Decolonizing Professional Learning

Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador

St. John's, NL

August 16 - 18, 2022

We respectfully acknowledge the territory in which we gather as the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk, and the island of Newfoundland as the ancestral homelands of the Mi’kmaq and Beothuk. We would also like to recognize the Inuit of Nunatsiavut and NunatuKavut and the Innu of Nitassinan, and their ancestors, as the original people of Labrador. We strive for respectful relationships with all the peoples of this province as we search for collective healing and true reconciliation and honor this beautiful land together.

About the Event

Through this event, we seek to recognize, document, and expand the work of education equity networks striving to decolonize professional learning (PL). We strive to build a community of researchers committed to learning with and from Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour (IBPOC) researchers and practitioners to generate and mobilize knowledge and practice regarding equity-oriented educational change. At this gathering, researchers from across Canada will discuss how our programs of research welcome and work with equity-seeking groups to develop relational pedagogies and accountability. Ultimately, our goal is to find synergies between regionally based programs of research and to create a national Education Equity Network that will enable members to leverage one another’s research, policy, and pedagogical contributions to effect change to decolonize professional learning practices and policies in ways that empower educators and the IBPOC communities we serve.
