What does the PTA do?

The PTA is a non-profit organization that coordinates events and raises money to make school even more enriching for the kids. These funds also prevent parents from being asked to pay out of pocket for most things.

When the PTA raises money what is it used for?

The money raised via membership dues and through fundraisers pays for things such as: STEAM activities (music, art, PE, etc), classroom and teacher supplies, awards, teacher recognition, prizes, field trips, assemblies, events such as family movie nights, carnivals, dances, celebration weeks, etc.

What does it mean to be a PTA member?

The PTA has two main groups. 1. The Board of elected leadership positions and chairpersons, this group coordinates the events, programs and fundraising and solicits volunteers to help as needed. There are still open Chairperson and committee positions. Reach out to Jenn Tate at president@delmarpta.org to learn more. 2. PTA members are those who simply pay the $10 dues which allows them to have input and a vote on how money is spent, who is on the Board, etc.

Who can be a PTA member?

Both parents and students are encouraged to sign-up for their own PTA membership. Your children have a voice and we want to hear it! We also welcome extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc), teachers, staff, and community members!

If I am a PTA member do I have to come to meetings?

No. Of course everyone is welcome and the more parents who participate the better! However, signing up to be a PTA member does not come with any other time or financial requirements.

When and where are PTA meetings?

The PTA meets regularly throughout the year, about monthly. Anyone is invited to attend unless it is a Board specific meeting. Meetings are held in person at the Del Mar Elementary School library at 6pm.

What are the benefits to being a PTA member?

1. Your membership dues fund the PTA and support the students and teachers. 2. You can vote for important school related initiatives and PTA Board members. 3. You get discounts, this year’s discounts are being finalized. (Previous years discounts were things like Legoland, Enterprise Rent a Car, California Academy of Sciences in SF, BOXED, and more).

I don’t have a lot of free time to give, how else can I support the PTA and school?

Participate in Fundraising Events
Donate. One time donation (at the time you pay your dues or throughout the year) and you can come back throughout the year to donate.
Amazon Smile use smile.amazon.com when making your every day Amazon purchases.
Box Tops: When you purchase anything with a ‘Box Top” logo you can snap a photo of your receipt in an app called Box Tops for Education.
Spirit Wear: Buy Del Mar logo’d t-shirts and sweatshirts to wear on Zoom Calls and at events.
Business Sponsorship: become a business sponsor or encourage a business you know to sponsor the school as a tax write off.
Selective Volunteering. Look for one-off volunteer opportunities that fit you and your schedule. Some you can do at home!

I have some time to give, how can I volunteer to support the school/PTA?

The PTA will host events throughout the year and will ask for volunteers on a case by case basis. We’ll do our best to let you know exactly what type of help is needed and the time commitment. We’ll have behind the scenes roles and also more visible volunteer options so you can pick the type of support that fits your personality and strengths.
