Plastic testing

Plastic Testing Procedure:

1) Weigh out a predetermined amount of plastic waste in grams using a scale and record mass.

2) Place a predetermined amount of plastic into shredder for one pass. Record mass.

3) Send shredded plastic through the shredder again. Record mass

4) Place twice-shredded plastic into mesh basket inside washing mechanism.

5) Add 100 mL of water per 10 grams of plastic into washing mechanism.

6) Dose 5 mL of dawn dish soap per 100 mL of water into washing mechanism.

7) Make sure to close off the washing mechanism before turning on the agitator.

8) Place agitator attached to drill into washing mechanism.

9) Submerge the agitator into the water/plastic/Dawn mixture.

10)  Turn on agitator for predetermined amount of time. Make sure the agitator is secure.

11)  Once the mixture has been mixed for the predetermined about of time, remove agitator from washing mechanism.

12)  Drain the water from the washing mechanism by removing the plug from the washer.

13)  Once water is drained, remove the mesh basket that the plastic is sitting in from the washer.

14)  Use a clean beaker big enough to fit washed plastic, set it on the scale, and zero out the mass.

15)  Add cleaned plastic into clean beaker and weigh and record mass.

16)  Repeat for 3 trials. Record and compare data for all 3 trials.
