This free two-part workshop (Thursdays May 4 & 18, 6-7:30 pm, DES Library) will provide parents and families of children in grades 2-5 in the Union 38 School District with several major tips that will help you become effective writing partners. You will get tips on:-Ways to talk with children about their strengths and weaknesses-Suggestions and strategies including working with checklists and exemplars-Prompts and lists of various kinds of writing that can encourage them to write-How to create a writing journal with your child-Strategies to encourage children to write over the summerFREE child care provided by the DES PTA. She has extensive training at Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University in New York. She offers professional development on literacy to teachers across Western, Massachusetts. Her current writing projects include The Chloe Chronicles, a book for middle grade readers as well as a book for teachers on using text-based argument in the classroom.
