DEKODE Hypoglycaemia
Hypoglycaemia is a common but a potentially serious complication that requires prompt and standardised care. Despite updates to the Joint British Diabetes Societies (JDBS) guidelines in 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2023, research has shown significant variation in management of Hypoglycaemia between patients. Traditional audits have been unable to address this variation, demanding immediate attention.
Objectives:
To monitor real-time trends in Hypoglycaemia epidemiology, presentation and outcomes, enabling early detection of positive and negative trends in management.
To assess hospital-specific performance in adherence with Joint British Diabetes Society (JBDS) guidelines and identify opportunities to enhance management practices, improving patient outcomes.
Identify barriers and facilitators to implementing clinical guidelines, ensuring effective and consistent delivery of care.
How can you participate?
Gain Approvals: Obtain necessary approvals from your local clinical governance or ethics committee. The project team will provide support for this process.
Data Collection: Designate qualified healthcare professionals (medical students, junior doctors, or specialist nurses) to collect data on Hypoglycaemia cases and enter pseudonymised data into the secure DEKODE form.
Feedback and Improvement: Benefit from regular feedback on your hospital's performance, gain insights into improvement areas, and learn from successful interventions implemented by other participating hospitals.
