weitzen (4th grade)

Noah (age 5)- Mrs. Cameli (Kinder)

My kids’ thoughts on my PTA involvement: I honestly don’t think Noah even realizes! He loves getting to come to all the fun after school/weekend events that PTA organizes and can be found running wild while I try to help out with the running of the activity :) Owen likes that I am involved so he can spend time at his school with his friends.

Outside of PTA activities: When I am not working at school with PTA or as a teacher at Del Mar, my free time is pretty much consumed by traveling to visit friends or attending baseball tournaments with Owen’s travel baseball team, the Central Coast Phillies 10U team. We have family that live all over California and some out of state so we try to visit when we can.

Hobbies/Special Interests: I do like to craft and make stuff for Owen’s baseball team (helmet decals, t-shirts, etc.). I also like to do projects around my house- landscaping and building a patio cover are on the agenda for this winter and spring!

Historian

Kelly Marple

I am in charge of the end of year slideshow

Why I am involved & what it means to be part of the PTA: I am involved in the PTA because I went to a couple meetings and thought I could contribute and help in some way. I wasn't sure how much I could do, since I also have a full time job, but I'm starting small this year as the Historian and we'll see how things go as I learn more.

How I will contribute to our amazing team: I will be as helpful as I can and always give 110% to the things I commit to. I'll bring kindness and a smile to everything I do.

Kid(s) at Del Mar & Age/Teacher: Daughter, Penny, 1st Grade, Trujillo

Child's thoughts: She thinks it's great that I'm helping. She loves when I help in her classroom too!

What I do outside of PTA: I am a Realtor at Horizon Realty in Morro Bay. I work in sales, long term management and vacation rental management. This is my family's business and I've been an agent there since 2012. Contact me for any of your real estate needs :-)

Hobbies/Special Interests: I enjoy spending time with my family, doing makeup for fun and staying up too late watching movies. My husband and I both grew up in Los Osos and are lucky enough to be able to live here now. We have all of our parents and siblings living locally, which means our kids have all their grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins nearby to visit and play with regularly. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful support system as we navigate this beautiful life together.

Auditor

Jenn Tate

I make sure the monies paid out adhere to the budget and that funds are used appropriately.

Why?

I joined PTA to be involved and support enrichmentc activities at the school that the student's otherwise wouldn't get through state funded curriculum. I believe it is important for parents to be involved with their child's education.

How?

I encourage collaboration in our meetings to ensure that we provide an equitable experience for students. I also enjoy coordinating the FunRun.

What are those? How does one acquire the extra time to have those?

:)

Support PTA in membership drive by creating outreach material, updating the message board, and face-to-face connection with the community to spread the word about what the PTA does for Del Mar.

WHY: Elementary school is a small window of opportunity where we can provide children with enrichment activities to promote a lifelong love of learning, inspire future artists and scientists, and foster a deep sense of community.

HOW: Generate awareness and funds for PTA events, assemblies, and programs.

STUDENT: Brynn, 2nd grade, Mr Morgan. Brynn loves to lend a helping hand at PTA events! She likes knowing all the details and behind the scenes stuff about PTA. She’s definitely a future leader!

OUTSIDE PTA: I recently resigned from a decade of work in resource conservation/environmental consulting to start my own business. I love to spend time exploring all the Central Coast has to offer. I enjoy hiking, reading, thrifting, creating art, gardening, taking classes at FitnessWorks, drinking coffee, farmers markets, live music, and of course volunteering. Go Dolphins!!!
